Ok I unpacked ALE 2.1 and improved it a bit with a few patches:

-ALE no longer crashes while trying to delete last polygon (you can delete it now)
-Increased new level start polygon's size
-Default lev name: Untitled (changed for fun, heh)
-Elasto Mania Club link in About box was dead. It'll take you to Mopolauta now
-Added "Patched by Smibu" in the scrolling text in About box

I remember there was some other bug that produced like 100 dialog boxes at startup (when opening some lev). I haven't got that one for a while, maybe I can try fixing that too.

Thx you both =)

Increased max zoom limit 1000 --> 100000 (sounds much but now it's pretty much same as Elma's max zoom).

the only bugs that bother me are the over 9000 dialog boxes on open and sometimes autograss goes offscreen to infinity and crashes when selected

Ok - known ALE bugs atm:
-Endless amount of dialog boxes on opening a lev (I guess it depends somehow on the lev whether the error occurs or not)
-That autograss bug
-Replacing pictures to objects -bug (ALE fails to replace one of the pictures and gives one error dialog)
-Rewrite file -bug (sometimes the saved lev file has a weird size if it was overwritten in disk. For example if you have some 9kb-sized lev on disk and overwrite it with the "empty" -lev (4 vertices+2 objects+no pics), the lev should be 978 bytes long - but it's still that 9kb)
-Edit/View -button malfunctioning (I had this for a while, it was gone after deleting ALE.ini)

Small new fix for now - removed the shortcut key for exit (you weren't able to write "x" in some textboxes because of that). Use Alt+F4 instead.

EDIT: Found a new bug: If you open/make a lev whose polygon #0 type is grass and then press New level, the new level's polygon is grass too :D

EDIT2: Fixed a couple of small things:
-Allow multiple instances -checkbox works (earlier it always allowed many ALEs, regardless of the state of the checkbox)
-Level saving -reminder will not go background if you click the main window (you have to deal with the messagebox first)

Fixed bugs in "Replace To" -function, there was like 3 of them :) It should work fine now.

EDIT: Fixed the level file size -bug. ALE forgot to call SetEndOfFile function ;)

EDIT 2: Latest ALE patch is available at http://users.jyu.fi/~mikkalle/Elma. There will be no more patches because Nicolas released ALE sources.

ALE stopped working for me and I can't open any levels. Anyone knows what's wrong and how to fix this? I have the latest patch from Smibu.

I always get this on startup:

yeah, behave boys.

Can't help with the ALE problem ofc, and I doubt anyone can, because it's not supported anywhere.

ile's comment is valid - SLE provides all the features of ALE and more, while being non-buggy and continuously supported by Smibu. Switching to SLE is likely the best advice you'll ever get regarding this issue madik.

Madness, maybe some .NET Framework missing?
Read the instructions for ALE (if there is any).

I have .NET Framework 3.5 (includes 2.0 and 3.0) and 4.6 and there's no instructions. Thanks for trying to help.

Sounds like an issue with your graphics card driver. ALE uses old DirectX 7 methods to draw on the screen, so I would suggest checking your DirectX compatibility and maybe testing different versions of the driver.

I only tested ale a few times way back. but as I remember there are stuff you can do there thats not doable in SLE.

You cant afaik mirror (vertical and horizontal) a level in sle. Also autograss had better options in Ale.

Primary Surface cannot be made.
Google doesn't give much help; it seems to be a pretty rare message with just a few results to some Delphi forums.

ALE still works on my comp with latest Windows 10, so as Markku said, it might be some driver-related problem.

Some features I remember ALE has but SLE doesn't:

- B-spline
- Background picture
- More versatile transform tool
- Different autograss algorithm (don't remember/know the exact differences)

Ramone: SLE can mirror horizontally (Selection -> Mirror) but not yet vertically (I'll add that).

also in NEW! editor you can set the size of the grass.... it would be great in SLE too.

Smibu, it doesnt mirror. It flips it 180 degrees...

I have played some with SLE last weeks. I have some suggestions/Ideas. I should have probably written those down, somewhere.

You can mirror, just mark everything and drag from one side to the other and everything is flipped!

Thank you for trying to help, Markku. I don't like to fiddle with my graphics card driver as it sometimes makes other things worse, makes Elma flicker etc, so I'll have to try and make do with other editors. It's not a big deal anyway.

Where can I download this? I found some links but they didn't work. Is it possible to edit 0LP levels (and other locked levels) with this?
