Big Book of Elma Facts

Post by Domovoy »

The main idea of this project is to collect and popularize precise but completely useless technical details about elma and across, kinda elma popular science. The most part of them haven't been published yet, so I think it would be interesting for you. There're 5 pilot "facts" for now but about 20 more are in queue, so stay tuned.

I just read everything. It's nice facts :D though I would like to know more about the physics in game. Like gravity, acceleration etc. I also wonders if there is any air-resistance? if not then it's a little unrealistic that the wheel will move up/down in air when you spin it, isn't it? And how do the brakes suck to the ground like that? These kind of facts could actually improve kuski skills I think :)

The main idea of this project is to collect and popularize precise but completely useless technical details about elma and across
"Compeletely useless" is what it is all about. I plan several facts on elma mechanics but the project is more about history, about how the things came to where they are, about what was abandoned, and what was kept from the very beginning. That is what I'm writing in the first place.

Well, I think knowing something about the physics would be very interesting and not like max useful. But if you think it wouldn't suit this project of yours, then maybe do a separate release of those facts xD

I have 45 drafts in my design document. After filtering out facts that violate Balazs rights or disclose some information relevant to cheating, and combining the rest, there would stay about 10-15 facts, I guess.
Also I am learning some new information and recalling some nuances not listed in the design document in the course of time, so there can be about 5 facts extra.

Thus there would be about 30-35 facts in total. After that I will probably hold some special researches on demand, like abovementioned physics details.

By the way, to get actual error messages instead of “Sorry, internal error”, you should create file message.inf of arbitrary content (empty will do as well) in elma directory.
This is really cool, I got some interesting error message like "strlen error <= ...". =)
How do you find out all this stuff?

Is the Elasto Mania background editable? Or Balazs made picture in pattern? And what about the characters, are they images or something in the game generate textured characters?

I never saw that kind of error. You can retrieve the exact text of last error message from the file error.txt in elma directory, and then we will find out what it is about.

Menu background is filled with picture in pattern; font is a bunch of pictures.
I will publish more about menu backgrounds and fonts the day after tomorrow.

The most possible way of getting that error is to open in ordinary elma replay, created in belma.

I am about to switch to unhurried silent mode. That means I'm going to publish 1-2 facts per week (instead of current 7 facts per week) and I'm not going to post bumping junk like "3 more facts" in this topic anymore. Use http://trivia.idiaths.ru/rss.xml to keep yourself tuned.

However any suggestions about new facts or discussions about existing facts are greatly appreciated.
That program works fine only on elma 1.0. Ez patch it to work on 1.11a, but until anyone actually does that, the only way to have fancy error messages is to hexedit elma.
The program itself is really weird, written in Basic and packed with lame packer, no wish to patch it.

Hey domi, nice Book you have, over there! ;)

I suppose you have stopped updating the page because of lack of "question ideas," which is quite understandable. However, if you ever feel like adding more posts in the future, here is a thing I've always been curious towards:

What is alovolt? How has it come about? Why louder sound, why right and not left, why, why, and why.

Yours,
