Here's an old thread about ddr, about arcade/dancepads/mats though, if youre talking about keyboard playing here.
If you nat know yet, Stepmania is an open source Dance Dance Revolution simulator for PC (windows/linux) or mod-chipped xbox. It simulates Pump It Up, ParaParaParadise and EZ2Dancer as well, but finding controllers or stepfiles for these is hard. Basicly its quite elma-like with big community, "internals" (official mixes) and external packs (for both feet and keyboard) and hoyling for high score. Unlike elma, theres a known maximum score, but its not so ez anyways.
The program itself is free but doesnt include any stepfiles (levels), these you have to download yourself. The official mixes ("level packs") from arcade DDR aren't legal but are available as torrents from here and there.
I started with ddr games and dancemat for ps2 about a year ago but didnt play it long, got to finish quite many 9-foot songs which is still quite noob in the scene. Might start playing again now when theres a Dancing Stage Fusion machine in town, or so I've heard.
With keyboard played stepmania I'm also quite average (about same level with Stini) if compared to the super players. I play mostly for fun, not records, but decent results (judge 5, marvelous off) are not unusual with the keyboard pack stepfiles.
Some good packs are: (cant remember urls, google teh or search torrents etc)
Arch0wl Keyboard Mega Pack
Community Keyboard Megapack
Keyboard Collaboration
Its easier to start practicing with the official mixes, though they are designed to be played with feet.

I used to believe in many things, all of it! Now, I believe only in dynamite.

I've played StepMania almost for a year now and I consider myself an average player. I play mainly 10-feet songs or higher. Most of the official DDR-stepfiles are just too easy for keyboard playing (of course not at first) and therefore I play mainly the stepfiles from Keyboard Megapack, Community Keyboard Megapack I and Keyboard Collaboration I, which psy already mentioned (I hope those links work). I've also downloaded some random stepfiles from Bemanistyle.com. Sometimes I check the forum at Flash Flash Revolution (mainly Brag Board) to see some sick scores and videos.
Private message me man....i only had 69 i think mark got 99% on his exammobking16 wrote:stepmania? explain, and what did u finish with in history?

k I just have to say, this game is slowly taking over my elma activity
I'm getting better and as a result, want to play it more...I can beat super fast stuff (faster than Stini) but his timing is still far better than mine...
I think my hardest passed song was like 15 or 16 feet now so I have improved a LOT....ps Stini I almost AAAd Ageha and I AAAd Quasar (I'm pretty sure before u too haha)
