8X8 Chain FF Project - Thursday, July 19, 20:00 Fin-time start!

Post by danitah »

I got this idea to make a big Chain Lev where a lot of levelmakers make random parts, kinda. If you are interested, reply here or let me know. Since there are 64 parts, you would probably need to make around 5 parts. So you don't really have to spend a large amount of time. Will be cruise. I will explain more detailed how the lev should be etc later, now I just want to know names of people who want to join ;) Anyone is free to take part.

Final lev layout:
Image

Parts will be randomly placed. So if you get a G-part it can go into any area where it says G on the map. If you want to trade or give away parts with someone, that's ok. It doesn't have to be someone in this list even, anyone is welcome. Just let me know so I can update the list. If you get more parts than you want, and don't know who to give it to, you can just say you don't want it and I will find someone to take it. Max 3 parts per levelmakers though.

2016 DL link: http://kopasite.net/up/x8733ws5eo6ptp2/88.rar

Parts: (note: All parts updated. Some had thin polygons around them that I forgot to delete. You can redownload or just delete polys. Empty lev should have 18 polys now.)
(Levelmakers marked with * have finished their parts.)

Instructions:
1. Download your parts from the list and you can start making inside your area. Ignore the title of the lev.

2. Limits etc: Try to use around 80 vertices for each part. You can use max 100 vertices if you want, but preferably try to keep it around 80. There are already 18 vertices in the lev, so including these, the limit is 118.

Some people have 'borrowed' vertices from a part to others (for example a part only has 60 vertices so they made +20 for another). For those who already did that is fine but try not to do this.

3. Grass, Pictures, Textures etc is optional. (grass goes to vertex limit, no limit on pictures and textures)

4. Put at least 2 apples, and max 10 objects. (apples + killers, flower not included)

5. The kind of lev you want to make is largely up to you. Just follow these few guidelines: It should be easy to finish on first try, no spots where you die easily, or apples that are easy to miss and not get back to etc.

6. Just a few tips for designing: Transition between parts will be something like bike height + one wheel size. Also keep in mind that you are making a part in a continuous series of parts, so bike already has some speed when it enters your part. Similarly you should keep in mind that bike doesn't have too much speed when it enters next part.

7. Do not put your name, signature etc in the lev. I will make a map with all designer names when everything is done.

8. You can send parts to me wherever you want (Irc, Lauta PM etc) Deadline: No deadline atm.

9. I will tell you if everything is ok etc.

When I have all parts, I will assign all parts randomly to matching letter parts in the layout. I might take a few liberties when connecting parts, to make everything flow well and look good. If vertex or object limit is reached, I will randomly delete unnecessary vertexes and objects (parts with most vertexes/objects will be reduced first).

Nice, I'm definitely in! I always like these. It's also nice that one designer gets many parts so it's possible to go for different styles.

I'll join, but rather not five parts, one or two okiz. I don't use ALE or sach, so can you cut one part into an empty bordered .lev which can then be filled?

Nice to see so many joiners already! Adding you all to the list. Requesting fewer parts is ok (@Orcc, Labs, BlaZtek), and yeah, I'm going to make all parts into a seperate .lev file that you can edit, and then merge all parts.

Already reached my personal goal of about 10 designers, but imo the more designers, the better this could work. More variation etc :) So anyone is still very much wanted for this project!

Nice Kuchi :) Designers can play it, since you will only have seen <10% of lev (and I won't even tell you where your parts are;)) it's ok.

Re: 8X8 Chain FF Project

Post by danitah »

Wow already over 20 designers in this project! I'm glad so many people find this interesting etc :) This means around 3 parts on average for each designer, sounds pretty good. I will assign parts and have everything ready on monday.

I assigned 2 or 3 parts to all. I put people who said they only want to do one part, or few parts, at 2. If you really only want to make only one, let me know. But keep in mind there will be less than 100 vertexes each part, so you really don't have to put that huge effort.

I am now looking for two levelmakers (2 and 3 parts). First come!

edit: all parts filled, not looking for designers any more.

You might want to reconsider Orcc's participation on this event if you wish to remain any quality in the level. Last time he made a level I witnessed an expected catastrophe, once again, as he was unable to understand what is possible in Elma world if one has even the slightest clue how to play the game.

There are some weird-ass invisible polygons all around my lev F05 and also two in G08. Can they be deleted? Kinda annoying to have those in the corner of the polygon which you are supposed to start building from.

There is no deadline atm. I have updated first post with designers who have finished their parts. (If I have forgotten someone let me know.)

I have some levelmakers in queue in case someone isn't able to participate. So if anyone wants to donate a part then let me know :)

Sorry, I still haven't made anything because I hate commitments I guess. Like, when I just want to make a random lev I can do it with no problems usually, but if I have to make something for a project then it feels a bit like work perhaps? Plus there is this unpleasant feeling of responsibility, like I have to make something really good since it's someone else's project and they don't want to receive lazy\crappy entries. I had similar problems\worries when joining various Doom collaborative projects. I shouldn't have joined, I kind of knew this would happen again. I think just give my parts to someone else...
