I like the idea that people don't know who made the levs, cuz otherwise it'd probably be like "omg Juble!!!111!cos(0)" every time

I don't actually enjoy criticizing Juble because he's an extremely chilled out guy and if he was arrogant about his fame it would be different. But I don't find anything too special in his levs anymore, at least not in #battle.

Anyone saying that Juble is the best is living in the past (or they just don't know anything). These days I'd say Jappe2, jp, Rasken and even CMc are the ones making the nice levs. And then you have the gods, skint0r and zebra, though I find theirs to be quite hit-and-miss.

What some people don't accept is that the scene is ever-dynamic, constantly changing, and if you're not on IRC 5 days a week minimum then you're not really in the know. The ultimate Oracle of levels would be jaytea, because with over a thousand levels played every month, he knows every designer pretty damn intimately and is most aware of their styles. I'd like to hear his opinion on this matter, and in fact I have a video on my phone that lasts for half an hour where he just talks about every level designer we could think of.

I still think Juble is max (I never knew he was Australian- maybe when AEM is organised we can meet 0.o)

But I have to agree with you there sierra- CMc is good, and definately Rasken- skint0r, though I get pissed by him, and zebra, are up with Juble for me. 8)

I think battle levels are only a small part of level designing. I know some designers barely make levs for anything else. Too bad not many "normal" levels are actually made. This is why we need LOM to come back!

**off topic**
I know this has nothing to LOM, but #battle levs are like 10-20mins max to make, they are not something to be played for more than the battle time.(since ALE and rlg, people have been putting good quality levels, with/without editor skillz).

**on topic**
Id like to see a new LOM purely to see the new generation of level designers. Maybe enter a level for fun or/and get my arse kicked.
I like the idea of unknown designers, it will add spice. Maybe this is a possibility with paprika when its done.

I wasn't around in 2002 when LOM was, however I've been playing these levs during the years, and most of them are so fun to play! A revival would be really cool, maybe I could make som levels myself =)

why not simply organise it ourselves?

there could be something posted in Advertising, and i'm Sure that Dz, SveinR etc would be more than happy to sticky it.

but of course, i signs the petition.

I have some ideas how LOM could be revived:

First idea: Peer review

Everybody who sents his level to the competition, has to review all the other levels. Otherwise he would be disqualified.
Also anyone who would want just to review the levels, would be given the possibility.
The reviewing would consist of giving grades in the following categories: Visuality, Playability, Originality, Theme, Style variety. In each in the range 0-10. The level with most total points would win. In the reviewing phase, all the levels would be anonymous and you should review your own level too. You would be given a month to design your level and two weeks to review all the levels. You could give also a verbal review but that wouldn't be obligatory in any sense.

Second idea: Mopolauta poll

The poll would be just an ordinary mopolauta poll, where every mopolauta user has one vote. The level with most votes would win. This would be the easiest way of arranging, but the designers wouldn't be given any feedback. In this poll the levels would be anonymous too. Only after the poll the designers and the level names would be revealed.

Third idea: The old system

We gather a jury who will review the levels like in the first idea (above), but the level designers themselves wouldn't be able to review the levels. The problem in this is to get a good jury. In the first idea we wouldn't need a specific jury because the designers would form it by themselves.

In each idea, the theme is chosen by me or some other who would arrange the whole thing and gather the levels.

Comments?

First idea seems very neat. Practically somewhat harder, there would be a lot of mistakes in the first round I guess. Good thing is that everyone stays responsible for it. Downside would be that some people don't want to take part then or will be rating as a stupid ass. I think it's worth taking that risk though.

Probably me Tigro, because I have probably the most comprehensive knowledge of the aesthetics and technical skills involved with creating a real masterpiece of a level. My proved track record has left kuskis in awe of my God-tier skills and left many a hoyla to wipe up after they came in their pants.

You are good zebra. After I play your levels I usually have to clean up with some Kleenex.

Hmm, at least I forgot about the whole competition. I guess there isn't enough interest, so it's better to stop the competition. It feels a bit sad but I guess that's the truth. Thanks anyway Haruhi for arranging this.
