Best Game World Cup 2009 (Updated! Now with Matchup's)

Welcome! i decided to be the nabfuck to make the thread we all wanted so badly.

this will be a different setup to the movie world cup (only slightly) - instead of 96 contestants, hopefully we will be able to come up with a list of either the 128 or 64 best games EVER MADE - these can be anything - from PacMan to Killzone 2, to the infamous "Brians horny antics" - otherwise known as 'Atari Porn'

alongside this, i am hoping we can develop a greater understanding of what is and isn't worth playing, and even what consoles were simply... better than the rest.

we all know that no matter what, Elma is the greatest game ever, so now that's out of the way, suggest what you believe deserve to be on the list - the best games ever created.

The rounds will be a series of Elimination rounds, when possible i'll also try to pit games up against games of the same genre (FPS against FPS, Strategy against Strategy etc.)

last year, the squad at IGN decided to compile a list of the top 100 games in they're staff's opinion (you can find it Here) - hopefully this will give you some ideas if you are unable to do this yourself.

although i don't think its the best game ever, i have got the most joy out of the original Halo. Wen it first came out, close friends/relatives would have System Link Ups atleast twice a week and continued to do so for atleast 3 more years. Even had a 16 player a couple of times, which was just chaos. Will never forget those gatherings, hilarious. Still catchup and do it these days, but very rarely.

recently, i've been looking around for oldschool games/consoles. a shop here sell refurbished NES consoles for $150AU ($90US?) and $70 (45~US) just for Super Metroid. total rip off, ebay's my only bet.
