Problem with resolution 800*600

Post by niN »

Okay I have a big problem.

Before i formatted my harddrives elma was working perfect.

But then I did it. I formatted the harddrives and ever since when I play elma with 800*600 as resolution the screen starts flashing and it's impossible to play. When I change resolution it works, but it's that 800*600 resolution which doesn't work and thats the only one I can play with :( What's wrong? Is it Direct X? has it got something to do with the resedit thingie, if yes, what?
Thanks!

It's your refresh rate of your monitor i think. Set it to 60 and see if it runs with no problems. If it does, then raise it a little bit. If it still dont flicker, raise it a bit more. When the game starts flicker, set it back to the refresh rate which worked before.

My refresh rate of my monitor is 60, because it suck. Newer monitors can run 75 hz with no probs i think.

That's not helping abu since I said that it didn't help changing refresh rate. It worked perfect untill I formatted my harddrive. There shuldn't be anyhting wrong..

EDIT:

Ok I made a picture of what it look like (NOTE! I made this img by hand so it's not 100% like it is) http://img442.imageshack.us/my.php?image=snap00nu8.gif Then the screen flashes and spins etc..

Update graphics driver.
Try switching to 640 * 480, and then back to 800*640

Maybe DirectX update?

His graphic card is nVidia TNT2 Ultra from 1998.

If i can guess anything it would be you might have to switch back to an older DirectX version. Newer DirectX versions than the one your graphic card are capable of rendering will give you worser performance

I don't belive that unless you show some proofs. In fact, it sounds like complete bs.

It's true.

Any graphic card is made for a DirectX version. Like, the new GeForce8800GTX is made for DirectX10. Older cards don't support the new additions from dx10. Yes, we can install, but won't get the benefits of it.

Because of the changes in the code in the new DX10, it will also make the card run differently in games (just like driver updates). But if your graphic card don't support these changes, it will cost performance.

BTW, no i cannot post any benchmark because i don't seem to find it anywhere. I did read it in a computer magazine a while ago though...
