sveinr locks topics too quick

Post by ribot »

why do you do that sveinr? it's unnecessary and destructive work, you know. don't lock, unless you are absolutely sure.

I find I lock too seldom :)

Anyway, if they were locked, the reason was probably:

a) Lots of spam
b) There already existed a thread about the same thing, in which case I normally post a link to the other thread
c) It was totally irrelevant to anything what so ever
d) It contained only talk that was meant to be done in PM

Tell me what threads you found were unjustly locked, and I'll tell you why I locked them.
Was it cast for the mass who burn and toil?
Or for the vultures who thirst for blood and oil?

Because a forums becomes thrash then juski. Do we want that?
If you want that go make up forum for yourself and spam it down to death.

Url 1, a moporator answered the question himself. After that he said he exspected to see this topic gone mad, so he locked it. I can imagine that.
Url 2, sorry but what's this about? Even if it is sensible, you know the answer how long this could go on, when the moporator locks it.

In both cases you've been treated well.

And it is true that I post spam topics. I am also one of those that must look out to talk not thrash sometimes. We need a moporator to tell us that.

There are topics where you can talk practically about anything, there's no need to create a new topic for it every week.

I prefer to talk much shit in #across. But sometimes you want to say things to people who aren't on irc that time. So I shittalk in lauta. But once some n00bs come in who like to practically never do anything than writing useless posts, then it comes in handy to lock stuff.

if you'd seen some of the message boards i've seen you'd be happy that they have such strict rules here on the 'lauta

but we have a non-elma related discussion forum...so surely everything is ok in there?
Anyway, IRC isnt always a good way to talk. I rarely go on there and when I do either people start talking in Swedish or theres no-one talking anyway...at least here you know people will read it and you can talk directly to people whenever you whane...

But yeah, Ive seen a lot of forums go to shit because of off topicness, so the rules are good. But maybe when people want to go off topic they should just start a new thread. And then if its already been done someone can lock it and post link...

For me, as for activity lauta is like 1/10 compared to #across which would be like 9/10.

Ehhmm...Ok, as someone has said:

If you've ever been to a forum where there are no rules, and where people can do what they want, you'd easily see why that is a very bad idea. Most probably you'd leave the forum after a while. I did, and I know of several, perhaps hundreds, who have (on one particular forum).

And the lauta doesn't really have that strict rules. As I see it, it's one of the more liberal forums of those who actually bothers to have general rules for everyone to follow. Not many topics get locked, not many users get banned, no posts get deleted, and quite an amount of shit talk is allowed. If you don't believe me, go and visit a couple of semi-big forums for a while.

Its true, hes right.
Lauta has survived for a long time, and Im sure its partly, maybe mostly due to its easy going rules. Its nto hard to come here and post something.
SveinR might lock some things too fast, but in general the rules are pretty good...or bad...I dunno, but theyre just right anyway
