I slept almost 11 hours. Yesterday I slept like almost 10 hours, the day before 9. Last week same days I slept like 4, 5 and 6 hours. Strange days.

I ranked first in Quebec in a math contest this year, and probably second or such in another one. I got a grade of 58/60 when people usually get around 5-20. On the sheet with the questions it was written that it was perfectly normal if we weren't able to answer all six questions, and not to be discouraged if we could only answer 2 or 3 questions, that a really good student could answer around four, and blah blah blah... I pwned everything :)

Link: http://newton.mat.ulaval.ca/amq/ (in French), my name is Gabriel Girard, you'll see me on the front page, they say congratulations 'cause I won the contest :)

Edit: By the way, it's a contest for last year of high school (in Quebec, you're 16-17 y. old at that moment). I skipped one year so I was 16 years and 5 days old when I did it, which is of course 6-18 months younger than other contestants. To top it all, I participated last year (it was on my 15th birthday) and got 16th, even if I was only on my fourth year of high school. Quite humiliating to be completely demolished by a 15 year old guy when you're already 17 since a few months!

Not so easy ones... For example, prove that for all integer n > 1, n^4 + 4 is not a prime number. That one was one of the middle ones. There were easier ones, and harder ones.

Gratz, very impressive achievement!

Btw:
  • n = 2m (m≥1):
     n⁴+4
    = (2m)⁴+4
    = 16m⁴+4
    = 4*(4m⁴+1)
  • n = 2m+1 (m≥1):
     n⁴+4
    = (2m+1)⁴+4
    = 16m⁴+32m³+24m²+8m+5
    = (4m²+1)*(4m²+8m+5)

Re: non-elma successes

Nice :)
I had something like (n² + 2n + 2)(n² - 2n + 2) = n^4 + 4 (this may be false, I won't verify, I just go by memory) so if n = 1 then n² - 2n + 2 = 1 and the other = 5 so it's 1 x 5 = 5, that's a prime number, but for all others, it's like 2 x 10, 5 x 17, 10 x 26...

By the way, I just edited the other post with a little bit of bragging 8)
