imho this championship before quarterfinal matches: 1. Russia, 2. Canada, 3. Sweden, with Norway playing surprisingly good. i'd rather want sweden in semi :S

NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs start soon, personally I'm rooting for Ducks.

Some thoughts:

- Wild : Blackhawks is pretty much locked for Chicago, they clinched the president's trophy and have been hot all season.
- Red Wings : Ducks is going to be difficult. If Getzlaf and Perry keep playing seriously, it should be possible for the Ducks to win. Selänne and Koivu probably can't keep up that well with the young guns any more, key players for the team though.
- Islanders : Penguins is definitely going to be one sided. Pittsburgh has an incredibly deep roster, many great acquisitions throughout the seasons including Jussi Jokinen who really upped his game and filled Crosbys slot nicely. Now that Crosby is back they have one the best current all-round players.

It's going to be a very exciting month to follow, the World Championships is going to start on Friday as well.

Raanta was on fire, nice debut to the big games. Best goalie of the Finnish elite league and a shutout in his first game here, ei vettä Raantaa rakkaampaa.

Best game of the tournament so far for us, it's just that we don't have the necessary goalscoring power/efficiency/accuracy/you name it. Something that's been discussed for a long time and seems like it won't be improved in the near future.

Oh my god, Finland - Russia was an incredible hockey game! Unbelievable team play from Finns and Raanta certainly kept us up in the 3rd period although the refs tried their best to screw us over. Kovalchuk is a faggot, straight punch and 5+20. Even after this Ruskis had an empty net and 6 players on ice, u wot?

Edit: Apparently Pesonen also got 5+20 so that explains it. The worst referee game in this tournament by far.

Lucky game for Sweden. Swiss team seemed to be teh only one in this tournament with consistently good play. Downhill started from an unlucky 2+10 for Ambühl, steepened from a shit goal (3-1) from offside (which nobody noticed :S) and I guess pretty hard to climb back up from teh. Just ugly bouncy lucky goals for Sweden.

/bitter as fuck :D

"In ice hockey, a play is offside if a player on the attacking team enters the attacking zone before the puck does, unless the puck is sent or carried there by a defending player. "

Well, this according to wikipedia. It was not an offside, the player himself carried the puck over the blue line and the puck was sent to the position by a defending player.

But yes, still there has been some really shitty referee action recently.

edit: nvm, didn't know this: "An attacking player's skates may precede the puck into the attacking zone provided he is in control of the puck"

Oooooh yeah, baby!

New NHL season starts October 8th, get stoked! Personally I will be following the Florida Panthers mostly because of Aleksander Barkov. He had his rookie season cut off short last year due to injuries, but now it looks like this guy is ready to do all he can to please the pensioners in Florida :D

Of course, the team has been in the dumps and have gotten some serious top picks for the last couple seasons: Barkov 2013 and Aaron Ekblad 2014. Jussi Jokinen and Sean Bergenheim are in Florida as well so it's looking pretty good in my eyes.

Go Panthers!

Always stoked when the new NHL season starts, especially now as many young Finns (Barkov, Granlund(s), Määttä, Ristolainen etc) are making strides to be even better players. Will Petteri Lindbohm surprise everyone and crack the St. Louis roster? Will Lehterä be as good as advertised? Will Komarov be the top hitter this season? Will Rask win Vezina?

So yeah, I don't have a particular favorite team that I root for: mostly just teams with Finns in their roster. Minnesota Wild and Florida Panthers are probably the most sympathetic teams.

Määttä was incredibly good last year, how can he top that performance? Predicting Norris trophy for him. Mikael Granlund said that he is now ready to play for Minnesota 100 % every night and has accustomed to the league finally. It's going to be very interesting to follow these players and teams indeed.
