National Holidays

Post by zworqy »

Now on friday, June 6, it's Swedens national holiday. Hooray!
*hums Swedens national anthem* :P

Some other national holidays i know:

Norway - May 17
Finland - December 5 (i think)
USA - July 4
France - July 14

Fill up the list, and tell us your country's traditions (if any).

Of course you have one, your country did get independent one day I reckon..

(although Norway's 17th May is not Norway's independence day..)
Was it cast for the mass who burn and toil?
Or for the vultures who thirst for blood and oil?

Hmm...IMO that's the same thing..or, it depends what you were liberated from of course, and..blah I'm not sure anymore :/ Norway has a liberation day on April 8th (from the Germans), but still June 7th is our "real" liberation and independence day, cause then we became an independent country..blaah I'm talking rubbish :/

Just to make things clear: Swedens national holiday is NOT an independence day. Sweden has never been taken over since it was created some 1000 years ago.

who the hell cares anyway? Hurray! Today like 500 years ago Gustav Vasa became king in sweden!!121

I bet 99,9% of the people who "celebrate" this day don't even know that.

I would take that bet. If you know it and your mom does and your brother knows it and your father knows it as well there need to be 3996 "celebraters" around you who do not know it.

No, igge is an idiot. Sure, the date 6th June was chosen because Gustav Vasa became king then, but that's not what we're celebrating. We are celebrating SWEDEN, nothing else.

In Canada I think it's July 1st, but in Quebec, the holiday (and it is celebrated quite a lot) is on June 24th. Saint-Jean Baptiste!
