we are all extremely jealous, that you popped out of your mom's uterus in a country, which has more olympic medal winners.

I don't think it was supposed to be. How did "you" win anything when someone from the same country won (general question to people who say "we won a round thing hanging from ribbon")?

Btw im asburgr.

heavily disapointed at our volleyball guys :s
losing with bulgaria and australia was really shameful. russia was harder opponent and they made our team go home but i still cant believe we lost so badly as we are one of the best teams atm
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

Any sport is much more fun and exciting to watch when you cheer for specific teams/athletes. Of course an easy way to select who to cheer for is cheering for those from your own country/city. Saying "we won" is obviously more of a figure of speech, meaning the team/athlete I cheer for won. But also many if not all athletes say they do better when people are cheering for them in the stadions etc. So that way you are part of the victory. Of course sitting at home watching in TV doesn't help in that regard. But TV money is also pretty important and without that, there wouldn't be the same elitism in many sports. So you're still a part of it somehow.

There's no shame losing to Australia in the volleyball, we've always been relatively decent as a volleyball country.

Concerning this "we won" I try to watch certain sports not contenders, but one can't deny that usain bolt makes 100m/200m a lot more interesting. Same thing with (unrelated to olympics) ronnie o'sullivan in snooker for example. I would watch those without their presence though. The competition "quality" needs to exceed certain threshold for it to be worthwhile to watch, whatever that threshold is I guess determines how big a freak / fan you are with that certain sport. Usually it's the top10 that in each sport provide the best entertainment value. You simply get "spoiled" when the best of the best are competing. Then again I watch finnish national athletics also so I dunno. Sometimes a good tight competition is interesting enough. Knowing the contenders is a factor also, "oh that guy was 4th last year and also the year before that". So it helps to have some sort of yearly continuity in watching.

<Pawq> at a gym you have only 3 options: 1. have your eyes closed, 2. stare at yourself, 3. stare at others, all of which are either super boring or disgusting
