Great news! This was a very nice cup in 2014. I hope the levels will be simpler this year though, at least I will try to make a bit more suitable level than last time.

Yeah very good tip. The shortest event was the most enjoyed one in the last WBC so my suggestion is to pick more than one short level.

Cool, I will surely try to make a level or two.

I think it's definitely a good idea to host it on nindex as long as you will have the time to take care of it (I know you're often busy). Especially if you could do small interviews or something that would be great. I don't remember for sure but I think the first WBC didn't have a dedicated page on the internet and it felt a bit incomplete because of that?

I'm very intrigued by the possibility of having FFs in the cup. :)

Nice Blaz!

So far we got levels from 3 different designers. We need more.

We will only accept one level/designer, the exception to that rule is if we don't get enough levels submitted then we will start accepting more.

The preliminary deadline to submit your levels is in 7 days, but it will be moved to a date in mid march.

The preliminary start of WBCII is the first weekend of april (2-3rd) More info will be revealed shortly!

For now, please make levels.

I want to submit something but I feel inconfident, like I'll submit a lev and it will be considered too basic, not varied in styles enough, not too creative visually, etc. I'm just not sure what to aim for. Some pointers would be nice... For example, would something like this be OK or not: http://www.recsource.tv/r/iqoacwngze

I'm just not good at handling "pressure". Like if I just make a lev and start it as a regular battle then it doesn't matter much whether it's great or not: people will play, have some fun and probably won't complain unless it's really shitty. But on a cup certain quality is expected and that makes me worried. I think if my lev gets in the cup and then tens of people call it shit, I won't handle it too well. Call me a pussy or whatever if you want.)

You have to try anyways. The team will choice if its seems good enough. Maybe there will be always someone who doesnt like a lev and calls it shit, despite lev is actually a good one and this doesnt means your levs sucks.

Yeah, I have similar thoughts. I've made a few levs that I think are nice but I'm not so sure if they're good enough or fitting for teh. I guess a part of it is that so much of the feedback nowadays is negative (at least the negative people are the loudest ones, even if they were a minority). For many players all levs seem to be annoying and shit, and that's not nice to hear about something you like and have putted a lot of effort into. I guess that's another topic though.

I'm still gonna do what Sla said, send the levs and hope HoHo mans can pick a good one)

P.S. I think that kuch lev would have been great in WBC :)

Pleasing everyone is something that is next to impsy to do in Elma. People have different tastes and also the feedback will depend on ones current mood, and in cups also the variation of levs. So even if you make a great lev it can be called bad if it's very similar to all other cup levs. And whatever lev you make ville_j will call it horror.

That lev kuchitsu showed looks like very nice höylä if it was be used in an appropriate place in cup.

Ty for the encouragement, I guess I should just send a level or two and see what happens.

Btw I'd like to see a topic about what roope is talking. Nowadays we are so used to people shouting "impsy gay shitlev!11" 2 minutes after battle start and, well... I like honest opinions, but I think even when you really dislike something, usually there is a way to package the message without sounding like a total jackass. :p It's not cool that overwhelmingly negative feedback is the norm now, we need more hugs or something.

The deadline for submitting your level is just now moved to the 20th of March, so that gives you 20 more days to submit levels.

We've received way more in the past few days and we have levels from about 8 different designers now! Awesome guys, keep em coming!
I want to submit something but I feel inconfident, like I'll submit a lev and it will be considered too basic, not varied in styles enough, not too creative visually, etc. I'm just not sure what to aim for. These are ghosts all designers are fighting with to certain extents. I hear what you are saying kuch, but I wish you would make a level that is your style. You make awesome levels and don't try to make a lev that isn't you for us. Simple is good. It's like a rock song: a good level is not about what you put in it but what you leave out. If you want some guidelines then I can say that people have been requesting simpler levels than what was last year. A 40s hoyla with no tricky multistyle brainproblems. Random vertexes are cool because they are usually unpredictable. Don't make a pipe, we already received a few pipes and they're good.

I agree with everything that people has said before, but you should know that if your level goes through to be a part of the cup it's because team HoHo thinks that your level would suit. And unfortunately people will always have negative things to say about a level, so don't expect anything else... :)

So far we have 13 submitted levels by 10 different designers! This is good but it would be nice with more levels. Remember you have until the 20th of march (15 more days) to submit levels!

I will not let the designers know beforehand whether or not a level was picked. You will have to wait until after the cup has finished to know. If any levels are found in the eol database, or shared with anyone then they will not be used.

These are the rules I've got so far, please give me feedback if there's something you dislike:
- There will be 10 events and your position for all will count. i.e. no skips.
- There will be +1 bonus event (making it total 11 events) at prime time in canada (i.e. around 2-3am european time). This event is special because if you get a better position than any other events then it will count instead of the worse. And if you don't improve any previous event then it will not count in your scores.
- Designers are allowed to play their own battles
- I'm thinking 2 battles per week

The dates are up, I need your help:

Please read through the dates. If you have any complaints or preferred changes please let me know BEFORE the 8th of april (this is when the cup starts).

http://nindex.se/wbc.php

So the cup starts on Friday evening. Anyone who submitted a level to us to use in WBC are asked not to share them until all events have passed! From some designer(s) we used more than one level, so even if a level from you were already used DON'T share any that you sent!

Any questions? info to read at the linked page (nindex). Please write here if you're missing some info.

Stoked :)

One comment though: Will all events be 1 hour long? I feel that would be a bit unfortunate, seeing as most normal battles are around 15 mins or less. I don't really see why battles for a world cup need to have a completely different format than the battles that are played all year long.

Some battles of course benefit from being 1 hour long and I certainly think there should be a fair share of those here, but I also think it would be nice with some shorter battle times as well if it fits the level.

I'd actually lean on all WBC battles being 1 hour long. Time flies by incredibly quick in the events, and it's quite fun to play levels you usually wouldn't play for long (like short höyläs) for a full hour. For example jblaze's 18 sec höylä was one of the most praised levs in the last WBC, and it would have been a shame if it only had ~20 minutes battle time as it would have had as a normal battle.

1 hour seems very little, very restrictive imo. At least 24 hours for an event would be ok imo.

Think about it, how many surprises are there to give really? I mean, the only acceptable battle modes are normal and FF in a cup like this imo. Correct me if I'm wrong. And length-wise I think it would be a shame to put a battle which everyone enjoys less than an hour. It could ruin the entire cup for some.

More peoples opinions would be nice.

I see where people are coming from, I'll just clarify why I also think some shorter events would be nice:

In a battle what we're really looking for is who can both find the best style and also execute it quickly. Usually we don't have a full hour to spend on this, and the very best battlers (Markku, Zero, Zweq) can usually win a battle and produce extremely good runs in a very short amount of time, often less than 10 mins. Having 60 mins might "shift" the skill level a bit so it becomes a quite different event from normal battles - thereby making the overall winner not necessarily the same as the best "traditional" battler (though of course, the aforementioned players would likely excel in any event).

Or for the vultures who thirst for blood and oil?

I'm still of the opinion that something over 30 mins is no longer a battle. Didn't like when mopobattles started moving to 60 mins as the standard, which also changed the levels to very long ones that weren't really battle levels. Eventhough I like long levels it didn't really feel like battles anymore. But that opinion also stems from my play style, liking to find styles and complete them once, rather than hoyling them to perfection.

On the other hand it's also good to have some different kind of competitions, and this one has been 60 mins from the beginning. So maybe just keep the 60 min format and then we can use the shorter format for some other battle cup, league, mopobattle or whatever.
