Elma Olympics (levels would be appreciated)

Post by A.K.B. »

Just a forum battle, I'll post up two levels, and you try to do the best you can in them. If you could PM me any levels you've made for any other olympic athletic events, then t'would be appreciated. I'll look through and post the good ones as events. There are no deadlines. Just for fun. Break the records.

Olympic1.lev: http://up.k10x.net/roqyeccxpvilz/Olympic1.lev
100 Metres is easy: Get fastest time. rec names: 1Mxxxyyy xxx= time yyy= nick

Olympic2.lev: http://up.k10x.net/wvcrqmiaufrgr/Olympic2.lev

Long Jump. This is tricky to do. You have to jump before the foul line, and whatever notch of ground you make contact with first is the measurement. Each notch is 10cm.
rec names: LJxxxyyy xxx=measurement yyy= nick
note: I will have to verify the distance if you're not sure of what it is.
Other rules: You may only start from original start point, no extra run ups. Once you've started, you may only continue in the same direction until you have completed your jump, you may not die in your jump.
Playing with high res preferred, each higher pole (apart from first high pole) is one metre.

So far I have:
Olympic1: 9:77
Olympic2: 900cm

I will edit this in future for WR's, rule changing, new levs, etc.

Awesome idea!

Just one problem: it's pretty impsy to count these notches, thus it is impsy to know whether you improved or not. What about some distance-indicators?

Quite an interesting idea, but I agree with WkE that the long jump lev should have some distinct marks to help measuring the result (like the "traditional" long jump / ski jump levs usually have numbered apples). What other events would be fun to play?
  • Longer distances are obviously doable, might get boring though if there are too many of them... but a few different events, why not.
  • Hurdles should be easy to design as well, as long as the lev stays playable. I just have a feeling that a level like that could turn out pretty irritating höyling-wise, if it's not well tested.
  • High jump (or pole vault) sounds nice and challenging, one way of doing it could be some arrangement of slim equidistant poles on flat ground, each pole a little higher than the previous one. You'd start from right and try to brutal your way as left as you can (preferably in that direction, since it's probably more fun with alobrutals), and the result would of course be the highest pole you manage to jump over.
My time on Olympic1: 9.74

updated rules for long jump, soz Jarkko, but that makes it too easy to pass max jump of 10m....

ps. 910cm now ;)

also, high jump could have qualifying levs, and different height levs, would be quite max. rule- not allowed to touch "pole". good idea?

also, plz post recs if you can..

You should've written numbers for each meter beneath the big meter markers in the long jump lev. Good idea though, and nice that the levels mirror the real track & field world records quite well.
Was it cast for the mass who burn and toil?
Or for the vultures who thirst for blood and oil?

I knew the trick was to make it hard to get even NEAR the recs, that's what makes a limit tangibly exciting.

and 910cm... http://mxb.dk/upload/LJ910AKB.rec

if you have low res, then do a countBACK from the last spike (the last spike is 990cm, any over and you have 10m)

and if you are STILL too lazy, remember you can just post ur rec and I'll do teh counting..

OK ladies and gentleman it's time for 400 meters! Could YOU be the one capable of battling against warriners overwhelmness? or could you have balls even for the michael johnsons 43.18 world record? OR maybe mayke history of getting under 43?!?!

400 meters

remember, dont start too fast or you'll get tired in the end!

http://up.k10x.net/nffdcjppouotr/amppe085.rec
byez, gotta sleep now :)

EDIT: 42,68 now. The levv is helluva addictive ;o

EDIT2: 39,70. Looks more like 300m :S
38 seems possible with my style, but getting lower feels max tricky even if u are a wild master of sick speedy wheelpressings.

well Zamppe, I'm not sure it could be a 400m lev because it's pasible so much lower. Maybe a design not dependant on gravity apples?

well, the founder of topic, AKB said it could be only athletic events, though it would be nice if he changed it to any olympic event, then we could have an olympic table after we would come up with any olympic event being made into an elma level

Other Olympic events? Like what's the aim? Time trial? ;I

Igge, if the WR is 12.21, then make it extremely hard to get 12.50

you should really make it 110m hurdles (WR 12:88)

Like it though, like it.
