People who use Mopolauta, but not IRC

Post by dz »

I was just wondering why are you not using IRC (#across) ?
For example zworqy, he's often here and I've never seen you at #across, why is that ?

Simple, it's because I only have a 56kbps modem. If I get a faster (and constant) connection I might try it.

And I don't have that much to say, really.

My guess is that he means it is too slow

I dont use it that often because nothing ever really happens when I do go on...

Exactly my point. You need a constant connection to go there often enough to make anything useful out of it, right?
(And to do without blocking the phone line)

irc doesnt really eat bandwidth, needs like 1kb/s every 10 seconds or something.

I wouldn´t say you _need_ a constant connection. A lot off ppl with modems are at #across. And one thing that you really miss out on concerning elma is battles, these days there are battles around the clock. Check "battles" under News, omg 24 battles in one day yesterday, you don't need to stay long to catch at least one of those!

I can't really use that at home... if I ever do internet at home it's for about max 5 minutes... The comp with internet is tooooo slow, and also slow connection... Elma with about 10 fps... not a power-computer...

Seems like some of you might think IRC requires something from your computer/internet connection.. well, just so you know it doesn't require practically anything. You can use it with 50mhz computer or with 14.4kbps modem and should not have major problems at all. It takes practically zero bandwith.

ye but just hanging in #across isn't always that fun.. eg when nothing happens... if I would have IRC on a comp i could sit on all day long, I would be there.. but now I can't.. (a slow copmuter can't do anything else)

I save a lot of time not going on IRC nowadays. Oh those days where I sat at 6 in the morning chatting with sveinr about silly things. Been there, done that. Enough's enough. But it was great, I admit. Especially oldskool battle. Secret höyläs and stuff. Markku waiting for 10sec till end with superb time. alt-tabbing in and out to check if time's still leading or beaten. =D hanging out in #mopokuskis. Oh that shit was far out.
