Myers-Briggs Type Indicator

Post by Igge » 7 Oct 2010, 00:32

So basically the Myer-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a way of telling what your personality is. You answer a series of questions to determine your personality, and from my friends' and my own experience the tests have worked incredibly well. We have all taken two different MBTI tests, and most of us got the exact same result from both tests. Some differed slightly, but only where the percentage margins were very low (in my case this would be between S and N for instance, if you look at my result further down).

My type is ISTJ, which means I'm more Introverted than Extroverted, more Sensing than Intuitive, more Thinking than Feeling, more Juding than Perceiving. The exact ratios are:

Introverted (I) 58.33% Extroverted (E) 41.67%
Sensing (S) 51.16% Intuitive (N) 48.84%
Thinking (T) 69.44% Feeling (F) 30.56%
Judging (J) 54.76% Perceiving (P) 45.24%

I tried two tests, but liked the first one more because of it's scale answers. However, I got the same result with both.

So post your result here, and also add it to the poll.

ISTJ - "Trustee". Decisiveness in practical affairs. Guardian of time- honored institutions. Dependable. 11.6% of total population.

I don't know, imo this was totally fucked up. My avatar is there to express that I hate drawing :P. I don't really know myself enough well to answer to many of the questions, hell, I don't even know my real self nowadays.

I did make the other test as well and got the same result. I read a bit about the ISFP and it doesn't really match me. Anyway saw pretty funny quote "They climb the mountain because it is there."

Hard to answer most of the questions, impsy to judge yourself etc
Anyways here are the results:

Introverted (I) 57.14% Extroverted (E) 42.86%
Sensing (S) 53.57% Intuitive (N) 46.43%
Thinking (T) 66.67% Feeling (F) 33.33%
Perceiving (P) 76.47% Judging (J) 23.53%

Kinda fits what I think about myself when it comes to intro/extro matters and percieveing/judging. I like meeting new people, but tend to have trouble finding something to talk about with them. I've got no predujices and know lots of people from different subcultures, religions, races and so on and never judge anyone too fast. I just accept everyone the way they are and not get close with people I don't think are interesting or good fun.

However, I guess i'm much more sensing than intuitive. Also I'm extremely empathic and sympathetic (even though have trouble expressing it) , when someone I know has serious problems I have problems with sleeping, high blood pressure and pulse and so on even for a few weeks, so i dunno why it points towards thinking over feeling so much. Oh well, it's a max complicated matter and such a short test just can't be enough.

edit: it's funny how 'engineer' makes 5.4% of total population and 1/4 of kuskis

but quite T instead of F. What do Sensing and iNtuitive mean exactly?
Well. I hesitated between INFP and INFJ for your case..

Perhaps some more training here is required for my case. Perhaps too is the distinction between S and N difficult to make out through mere text messages?

At last, who knows the difference between both S/I and T/F functions. Wikipedia's MBTI article as it for a great read, which I may recommend to you. Another documentation which I may recommend would be some chapter (IX or X?) in the quite breakthroughful "Psychological Types" book written by Carl G. Jung. In particular, there I've found the, collectively speaking, about-6-pages-length, description of the difference between the E and I attitudes utmostly interesting.

Hoping for that to be of any help to anyone,

I can see this sach related to anpdad's elmaing. Much SL and trial and error to find certainty in styles. Also applier of theoretical models (styles) in ints after thorough testing. Cool)

ENTJ according to the other test.

It's changed a bit since 2010 I guess.

Wow, it seems the majority of users here are introverts. My class did one of these tests earlier this year, and I was the only introvert.
I'm not going to do the test again, but from memory I am an ISTJ (Reliable Realist).

Edit:

Reliable Realists are down-to-earth and responsible-minded. They are precise, reserved and demanding. Their most prominent quality is reliability and they will always make every effort to keep any promise given. Reliable Realists are more quiet and serious persons, they do not talk a lot but they are good listeners. They sometimes seem reserved and distant to outsiders although they often have a great deal of wit and esprit. Their strong points are thoroughness, a marked sense of justice, doggedness bordering on pigheadedness and a pragmatic, vigorous and purposeful manner. Reliable Realists do not dither about if something has to be done. They do what is necessary without wasting words.

I especially liked this part: "Whoever has them as friend or partner can rely on them for a lifetime."
But I have no friends in real life, because: "However, it takes quite a while for Reliable Realists to enter into a relationship or friendship."

INFP - "Questor". High capacity for caring. Emotional face to the world. High sense of honor derived from internal values. 4.4% of total population.

Dunno abut this, should probably be extroverted 1%, I dislike human contact in general, sometimes even avoid it.
When talking to people I don't know well it's hard to find interesting shit to talk about, so it gets to normal stuff like, what music he/she likes and sach thingys.

Dunno why thinking 37.5%, all I do is think, pretty much. It's very annoying sometimes, since if there's something I worry about I cannot keep my mind of that no matter what pretty much, if I do get my mind of it I'll remember it again 5min later and so it continues.

I don't believe that 4.4% of the population are same type of person as me.
I've never met anyone even close to being same type of person as me, I have friends but none of them are even close to being same type of person as me, yet we share many interests.

i like how Hosp contradicts himself in that post so much, and it actually shows how close he is to the result every time :s Result could be wrong ofc, but i think your perception of yourself is wrong too.

You misunderstood, he's surprised that his extrovert value is higher than 1%.

Otherwise good test, BUT, you would need an unbiased long time friend to give you perspective while doing the test and then draw "the golden middle way" from that critique to prevent egoism from blurring the results.

Tried to stay true and asked reference from a friend.

ENFP: (did both sites test, these are the average of those two)

12,75% extrovercy over introvercy
11.1% Intuintion over Sensing
12,7% Feeling over Thinking
25% Perceiving over Judging

In overall after reading the descriptions and charicatyristics of the "type" i think these tests can be pretty accurate but it demands brutal honesty, "killing of the ego" and critical eye regarding the results. Intriguing and fun none the less, very entertaining.

If there was a way to make a similar test absolute, it'd be a hell of an tool for anyone interested or working in the field of sociology and employment i think.

Edit. Jamppa is NOT allowed to comment any portion of this post!!!! (Call me or send msg if you wanna fight, criticize or contemplate man)

I have thought the other way round: you are exactly what the test showed out in thinking-feeling-scale, at least according to what you have talked and done on eol etc.

Also it can be kinda hard to find your soul-mates if you are introverted, like in your case, which you seem to be way more than I am for example.
