Thought I would use an existing topic that had some relevance to my request. I'm gonna put together a desktop and could probably use some advice as I haven't tried this before and haven't really followed hardware trends. I've been using this as a loose guide (is this any good or should I not use it?) and have been looking to do something a bit like the excellent category in that guide. I want a computer that can handle music and video editing well and play atleast the newest games as of right now, but I don't really have a need for it being a gamer pc per se, as I will most likely just want to try a couple new games and go back to elma.

So I'm thinking something like this:
Samsung SpinPoint F3 Desktop Class HD103SJ 1 TB
Corsair Enthusiast Series TX650 V2
ZOTAC GeForce GTX 560 Ti OC (1 GB)
i3 or i5 processor
MSI P67A-G45 (B3)
some 4gb ram

With the psu I'm quite confused if I should get something like this Corsair or if an old Cooler Master RS-450-ACLY I have lying around might be able to get the job done, or if I should get something inbetween.
And to be honest I'm not really sure if I need this good a gfx card or how strong a processor I need. What I want is a reasonably priced (around the pricerange of these parts=650-700e, or cheaper) computer that should be able to last me for quite some years but still with possibilities for upgrading down the line.

My 2 cents

I would choose i5 rather than i3.
An nvidia graphics card is always a good investment (more and more algorithms are executed on GPU if it's available, and NVidia is the best in this field), but i don't know if it will fit the budget you aim.

The card he has there is an nvidia (geForce = nvidia)
ez go with i5 yeah
You can easily go with 8gb ram, quite cheap these days and 4 is not too much these days if you do heavy multitasking or videoediting etc.
The 450watt in your old psu might be a bit on the small side, so I would go with something around those 650 as you have selected.
If you don't plan to do much gaming and wanna save some, you can surely find some cheaper gpu that will still be able to run current games well, 3 years since I bought one so not really up to date on what's good though (and that one still doing hd video editing and the few games I play perfectly well).
But you can check some charts on sites like tomshardware to find others that are performing as well or a little worse and see if they're cheaper(same for cpu).

A nice addiction now or down the line could be some ssd for the os and programs.

Thanks totem and kopaka!

I will go for the i5 and perhaps get a less fancy gpu. An ssd has to wait as does a new monitor, which I really should get to accompany the purchase. Good to hear I'm not totally off track. I might return with more questions when I actually feel ready for going through with this.

I wonder how much money I need to get a pretty good computer that can play atleast WoW at it's best graphic and stuff. If it's over 600E-700E (some 6k SEK-7k SEK) I will buy something less good. But I wonder how good I can get for about 600 E

You dont require especially powerful cpu to play wow with reasonable graphics. 3gb ram and any gfx card 512mb+ should do fine. If you intend to do seriously heavy raiding however its another matter.

Without going into specifics but an HD6950 2gb gfx card may still give you lag (50fps) when everyone is nuking at the same time in a 25-mam if your settings are maxed, depending on raid environment graphics. Think nvidia is generally better for wow compared to ATI (was some spreadsheet about it on mmo-champion a while back).

Based on what you want when it comes to gaming, you might well choose a cheaper GPU, however this model seems to follow your budget quite well. I bought my components about 10 months ago so I'm not completely up-to-date, but I chose the prequel to this model, the GTX460. From reading a review, the GTX560 seems like very good value-for-money and one of the best buys right now, in addition to it being able to keep up for several years I should think. If you care about noise it seems you might want to look at some other manufacturers than ZOTAC though, and also, you'll save around 40 euros by going for the standard, non-Ti version.

Like the others have mentioned I'd surely go for 8GB RAM at this point. Just make sure the RAM you choose has been tested with the motherboard! And like the others say, I'd much rather go for i5 than i3.

WoW works at full fps/settings with a 2000 graphics card and a 1995 computer setup :P

OK price when Windows is included I guess. But the graphics card isn't very good for gaming.

The problem with an ad like that is that they don't say anything about the type of RAM you get (how fast it is, and what manufacturer. Also how many modules there are), neither does it say anything about the hard drive (again, the speed. You'd want a 7200rpm hard drive for OS and games, not 5400rpm). Also you don't know anything about the motherboard so you don't know how suitable it will be for upgrades.

Still, I'm sure you'll get a much better PC that what you've already got, but it could have been better, particularly in the graphics department. Have you ordered it yet?

How about ordering one from www.komplett.se? They will build one for you, using the components you specify.

I'll just buy some cheap car somehow when 18+, or else I'll just keep taking the bus.
If wanna get to teh city and things that are 5km+ I either walk or get on bus no need for any scooter. :)
And ofc I don't want it too since I am not that interested in those kinda things.

When I traded up from Intel P4 (HT) to Q9550 (Quad), SuperPI went through 10 times faster, also video encoding about the same.
Should also consider the invested new MOBO, RAM ones etc, this was like more than 3 years ago though. Soon time for a new upgrade!
