Pro LGR? I think so..

Post by Lee »

I spent the last couple of days making a Moon LGR. Screenshots:
http://x11.putfile.com/12/34404161546.jpg
http://x11.putfile.com/12/34404172598.jpg

http://x11.putfile.com/12/34404201857.jpg
http://x11.putfile.com/12/34404232659.jpg
When the LGR is complete, I'll also make a level pack to go with it.
I need feedback on what should be improved, any other pictures I should include, or any ideas, please.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I'll will take my time on making this LGR perfect. But, I was updating my LGR just now, and the 'MAKE_LGR.EXE' file isn't working anymore for some reason. I'll have to finish it off on another computer, if I get the chance. Or, I could fix the problem if any of you know what's wrong.
And no, Juski. The head isn't too big.
And...just if any of you are wondering, the metal razer thingies are the killers. They spin around.

I have the exact same problem... It has something to do with the Windows on the comp i think... No dos .exe files work on my comp :( or almost none.

I've had this problem, and i fixed it... quite simple :

On my comp, the autoexec.nt file was missing in the C:/windows/system32/ ( which was causing the problem )

1. Go in C:/windows/repair
2. Copy/paste autoexec.nt in your C:/windows/system32/ folder
3. Get in properties of the file and set to "Read-only" ( you don't want the computer to erase it )
4. Reboot your comp
5. Should work fine now

and yeah, awesome lgr !

That didn't help, but thanks anyway. I will download that EasyLGR program instead.
EDIT: The EasyLGR program isn't helping. I don't have the Moon.lgr file to open.

Re: My LGR Preview -->

Post by Lee »

i was bored today and decided to make some lgr crap. first i took some images from random sonic game just to see how it would look. this was not a serious attempt:

sonic theme was boring. i remembered a game called commander keen and tried to copy that. here is my result: (this is not a serious attempt)

you can see i replaced stone3 with black
[img removed]
yep, commander keen goes around collecting desserts. its a classic, gotta get the points bullshit.
and omg, plenty of textures available :ooo
[img removed]
there is the spaceship
[img removed]
there is quite a bit of diffusion, but i couldnt be fucked cleaning it up. and i couldn't be fucked making the killers and desserts unpixelated.

it seems my images have been cropped at the right edge. some important pics missing. but fuck it.
and that is what i did when i was bored. i might make that moon lgr again, don't ask.

... now i go back to playing elma :P... and i'm not sorry i wasted your time here

Re: Pro LGR? I think so..

Post by Lee »

i found many problems with default lgr.

1. the ground is blue. it shouldn't be blue, so i changed it to a more realistic colour; brown.

2. sky constantly panning across in background is annoying. i edited it so it is only 1 colour, therefore doesn't move about and distract me from wr run.

3. objects are not round. sometimes when you think you will get the apple your wheel passes right through the edge of it. that is not good. i made all the objects perfect circles to fix this problem.

4. pictures in the background are annoying. when it comes down to it, all you really want to do is drive some wrs. not look at the pixelated pictures. i deleted all unnecessary pics.

here are screenshots:
http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/145/lllgr1.png
http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/9744/lllgr2.png

5. i know alot of you complain about the lack of grass in some levs. i left the grass in this lgr just for you morons.

tell me what you think

Looks coal Leeland. My only suggestion is that you instead of doing killers and apples like solid circles could do hollow circles around the normal apples and killers. It would look coaler and you would still be able to see exactly where they are. It's your choice of cuz ;o

i know what you mean john. but i don't think it matters whether the object is actually a picture or just a plain circle.

6. this happens quite often for me. im waiting for a ff battle to begin, and after the countdown is complete and the battle has started the whole screen is completely flooded with players, and they are way too colourful. (i forget to hide players sometimes)
rather than stop playing just to hide players and lose precious ff time, i made bike2 the same shade as the sky. thus it is less distracting. (unless ofcourse they have a shirt (even then it will still be playable).

lgr is almost done, i'll post link later tonight

max lgr, i still use it :O
but. those "perfectly" round apples, killers and flowers seem to help a lot but. there is a bug. either in the lllgr.lgr, in elma, or in my eyes. once in tag, where 1px is kinda lot, my wheel has gone throughout the apple by 2px :( maybe im blind so you check it out and say what you think:

no other lgr could be more accurate. just watch any int04 wr rec. the problem is in the game itself; it is unpredictable.

Yes, when using nitro patch you can get through whole objects sometimes, I guess same thing happens in normal elma, but in a smaller scale. And yes, the game is unpredictable, that's why auto-levs are impossible to make. If you really want a proof, try this lev I wanted to make as an auto-lev but I discovered in no time that it was completely impossible to do.

Updated my LGR.
Sometimes people say 'try to get to the secret area', so I put back the secret area sign.
Also made the frame texture completely black. Looks nicer + reduces file size.

some months ago I was developing a Tron lgr, looked pretty cool, but animations of aapels and killers and flowa were so damn bad... I made default sky go grey so it looked similar to the sky in the movie. as well as removing suspension, so the wheels were in the air. Looked max if you zweqspinned.
