THE LATE 10th ANNIVERSARY VIDEO(?) THING released

Post by User » 16 Sep 2010, 14:52

decided to create new topic because the old is quite hmm old.
the video is ready now, many people backed out and there was many problems on the way so we had to cut down on the plans, so only internal part was done, maybe there will be contests etc parts in the future but dont count on it.

here is a website which i created in 2 minutes: http://elastomania.jappe2.net/movie.html
direct link to film: http://elastomania.jappe2.net/IM-INTERNALS.mp4
youtube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhujtzYD0VM (part 1)

the video covers elma internals history to some degree of detail
its this thing if someone is not aware: http://mopolauta.moposite.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=6592
subtitles:
english subs by Kortsu: http://up.k10x.net/shjwzywjkbpmv/IM-INTERNALS.srt
hungarian subtitles by Labs: http://mopolauta.moposite.com/download/file.php?id=1190

big thanks to everyone who participated and big fuck you to people who backed out. the video has some mistakes in it but its still a nice video and if you dont like it you can suck my 1 inch dick

major sin is the lack of karlis/fm content but other than that internal history was quite decently squeezed into 30mins(it would require tens of hours to go through properly!)

I rly liked this vid :D
Some interesting quotes etc.
It was cool to see it all from 1999 year, especially because i entered the scene like 4 months ago and didnt know much about it all.
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

:DDD

ok, some later thoughts
I wont be talking about the awesomeness of this for long, it would be just boring. its absolutely fantastic
for bad points: 4 songs for 28mins is abit lil imo... music was just boring (cool nonetheless, especially floyds). also akbom's quality was pure crap :( and one more thing, zweq:john credit ratio was too high imo. i know that zweq was the one to invent and drive first all those stupid pizza styles, but hell! its John! The John! the elma legend! and realy last thing - wtf not a word about edq?:(

this is a brilliant piece of pc-gaming culture and history. it is also an amazing work of collaboration. FUCKING NICE!

Obviously it is best for Internal players, because although I remember most of the events in this video, I wasn't touched very much, because I never really participated in the internal part of elma. Anyway, I hope that also new players will watch this and think about the deep craziness of this game.

In terms of the video, it could have been a lot cooler, faster, funnier, better, whatever... but I think it doesn't need it (and probably never wanted it), as this is a manuscript, a roundup, an epic index of gaming history. It's not "epic win" but epic like a rock.

Congratulations and many thanks for this wonderful work!

(Now please make one about #battle and eol/belma)

Pretty much agree with everyone, that's a great vid, huge thanks for making it!

ye, would be nice. Though i'd be more pleased to see some crazy extended 2hour version of internal vid with lots of trivia stuff and backstage information about slick wrs and styles (ike that one about Juzam accidentally sharing zweq's serpents tale in #across, which is mentioned in the vid), because this one looked more like a promo :) Hm, now i think i'm being picky, so disregard what i've said here, i'm just a nostalgy-loving bastard, who likes to remember good ol' days, haha. */me goes off to read MP's interview for 918th time*

It's very nice that things like this are being done! Thx for this video! I think this should be uploaded to Youtube like EDQ.

I was hoping it to go deeper than what it went, but for only 30mins long video it was a nice brief compilation from the most important happenings in the internals during the years.

So I decided to take this task because I felt like I had to something and not just sit on my ass and be grateful for the vid. I'm sorry Labs, I didn't notice that you wanted to do these aswell, I noticed it too late.

Anyway, subs in .srt, which I guess is fine. Should work in VLC and BSP at least.

Great video! Jappe2 is the man when it comes to video editing... And good narrator voice too.

I wasn't actually making anything for this particular video. I only collected information for the contest part. Looking forward to it :)

solid video, fun to watch. I really thought my two wrs were going to be the main portion of the video and how I took them from two top kuskis in their peak, John and Tor. Maybe the 20 year annniversary video they will get their credit...

Just messing around. thanks everyone for the vid.

criticism
calling this movie "elastomania internal history" is just a speculation since you "forgot" DarmMoeD's achievements. "it was not possible to do so for various reasons" is a rotten excuse. correct chronology should be restored instead. with dramatic "best kuski of the scene was a cheater" part :P have no idea for what reason "he used a cheat program called save/load where he could save a run in the middle of the level and continue it from there" appears twice during movie.

such randomly cutted off wr table screenshots are ugly and uninformative.
no informative times at all and no highlight about "what was really new in style invented". the only good example is steppes style development analysis.

why Abula is credited for twin peaks if "the driver being credited for the style is the person who first finished the style as a world record"? why milagros is mentioned in hi flyer context with his "achievement" in train level. same with ramp. i would not say uphill before finish is the part which requires much help. shitty highlight.
why Xiphias is mentioned in one row with Bjorn and Kazan?
whats so interesting in zyntifox quote about WC4? he did not gain any 1st place even after elimination of DarMoeD.

mistakes
curvacIous
stini's bounce is obviously considered as bug bounce nowadays
DarMoeD did not create saveload by himself
"nobody believed he was cheating" contradicts with "DarMoeD's recs always looked inhumanly"
24htt: zweq did u37 too (also would be nice to highlight wrs droven during 24htt, circa by tor and bb by zweq)
in #232 toringe doesn't "takes 27 wrs", he reaches the value of 27 but takes only 13 of them in that table
27 is obviously not more than half of 54
in subtitles "will be just as remarkable - at the least" sounds more like "at the lists".

conclusion
the good project was started but seems like you was too lazy to do it all on high quality level. better no movie than such crappy shit.

Ves, I did not see your name in the credits, hence I assume you didn't help making the video. Did it ever cross your mind that it could have been better had you put some effort into it?

igge, just was not around when the manuscript was published. wondering why nor authors nor community did check it. zweq is in credits but he obviously knew about 24htt and didn't fix - was too lazy to read?

xiph, really nothing to say on topic?

kazeta, i didn't miss any word of this topic. it's not the nice video for reasons i mentioned. mistakes are not a big deal compared to criticism.

Perhaps they accidentally missed some minor things because they had to do so many other things themselves? Again, had you helped them things probably would have turned out differently. But you didn't help them, thus I don't think you should complain.

They didn't forgot, they mentioned it shortly when going through the history and then went more into detail later when looking at some individual kuskis. And not focusing on cheating is a really good thing, otherwise it would basically had been "history of cheating".

Just because the wr driver is credited doesn't mean they can't mention other people that helped finding the style.

He's had about same amount of WR's if not less.

no

Those are not opposites. They we're inhuman but few if not no one thought he was a cheater.

TorInge was inhuman != TorInge was cheating.

Yeah, he could totally be a cyborg too.

Hmm, is it cheating to make good tiems and let people assume you're a human? I'd say no.
then again i don't know anything
maybe easier not to think abouut alöl things thought than not things thought ... or something..=?

it was quite good (some detials here and there mentioned by other people), except the pronounciation which is really bad
perhaps you should have asked beforehand how is for example TorInge pronounced

calling this movie "elastomania internal history" is just a speculation since you "forgot" DarmMoeD's achievements. "it was not possible to do so for various reasons" is a rotten excuse. correct chronology should be restored instead. with dramatic "best kuski of the scene was a cheater" part :P have no idea for what reason "he used a cheat program called save/load where he could save a run in the middle of the level and continue it from there" appears twice during movie.

why Abula is credited for twin peaks if "the driver being credited for the style is the person who first finished the style as a world record"? why milagros is mentioned in hi flyer context with his "achievement" in train level. same with ramp. i would not say uphill before finish is the part which requires much help. shitty highlight.
As far as I know nin wrote the manuscript 100%(please correct him if im mistaken) himself based on information on moposite/mopolauta and interviews from different kuskis. Nin wasn't even around during darm's big years, so obviously he had no clue how big influence darm actually had on the wr tt progression(I guess nobody told that to nin either).

I think abula should be mentioned when talking about twin peaks u18 style. It's not about getting credit for something really, it's just about elma history, elma story from 2003 what led to current wr style. Same with milagros' participation in hi flyer and ramp frenzy. The question imo is were all these "credit" things necessary while leaving karlis, luther or cloud out of the whole video.

There's plenty of story material and background information behind every wr and style, it would be fun to have a story-collection about them, I guess

Why not? Suppose you mean his lack of wrs compared to Bjorn and Kazan, but I think he's got at least equal talent and skill. Or maybe just lately Bjorn and Kazan have left Xiph behind :).

The vid has its flaws, but I think it's still a decent movie like I said before and of course jappe's editing is top notch as always. I mean after all we're talking about voluntary work here.

Ves wrote: zweq is in credits but he obviously knew about 24htt and didn't fix - was too lazy to read?
Actually never seen the manuscript, not before or after the movie. I'm used to getting credited for nothing o/. Actually I was credited for the interview I wrote, maybe nin could publish those interviews.

at first i was thinking about that too, but then i remembered Xiphias' pwnage on Animal Farm with his new start style for quite a long time, so i think it's okay. :)
