catching fire is in my top-tier watchlist, but i am kinda sceptical to that, because the books werent my cup of tea... actually the first book was ok, second was only like a transition into third and third was pure bullshit. so i hope the film wil ne at least worth watching... (i am sure it will be, Jennifer Lawrence mmm...). but why the hell are they gonna make the last book into teo movies? oh, i see, money!

Just watched UP (2009) again. The silent "story of their life" in the beginning almost made me burst into tears, so awesome. I give it an 8/10, really good Pixar piece.

As well as Underworld: Evolution (2006): 3/10 I would give 1/10 if there was no Kate.

gravity - 4/10

Randomly watched yesterday with frend, looked very generic and uninspired. Occasionaly movik tried to force suspension on me with booms and flashy explosions, but failed miserably, and few unrealistic hapenings and an unfitting character behaviour didn't help. Main character is dificult to relate too, she was kinda holow and facepalmik all the tim. Might hav as well watched with sounds off as a screensaver.

suprised at John liking it that much, maby need to be more of a visual man to apreciat the visual art of this piec, which this movie is strongest at. but imo everytink else lacks anyway.

Sorry to hear that anpdad. I don't know why I liked it that much, perhaps my interest in astronomy and space flight boosted the rating. It was also a fresh movie unlike most stuff I've seen. Even though it looks great I would definitely not call myself a "visual man", in fact my friends at work make jokes about me only watching french dramas because of my disgust towards movies like Transformers and Pacific Rim among a lot of others. My girlfriend happens to love movies like that though, takes forever to find movies to watch at home.

Robocop (2014) - 4/10
Philomena - 6/10
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty - 6/10
Frost - 7/10
The Crash Reel - 6/10

Philomena not Oscars worthy. "Let it go" from Frost deserves Oscar for best song although U2's "Ordinary Love" from Mandela not that bad either.

John, I guess by "Frost" you mean Frozen, don't you?

Just watched The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and I give a 6, a decent one, closing to 7, for sticking to the book really well, i'd say like 95%, which is really rare. It wasn't anything really overwhelmingly breathtaking, however, <3 Jennifer rises my ranking up a bit. Even I didn´t like the story of the books and the books themselves, as the film I guess guys did a pretty good job, maybe I will even like this at the end. ("looking forward to 2-part last book. meh, these marketing tricks")

This forced me to watch Frozen, so I did!
I loathe movies which are musicals. HOWEVER, this motion picture was somehow different and really enjoyable for me. Considering the target audience, animation work, plot, sound and music, I have to say that this deserves an oscar. I was really owerwhelmed.
Spoiler
about that plot, it is pretty basic and common, which doesn't make any troubles about children watching in, and the thing I REALLY liked was, that there was no true love's kiss at the end, as everyone was expecting, but a different act of love. This skyrocketed my plot rating in this movie.
/Spoiler

Did you notice the very similarity with the Tangled movie? It´s rather very similar, just merge Anna and Elsa into Rapunzel, change Kristoff into Flynn, Olaf into Pascal, Hans into Rapunzel's mom, Sven into that horse, change ice into sun and Frost tower into Rapunzel's tower and you have a completely different, but really very similar story :)
Thus I give really cool (wow, cool!) 8/10.

Watched Blue Jasmine as well, the role Cate has played was really well-done, she is a lady actress. 7/10 deserved.

12 Years a Slave: 7/10 As John said: Good, but not as good as expected. Considering loads of white man / black man films I have already seen, there weren´t many new things here, but screenplay was really good. Especially I like scenes which last like 2 minutes (e.g. the long long scene when he was hanged from the tree trying not to suffocate.)

Leave the World Behind - 7/10
Don't know why it isn't possible to vote. Anyway, nice movie about the last tour that Swedish House Mafia ever made before their break up. We get to follow them around the world and get to know the 3 DJs that make up the trio. Nice footage and plenty of concert material but despite of the 1h35m running time it felt quite long.

honest trailers YT channel called the whole movie as "music video to let it go" :D so basically yeah, i guess it is a song nobody can dislike. :)

I watched some anime stuff lately, so:
Spirited Away: 8/10 great Miyazaki piece.
Howl´s moving castle: 6/10 I´d like to give more, because amazing graphics and stuff, but the plot was kind of ununderstandable for me, like, things just... happen, and i have no idea why.

In Time (2011): 4/10 LoLoL Justin Timberlake :) actually the idea itself is nice, but thats all.

Nothing happened. Weird shit that I doubt is in the bible was added. Noah was a lunatic. Not interesting story or dialogue. Movie trying to be epic but fails. Bad CGI, bad acting. Hermione was in it, couldn't take Watson seriously, not that Logan actor either. Maybe I was too harsh but it deserves nothing higher than a 2/10 still. From the trailer it looks somewhat interesting so was disappointed.

The Notebook (2004) 9/10 Really moving film, I enjoyed the whole of it. I call myself a non-romance lover, but this romatic film was really exceptional for me. Masterfully done.
The Godfather (1972) 9/10 Great movie as well, I like the old-school 2,5 hours long movies, it feels so sick! :) I read the book like 6 years ago, so I was recognising names and plot only vaguely, but after all, I have to say it sticked to the book really very well. Great experience watching this mafioso film. It's just a classic.
Sucker Punch (2011) 6/10 I was about to give it 4 or maybe 5 in the middle of the film, where it seems like the only thing is some graphics and nice babydoll, and then BAM! Sucker punch right into the face actually, I expected something similar to happen at the end, reminded me of DiCaprio and Shutter island with all this lobotomy and stuff, I felt so disgusted from it, like whole rest of the day, so I give 6.

The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014) - 8-9/10

I wanted to go see some movie to cinema and hadn't even heard of this one but it seemed like only watchable movie at the time so I decided to take a risk. While the movie was very eccentric it was totally new and original and I ended up loving every moment of it. For a comedy movie this was very interesting and the type of humor was very new to me; might even be the first one of its kind.
If you are interested, check out the actors of this movie instead of the trailer, that should be enough said :)

Her (2013): 4/10
I really expected much more, disappointed for this, not worth that 4 € I gave to watch it.
Absolutely transparent. I was able to tell the end after 20 mins of watching.
Too much erotic for me. (yeah there weren't direct sex scenes, whatever, but somehow I don't think this is a proper for a kinematography.)
I can get over the dumbness of that concept, at all, but I still consider it wicked.
Won't watch it again, definitely not.

Maybe the only thing I like was Scarlett Johansson's voice. Really sweet. (O.K. and Olivia Wilde as well)

Gravity - 8/10

I really liked it! Had very low expectations because people had been telling me how much they disliked it. Maybe that's a contributing factor to my liking, but from an objective point of view, I really thought it was well made. The opening scene made me feel very uncomfortable and I like movies that capture your emotions!

spoiler:
When sandra bullock was spinning out into space, panicking I totally felt the panic myself and my heart was beating hard, I had goospumps and my eyes were filling up. Such a good scene with the music and everything!

Hi o,o It's been ages, but what motivated me to post here is

Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (1984) - 10/10

I'm listening to the main theme now again and I'm literally in tears!!! One of the very few most wonderful films I've ever seen :) THANKS JOHN, MUCH LOVE! I probably wouldn't even start to watch these anime masterpieces without your recommendation :)

The best of the rest (that I've seen since the last post):

Apocalypse Now (1979) - 10/10
The Shining (1980) - 10/10
Life Is Beautiful (1997) - 10/10

Platoon (1986) - 9/10
The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014) - 9/10
In the Name of the Father (1993) - 9/10
Gravity (2013) - 9/10
Gladiator (2000) - 9/10
Frozen (2013) - 9/10
In Bruges (2008) - 9/10

The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) - 8/10
The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) - 8/10
Love Actually (2003) - 8/10
My Left Foot (1989) - 8/10
Ponyo (2008) - 8/10
American Hustle (2013) - 8/10
Saving Mr. Banks (2013) - 8/10
Mary Poppins (1964) - 8/10
Reservoir Dogs (1992) - 8/10
City of God (2002) - 8/10
Captain Phillips (2013) - 8/10
State of Play (2009) - 8/10
Pigs (1992) - 8/10
V for Vendetta (2005) - 8/10
The Godfather (1972) - 8/10
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007) - 8/10
The Ghost (2010) - 8/10

It's been a while... :D Also, I totally agree with guys on The Notebook, I shed tears too!

Damn, I'd watch Nausicaä again now if I didn't have to leave...

Hey Pawq, you're welcome, glad you like Studio Ghibli movies. Although I have to admit Nausicaä might be one of my least favorite Ghiblis, it's too dark and serious :) Same with Princess Mononoke.

Nice ratings the rest there, quite much like my taste with a few exceptions.

Which ones are the exceptions, if I may ask?

Also, the thing is that I found it a little hard to cope with all the "weirdness" during the first few films. It looks like it took me those 3-4 films to get over it, but now I feel like I'm used to it and can finally enjoy the films as they should be enjoyed :) So I'm planning to rewatch those that I've already seen quite soon, and hopefully appreciate them even more this time :) One thing for sure, I'm in love with Joe Hisaishi's soundtracks!
