My Piano Composition

Post by A.K.B. »

Finished composing an entire section of my first Piano Sonata.

MIDI: http://rapidshare.com/files/142826195/f ... y.mid.html

PDF: http://rapidshare.com/files/142826350/F ... y.pdf.html

Please have feedback etc. But please enjoy, this will probably be the middle section of my sonata. What could be done to improve? What bits were really nice? (please reference bar numbers)

Anyone think they could play it?

if it's you that made it, grats. but it's just simple shit, similar to czerny, that you learn in your first year.

and noone's gonna play dickenson, you realize, right?

ps: i really doubt you created it...

Lol nony, I did make it. What proof would you need?

Anyway, it's actually extremely difficult, probably closer to the Amus standard for performance, considering the many crossovers whilst needing to actually voice clearly the lower note. The left hand needs to be very constant and strong to acheive a good performance, and care needs to be taken in the parts with complex and nested tuplets.

btw nony, you play piano? Awesome! conservatory? grades? any recordings would be sick if it's easy.

Small section fixed:

c'mon nony, would be awesome.

wow, yeah the lower key patterns are quite nice, perhaps a little repetitive, i think for some reason the higher register playing seems a little bit... can't describe it... like there's an extra flat needed in the key or something.

but otherwise... incredibly nice.

Nice composition, AKB. I have made some piano songs myself too, but it's many years ago.

About your song, it's pretty ok, though the lower hand is a bit repetitive as smaxa said. It's like left hand etyde. And there are some unplayable parts like bars 38 and 72. Many others maybe too. I might try to play this some day. The computer generated midi file is so machine-like it doesn't sound so nice...

i started playing piano at 5 and stopped long time ago, when i was (probably) your age. no real school for it, just 10-12hours/week with private teacher and lots more by myself for concerts. now my piano is at home, at my parents' house. i will probably buy one and start again singing when i'll have my own place to live in.

about your song: there are easy parts, like the ones i used to play when warming up combined with some complicated parts. that gave me the feeling that it looks like something copied from diverse schumann, czerny or whatever song creator like that (i'm very bad at the english terms for piano). also i feel that there are too many things (flats and other shits that make me nervous i don't know their names) next to the notes, that not only take away playability, but also can sound weird. i'll be honest, some i have never ever seen, though i played a lot in my time.
anyway, knowing to play the piano is already a very beautiful thing to do so, again, grats!

Re: My Piano Composition

Yeah, as you can see I am very amateur. (VERY VERY) At composition, and my sonata won't be completely astounding as anything you will play from the major composers, but I want to incorporate beautiful simple melodies into bigger more growing things.

I wish to be great at it someday, but I can only grow musically to acheive it, I must start from somewhere. :)

btw. 38 is definitely possible, though coordination is needed, play each set of notes as a rolling chord, working on starting the next chord as one finishes, and 72 just takes a lot of accuracy, I managed to play it at metronome tempo at school, it looks ridiculous (and is terrible musically I guess- it's not finalized as a part of the sonata) but I wanted something outrageous to start the repeat.

zebra, maybe some help for the harmony, suggestions? Or leave it? I'm thinking that when I get the entire sonata finalized It'll be a lot different from completely flowing semiquavers.

also: did you enjoy the repeat, introducing new notes to the melody?

To nony: I really hadn't heard of czerny, and only known very little of schumann before you mentioned it (I should study a lot more) and had never seen music of either :S

btw. I really, really love the key of B, it's my sonata key (but the very end will change to F-Sharp Minor) possibly other keychanges as well..

concerts must've been max, just school concerts? or max important paid shit? eitherway, megagratz, wish to get to that stage.

czerny: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carl_Czerny
i used to have 2, 3 books by him which i played for warming up, each of different difficulties.
schumann: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Schumann
he had some short pieces - at least what my books contained - very vivace, most of them.

anyway, i guess everyone learns what his teacher tells him to. i'm not saying some are better and some worse, it's just what i had back in the 90s in romania.

heh I can play teh too :P tried to practice playing songs by just listen and learn. took some time but not the hardest song to play by ear.
nice playing =) but why the whole song? playing by notes? coz impsy play all of those verses just to play em ^^ or maybe you are playing while listening to the song =)

Recorded one demo/sketch of a groove me band and I made.
Gonna be max song when finished xD and with whole band: bass, guitar/mandolin and maybe drums if we orka teh

bear in mind that this is just for me to remember and also to see how it sounds. I think the quality is quite max, it was recorded with some max dictaphone i borrowed from my uncle.

piano starts at 00:27 I think. Don't have any program to edit it with atm.

I made another composition, unfinished, as you can tell from the end, and with many keychanges, it's odd and uses two themes (so boring) but I tried to make it a little interesting. It's for orchestra, though I scored the original for duet piano.

added sach to it, keeping the annoying progression ofcor.

imo i wrote this with film in mind, and i like the resolution at the end (a tone lower than starting key)

I am nearly finished the proper orchestral score, so bleh. Until then, download scorch and listen to some groovy tango fantasie I made: http://www.sibeliusmusic.com/cgi-bin/sh ... eid=136965

browse perhaps my profile for some extra stuffs (my most popular is A Lonely Moment) remembering there is plenty more in the works, just they sux at the moment and need moar work.
