I've been having this problem for the last month or two, where immediately upon starting the game it appears to be frozen, and pressing enter won't skip the splash screen.

I never had this problem before and I haven't made any changes to eol or any major changes to the computer whatsoever. I've tried starting it both as-is, through d3dwindower and with ddraw wrapper windowed mode. The one thing that gets to me is that about 1/20 times I'm actually able to start the game, and sometimes it can simply be a matter of hours after trying before when it didn't work. In other words, rebooting the computer doesn't seem to help, but just leaving it for a while sometimes does.

Anyone else experienced something similar?

Had the same problem a few times, but was more like it happened one in every hundred times. Dunno why it happened and dunno how to solve it unfortunately. Elma is strange.

its common problem and easy to fix. There are to many levs and recs for elma to scan, so it takes some waiting time. You could start new folders or simply remove manually which is much more work. Or just wait for long startup, don't spam enter.

This usually only happens once after you rebooted pc, then can enter/exit like normal.

I made extra folders called lev2 and rec2 for storing unused stuff.

Actually, it didn't really solve the problem after all.. I moved all levs and recs to another folder, and have tried starting the game with empty lev and rec folders several times since then, and it still freezes almost every time. The only thing that works really is waiting a really long time with the game started, then trying to skip the splash screen.

Try in offline mode and see if it still freezes. If not, it probably has something to do with the connection to the server.

Yea if server is down or such it will usually take a long time from you double click the exe to anything happens and shows on the screen. If that's what you mean there could be some issue with the connection somewhere I guess.

1) Get a clean copy of Elma.
2) Install the latest graphics drivers.
3) Format C: / Reinstall OS.
4) Install the graphics drivers from the CD that came with your graphics card.
5) Change your Internet provider.
6) Change your computer.
7) Stop taking drugs.
8) Come back and say whether the problem persists.
29) ?????
30) Profit!

Do you still having the problem yet? o:
Have you tried a new Elma folder? I mean downloading new eol.exe, eolcfg, bs.dll, etc? Every file.

yes) even with clean EOL install i get the same problem. Whenever elma does decide to work (very rarely), both the clean version and my old copy will work.

Did you reinstall video drivers as Mad said?
Try everything you think can make a change: standard resolution, zoom, your OS resolution...(This is what I would try).
Have you tried Elma 1.2?
Delete ddraw .dll, I cant use EOL with the file on EOL folder...
Did you do any change in your PC before this problem?

*Buy new computer
*Try other cool online game

Yes I have experienced similar, and I do everyday almost. Sometimes when I start elma it takes time, like 10 seconds or more to get through splash screen, and sometimes it's immediate (both examples when computer just started, not after quitted and started elma again).
It feels like elma starts fast if computer has been running for 5mins first. Weird.
And this has been going for maybe half a year now? Before that elma always started quickly.

It's very hard for me to get past the splash screen, but sometimes it will work on the first try right after reboot, and others it will work after a while. For some reason it seems to work better after having played some other game first (It will work more often after playing CS, so perhaps that's because the computer has been running for longer then). 5 minutes or so won't make a difference though, but more like 5 hours.

My problems also started about half a year ago. Did the server change somwehere during late fall or so perhaps? Although playing in offline mode also has the same issues (unless offline mode still tries to connect to the server on start-up..?)

No, offline mode doesn't connect anywhere. When did you install your OS?

2012-10-04, 16:14:39. Windows 7 pro with latest windows updates (perhaps the problem lies there actually).

As for sla's list:

Did you reinstall video drivers as Mad said?: Nops, not yet. Will try soon.
Try everything you think can make a change: standard resolution, zoom, your OS resolution...(This is what I would try): Yes.
Have you tried Elma 1.2?: Nops. Where can I find it?
Delete ddraw .dll, I cant use EOL with the file on EOL folder...: Tried both with and without, same results
Did you do any change in your PC before this problem? Not really, no.

That's interesting. Just out from the blue, are you admin on your pc (I'm sure you are)? But if not, try running it as admin.
Do you have another harddrive? Move elma to another HDD, any difference?
