it's doing in every rec, but i think i found the problem. when check "select no players by default" and open some rec/s, you have there apples+flower, eventhough there shouldn't be any, because there are no players selected:)

Level editor:
-Added some toolbar buttons for quick access (thanks to Mawane for the graphics)
-Connect -tool (Cut/connect, press space to switch mode)
-Unsmoothen -tool (this is in the Smoothen tool, just hold Ctrl to unsmooth)
-Level properties -window (shortcut key = F4, you can see amount of level elements and top 10)
-Shortcut keys for tools (the letters should be underlined in the left panel, if not, press Alt)
-Best time for singleplayer shown in a text label

General:
-Faster startup (at least a bit, some operations are done on a separate thread now (such as update checking), so they won't slow the program down)
-Rendering settings are in a nice property grid now

Replay manager:
-Maximize state is remembered

Replay viewer:
-Bugs fixed

Current problems/bugs:
-Just noticed that mouse locking (horizontal/vertical) doesn't work anymore for some reason.
-Sometimes when opening a lev from windows, you may get an error like "Error opening LGR file: Reason:"
and the reason is really weird. I mean, no one has reported this but I get it every once in a while. No idea what the cause is, but it must have something to do with FreeImage.dll. Maybe it's incompatible or something. I use FreeImage only for converting from PCX to BMP, so I should really try getting rid of this library and code my own conversion routine. Gotta learn the file formats and do it some day...

Another thing: Ville_J said that the head's position in replay viewer is not correct. I decided to adjust the head position and then test this with a piece of code. I found out that in 3 of my 1553 replays, the head intersected a polygon in one frame very slightly (averagely 0.01 "elmameters"). I tried to adjust some more but couldn't get better results.

NOTE! DLL files were updated too!

great update again, nice work! :P is it possible to store settings to some file? because i lose my setup after every update :X (general settings, replay viewer settings+rendering settings). and if you somehow make the invisible body visible, this will become the best elma app ever:))

Re: Elma manager - Updated 23rd November 2010

Post by Smibu » 23 Nov 2010, 19:32

Settings are lost in every update because the settings file name will be different in each update. This is to prevent possible incompatibilities.

Maybe the hardest part in kuski body drawing is the arm animation (if it needs to be animated :) ). Also I think the positions of wheels and head (relative to bike's midpoint) affect somehow the arm and leg positions.

Anyway I think I'm not going to update this for a while now unless some serious bugs are found (exams in uni coming etc).

EDIT: Just remembered - if anyone wants even faster startup time for Elmanager, you should create a native image of Elmanager in the global assembly cache. Basically it can be done like this: Find out where "ngen.exe" is (should be in the .NET Framework 4.0 directory) and run it with command line:

ngen install C:\Elmanager\Elmanager.exe

Note that you must have administrative privileges to do this.

Re: Elmanager - Updated 4th December 2010

Level editor:
-Topology errors (intersections) are now highlighted with red circles
-Draw regular polygons with Ellipse -tool by holding Ctrl
-Top10 is selectable in Level properties window
-Average shown in top10
-Previous and Next level -buttons for browsing levels in lev directory

Elmanager code has been converted from VB .NET to C# now.

NOTE! The program no longer uses FreeImage.dll and FreeImageNET.dll, so you can delete these files.

How can I set the number of sides for an ellipse on a laptop? I have a laptop so I only get "+" with shift & "+". I don't have all the keys a normal 102 keyboard has. It doesn't work for "-" either. :(
Also... I press CTRL to draw regular polygons but I only get the base ellipse - 10 sides - holding ctrl or tapping it or whatever does nothing at all.

Hmm good point Mrrrr... I guess I gotta change those + and - keys to something else. And not sure if you tried this, but you need to hold Ctrl while you are creating the ellipse and moving mouse. And it's LEFT Ctrl.

If I have dynamical topology check on, move some vertex to introduce an intersection, and then move on to the next level (without saving the changes) and come right back, the error circle is still there (until I invoke a new topology check). I guess one would want the circle(s) to disappear in cases like this.

Good points Markku and Mawa, will be fixed! I also added a "todo" list in here http://users.jyu.fi/~mikkalle/Elma/EM_TODO.txt so you can see what to expect maybe and see what's already been suggested.

Holding left ctrl and creating an ellipse... it's the same 10 sided ellipse... if i move mouse it shrinks or it enlarges. Nothing more... Maybe I'm doing something wrong. :|

Level editor:
-Info texts should be better visible now
-Numpad +/- -keys changed to other +/- keys (next to right shift and backspace, you know)
-Level editor's name is SLE from now on

Replay viewer:
-Kuski's body is fully visible, including arm animations when rotating (when LGR file is selected etc)
-Fixed small bug where taskbar was visible when going to fullscreen

Replay manager:
-Names of internals are shown

---Level editor & replay viewer---
-Increased max zoom out & zoom fill margin

Here's a pic of the renewed viewer: http://users.jyu.fi/~mikkalle/Elma/pict ... viewer.png

Lousku: dunno if that's really fixable. The program must be closed first anyway. :)

great update, i'm very happy about the visible body:) only one of the hand animations looks little bit weird, in normal elma the hand is going to the back part of his head and in elmaviewer it's going only somekind of up:) otherwise it's very cool:P

jon, does that happen in a specific level and with a specific lgr file, or always? If it happens only in certain levs / lgrs, send them to me and I'll take a look at them.

On the other hand, if this happens always, your OpenGL implementation probably doesn't support 8-bit stencil buffer (the ground/sky drawing relies on this). Your Windows indeed seems kinda oldish ;D

I could add some checks for next version to see if this is really the case.

And Culino: I noticed the same, I just didn't bother to improve the animation, at least not yet.

it happens always ye................ and its probably not because of my windows (xp), but noob intel gfx card (newest driver), had a lot of probelms wiht other stuff using opengl :D would be ultra nice if you added some kinda compatibility to systems using other versions of opengl (im 2.0) :D donno if its hardik ;o

Re: Elmanager - Updated 20th March 2011

Post by Smibu » 20 Mar 2011, 11:22

Updated again. Biggest changes:

Level editor:
-Transform: rotate only/scale only -modes (hold Left Shift/Ctrl)
-"Lock lines": hold Left Shift and move a vertex
-Whole kuski body is shown (in LGR mode)
-Pipes/ellipses are snapped to grid now too
-Select all with Ctrl+A

Replay viewer:
-Improved playback speed -bar and playing bar
-Event type checkboxes moved to context menu

Replay manager:
-New search options: File size and date modified
-State of replay list is now saved (order of columns and their widths)
-Upload replay to zworqy or up.k10x.net easily (in context menu)

I just noticed that the version date in the main window is wrong, but it doesn't really matter...

thanks again for the great update, there is almost every single thing in the program :D i was just wondering, if you could add the zoom-bar, alongside with playback speed bar and progress bar, it could be awesome! and to be able to change rendering settings immediately, without closing the window. many thanks for the good work.

Sure culino, I guess they can be done.

For jon: run this http://up.k10x.net/tzmohzmxbqkcl/OpenGLTest.exe (you need to have OpenTK.dll in same directory) and tell what it says :)

Re: Elmanager - Updated 6th May 2011

Post by Smibu » 6 May 2011, 14:58

Level editor:
-Checking topology lists all problems, not just the first found
-Checking topology warns if some apples/flowers are inside ground (unreachable)
-Intersections are highlighted with a red square instead of circle because they easily got mixed up with apples

Replay viewer:
-Added zoom "bar" (it's a button, click and hold it and move mouse left/right to zoom)
-Added "Multi spy" (follow driver must be unchecked or no players selected in playlist). Idea by jon ;)

Other:
-Fixed picture/texture distance bug (finally)
-Fixed a couple of small bugs in level editor
-When changing some option in rendering settings, the view is updated automatically (no need to close window to preview)

Updated also pictures in homepage, they were max old.

This is mainly a bugfix update. For example F4 (level properties) in level editor didn't work at all. As a new feature, you're able to put Elmanager in cache now (see config window). This should speed up program startup a bit.

NOTE: DLL files were updated too, so download them as well. Also, Lzma.dll is not used anymore, so you can delete it.

Bigger news: I published Elmanager sources: http://users.jyu.fi/~mikkalle/Elma/Elmanager_Src.7z. See src_readme.txt in the zip for info!

Edit:
  • I removed the Google Site page due to some annoying problems (for example it had no CSS support).
Edit 2: (21st Aug 2011)
  • Fixed a couple of bugs in level editor.
Edit 3: (4th December 2011)
  • Fixed 2 bugs (in cut/connect tool and transform).
  • Improved transform tool slightly (you can now move the elements by dragging from the center).
  • Simplified filename suggestion.
  • Some other small updates in level editor.
Edit 4: (17th January 2012)
  • Levels that don't have start or exit object will be handled properly (they are added automatically when opening such a level).

What I'd really love to see in Elmanager is:
1. Highlighted last apple of a player in replay viewer (on the list at the left)
2. Possibility to "delay" replays in replay viewer to be able to compare two dif. recs at a particular place in the middle of the level
None of these is hard i suppose... any hope?

1st is nice idea, tho atm you still can click apple (or any event: groundtouch, volt, etc) to see where is the kuski in the level
2nd, I've asked and it didn't seem possible for him to make at that moment i asked. maybe now with new skills would be doable
and ye, sometimes it feels like its ez to add stuff, but not always the case. nice suggestions pawq

1. Should be quite easy to make. And good idea imo. I will try to do this when I have time.
2. Harder. First question that arises is - how to implement this nicely in the replay viewer window? It would also need some updates in code... replay viewing was not really designed with that in mind. But this would be useful, yes.

Yeah... I guess the best solution in the long run would be to code Elmanager from scratch using WPF (now it's using Windows Forms) that would have some nice features, such as more flexible user interfaces. Windows Forms is quite old technology already.

Edit: (19th May 2012)
Updated, see changelog.

Updated. This version hopefully fixes an issue with ground and sky rendering for some people. So if you couldn't see ground/sky textures properly in previous versions, this update will probably fix it.

Pretty strange. It couldn't load ObjectListView.dll for some reason (Google translate said "Discovered assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference."). Do you have the latest ObjectListView.dll? Try redownloading the DLL files.

yeah, the problem was because of the older version of ObjectListView.dll. i was updating through the program itself and there were always only the 3 exe files. thanks for helping me out.

i was also wondering, is it possible to implement showing also gas and brake presses in replay viewer? would be much easier to analyze what i'm doing wrong in some levs.

Oops sorry, I didn't see your question until now because I guess you edited the post afterwards.

Anyway, your suggestion has been discussed before. The only thing that would be somehow possible to show is whether gas is being pressed for each frame. It would not be very accurate because frames are saved every 1/30 seconds and there is no event data for it (unlike volts, for example). Brake keypresses aren't detectable at all.

And generally I'm not really going to add any new features in Elmanager anymore in the first place. Nowadays, when it comes to Elma-related coding, I spend my time for Elma 2. Maybe I'll put a notice about this in the first post.

But I DO promise to fix any new bugs if such are discovered.

Fixed a bug. Thanks to Mawane for reporting it.

Plus, all files are now in one zip file to make it simpler.

Koopa had an extremely serious complaint to share:

[22:36:07] ( Koopa) also in smibus editor is very annoying googleish thing
[22:36:41] ( Koopa) it checks updates automatically
[22:36:57] ( Koopa) you can turn it off from the settings, but the settings has been
[22:37:02] ( Koopa) set on
[22:37:13] ( Lousku) checks updates and then asks if want to update
[22:37:16] ( Lousku) what's wrong with that :S
[22:37:17] ( Koopa) if you dont look the settings you dont know it
[22:37:57] ( Koopa) if the option wasnt already turned on then it would be ok
[22:38:11] ( Koopa) but it was turned on without letting me to know
[22:38:15] ( Koopa) so its not nice
[22:38:18] ( Lousku) wategak wrong with that :
[22:38:36] ( Lousku) it doesnt donga anything but info of new update
[22:38:59] ( Koopa) i just dont want any program to be connected to internet without
[22:39:01] ( Koopa) my premission
[22:39:14] ( Lousku) then block it :P
[22:39:34] ( Koopa) nope. smibu should uncheck the update box
[22:41:57] ( pingywings) whats bad about eol connected to internet
[22:42:04] ( pingywings) i think the clues in the name
[22:42:19] ( Lousku) no koopas problem is that smibu's editor checks for updates
[22:42:24] ( pingywings) ah
[22:42:29] ( Lousku) and gives a popup when open teh exe
[22:42:35] ( Koopa) nope lousku
[22:42:54] ( Koopa) its a bad thing that it doesnt tell the user that it does it
[22:43:21] ( Koopa) checking updates without letting the user know is a bad thing imo
[22:43:25] ( Koopa) very google style
[22:43:31] ( Koopa) = usa spy style
then again i don't know anything
maybe easier not to think abouut alöl things thought than not things thought ... or something..=?

Lol Lousku it's not that big thing for me. Almost every program checks for updates automatically so it's very annoying to have hundreds of updates services running in background especially when can't know always which ones are trustable. That's why i don't like autoupdates. But of course i trust Smibu's editor. I haven't used it much yet, but it seems to be a very good program to use. Well done Smibu!

I decided to put the update checkbox enabled by default because it's simply more convenient that way - if the checkbox was off by default, some people might not notice it at all and never get updates.

Another way to handle the situation could be that Elmanager would ask on first time startup how to check for updates:
  • Check for updates automatically (on every startup)
  • Ask me if I want to check for updates (every week/month)
  • Never check for updates

Ok nice :) Because according to the chat log, it sounded a rather serious issue. But I may still improve the update mechanism because you had some good points.

Not sure if you have the knowledge or the desire for it, but a replay viewer directly on the site would be awesome. And if possible, search for level in eol database instead of uploading level too.
