How is your nick pronounced?

Post by zworqy » 12 Oct 2002, 22:12

So, how do you pronounce your nick?

Sometimes it's obvious, 'cause the nick is your real name or very short, like; Chris Penrose, dz, BarTek and others. But usually it's not. Mine's not as hard as it might seem: "swor-ky".

Some examples:
Abula - is it "aboola", "ei-bula", "ah-bula" or something else?
ribot - is it "raibut", "ribbot" or what?
csybe - "saib" or "saibi"?

Or maybe you don't want your nick to be pronounced at all?

Hey zworqy, I was thinking of a similar topic because when I look at people's nicks, I think of all the possibilities. Such as Abula I just say Uh-Buu-La but then I think about it and realize that might not be correct.

And ribot, I usually say rye-bot in my head. but then it could be like a froggy "ribbot"

anyways mine is easy "Deh-Vin" Not too difficult (the "De" in my name sounds like the De in dead incase the Deh not make any sense to you.)

Im also called DevOnte pronounced Deh-Von-Tey.

Antz is just ants (the little 6legged ppl) with a little bit of zettish in the s. i've always thought that ribot is the froggish. dz = [dee][zee] sayed quickly => dizzy. i say abula just [abula] (a:s like in the word dark, u like o in doom, both just the length of 1 letter)

Actually mrickx told about one czech guy who once said "jeep" to mrickx and then mrickx "what, who?" and the guy had to descripe "That crazy swedish hoyla with flat track WR."

Have you heard ciph, krychek or BarTek's talking? They list people in those. I think you find them on GuyB's site, someone digs the link. I could record one clip too, saying the nicks in Finnish.

And anyway, somebody was alredy using that brilliant nick.
How do u want other ppl to pronounce ur name?
I just say [-d-][-z-]! haha how funny!

Maybe i should use my CS name: mzrt.
i also use mt, but that would be to... dz-wannabe! So maybe i should use

ribot is pronounced like robot, but with an i. not ryebot, nor reebot, just a short "e" sound. i thought the simulated frog sound is ribbit or ribbut.

csybe is sibe or sykbe but well u just say whatever u want.

abula is a funny nick, cos i have been thinking it for years without ever saying it, then one day when i said it i couldnt pronounce it like i do in my head. but i say it like abyula

ribot, now that you mention it, I have never spoken Abula's name aloud yet.

That brings me to another thought, when you guys are at meetings (or just talking in person) do you use their nicks or their first names?

Sorry ribot for any offense of me speaking your name wrong in my thoughts. I will now call thee robot.

ramone... if you cant understand how this is pronounced I´d clear it up for you... I had to choose a nick... I sat and stareed at a frame (on the wall) and frame in swedish is "ram"... but that was too short.. so I looked to my left and saw another frame (ram) but the 1st one looked nicer.... ram-one.... but ramone seemed nicer... and so it would look like a name I wrote it with big r (R) = Ramone :D

later on I changed to ramone (dont know why, it has nothing to do with the fact that psymorph only used small letters :wink: )

Once someone told me there was a band named Ramones and that the members were named like xxx Ramone... that was pretty cool... I dont know if they are any good though.
:?

ram is pronouinced with a long "A" raam, one is pronounced like if you say... 1 2 3 4....
well.. not 234.. but just so you would get the picture.. it was the 1st frame that was nicer if forgot... one... kinda whann or waunn
raam-waunn
most important is that you dont pronounce it in one... but like two words.. like a double name...

Understand?
if not... please ppm me... I can tell more exact

you got me wrong, or maybe i wrote it in a wrong way ("they're not any good anymore"), i didn't mean it like that, i just wanted to point out that they are gone. and oh yeah, you really tricked me by saying "Once someone told me there was a band named Ramones and that the members were named like xxx Ramone... that was pretty cool... normally it would be like monkey

when i show poeple at school they mostly prounounce it mon(rhyming with gone) k-eye

eh, it's just a made up name

I can't even look at the name Chuckles without impulsively wanting to hit something :? but I'm sure he's actually a perfectly nice chap (it's cuz you're english, ok? :D)...

dz = dee-zed
abula = ab-you-la
ramone = ram-own
Jeppe = yeppeeee, or yep
other than those, i try to say names like they're supposed to be said :D

You got 3 out of 4 "wrong" there.

Dz - Hard to tell. Maybe just dezz, like it was before, maybe d - z, or maybe something else.... but I don't think it's deh zed....

Abula - The -u is probably more like an -o. Ah-Booh-Lah, with rather short syllables.

Ramone - That's right I guess.

Jeppe - Ieh-Peh or something like that. The J is a bit like an -i, but not excactly. Wooh, that looked strange written down.
