gold: 13 silver: 9 bronze: 13 total: 35

this must be one of the best olymics ever for aus

anyways.... china, usa and japan have a way bigger population...say if new zeland won 3 gold medals, its better than usa winning 15 gold medals, coz of the gold medal/population ratio. :o ...thats my opinion though!

I thought there lived 22 million people there in kangarooland. I find it very good from Germany to still stand high while some years there this country didn't even exist! Together with just germany and west and east germany it would've been much more medals and higher ranking.

Amazing of Eirik Verås Larsen; getting Gold and Bronze over the course of one hour.

Yay Australia got 4th...
Someone recently told me that the medal tally ranking is roughly proportional to GDP per capita, and has little to do with population. I think this is almost right, except for China. Culture would also play a part in deciding how much money is spent on sport. Japan obviously spent alot more money on sport in the last 4 years, they got 11 more gold than in Sydney and moved from 15th to 5th.

Don't you think the way they calculate the medal lists are wrong? The ones with the most golds go first, only if some countries has the same amount golds they look how many silvers and bronze a country got.

If they counted like Gold = 3 points, Silver = 2 and Bronze = 1 and added that together it would be much more fair.

I'd rather 1 gold over 1 silver + 1 bronze; what about Gold=0.75, Silver=0.2, and Bronze=0.05? That way gold is still very important, and the medal list pretty much stays the same, but for example Latvia (4s) would be beating Ireland (1g) and equal to Israel (1g,1b). This is equivalent to g=15, s=4, b=1.

Well, there are two official lists. The one based on medals, and the one based on points.

after about 30km your body gets really fucked up, and especially after he's been running 36km at a faster pace than most people can sprint 1km, being grabbed by some mongo would definitely fuck him up enough to lose two places

It would yes. But having not being pushed away would have fucked him up anyway when others took over his place with just running faster at the last km's.
