Let me present to you some history. Balázs & Csaba levels from 1997, never made public before.

Ancient Internals for Elasto Mania

To get some prehistorical Across experience, we created the Ancient LGR for the levels. As you'll notice, this is not an average LGR. If you have ever played Slippery Slope, On Top or The Turnaround in Across 1.0, you know that those levels had different ground and sky textures, not to mention the flower itself. However, these levels had no Food or Killer objects.

This is how Across 1.0 looks like:

With the help of Elasto Mania Team, you are now privileged to see, how Across' never-before-seen graphical elements looked like before its initial release, technically, how Across most likely looked like in the Beta phase.

Ancient LGR (old objects)
Ancient LGR (default objects)


Due to the differences between Across and Elma, there are some limitations in the lgr.
- The maximum supported resolution is by the LGRs is

- Across has fixed sky texture, Elma applied them tiled, so it was impossible to perfectly replicate it, nevertheless we tried to provide the best experience possible

sunl helped me with the levels, the info is already shared
maybe he can giev more detailed info if you want. i am also aware how they worked, but sunl has more insider infos on tech

Very nice, Schumi! At least those new levels (Terrain Trip, Abstract Ride, Platform Stunts, Thorny Route and Declivitous) are very interesting! Got the same feeling like playing Across internals 22 years ago :)

I was feeling just that after seeing TM's rec on recszamppe :(

Some parts of that lev have those unique interal-like qualities that designers just do not design these days. It just makes me want to know what styles are possible at every part and hoyl it from midnight to the dawn.

Totally agree.

The most fantastic thing I can imagine is to find the development versions of all across and elasto mania levels. These levels we shared were made between across 1.0 and 1.2, so the very first ones are staying in mist...
I gonna share here a list soon about the last modification date of across levels. This will give a good insight of the development sequence.

During lev selection process he probably thought it was too similar to Headbanger, and chose Headbanger because it was more exciting.
My fake plants died because I did not pretend to water them.

balazs probably discovered the hifly brutal style 1,5 years in development so he had to edit the level in order to make it as hard as possible

it isnt even looks like a parody to internals or internal designing style (as lost internals and so on)

hmm... i just thought, internal level design is just a design, no some secret in it. just ppl got used to internals, so they looks as a perfect standard. but its just levels:/

but where are levs: "fair trial", "slippery slope", "on top"? what is "the enigma" and "the turnaround"? pos to dl them in eol?

The difference between internals and other levels is that the original designers were not influenced by any other mans. Thats why it will always be impossible to create a perfect int-like level. Btw its better than a random ff cuz it was made by Csaba ;)

Levs from 90s have this authentic "EYAH i broke the level" feeling when you find a fast style / route because the levs are designed for safeplaying beginners. Doing shortcuts in modern overly designed levels doesn't give this authentic feeling at all.

Are you sure that you have found ALL the shortcuts? 8) The levmaker was maybe "blind" but I'd rather call the level a masterpiece :)

I think it was a weird decision to put versions of ints with barely noticeable differences at the beginning of this pack. Or even to include them at all.The meat and potatoes is obviously in the new levs.

This was a mutual decision with Elasto Mania Team. Anyway, they supplied the levs...

Well, at least the zig zag in the ancient pack plays 100% differently and is a very good level, so obviously you didn't even try it.

Here is a better comparison for Circuitous and Enduro. According to my knowledge, Circuitous was made by Balázs and Csaba altered it as Enduro for Across 1.2

The three levels I tried are fun, 11-12 and 09. Abstract is a bit unpolished, but would have had potential for an interesting internal.

Finally tested the new levels. A few great ones! Wondering what's the reason not including them in the first place?
