so what, did it remove money from YOUR bank account? yes I admit some parts are useless, but overall is great to me

oh, well, I modified some parts after that page, final stuff is in the list, still something that computer cant handle? [insert lame joke here] and why i7 would be SOOO wrong, its one of the latest processors on the market

Nothing wrong with the cpu, its the power supply hes moaning about. Which I also think will fail to deliver enough power for that setup if you put a heavy load on it:)

ofc i7 will provide sick performance, but probably not more than abit oced 2.66g 2core i5, which would cost like 5 times less. Also you haven't mentioned the power supply in the list Maw. And if it's really 460W that I feel sorry for you, it's less than I have for my configuration, which is like 10 times less demanding on power :/ (When I got this pc though I'd head 350W, which was too little, that's why I've changed to 500W)
If you're interested in having really an outstandingly stable configuration and you're not short on money, then I recommend changing the psu.

I have something kinda similar to maw's config: i7-950, GTX 465 card, 1TB hdd 6GB ram and my power supply has a solid 600W of power to give all that juice. I had a 500W and it stood a good two weeks.

It may have stood is, but I guess it didn't like it. Google says that Maw's gpu and cpu alone may use up to 320W. That leaves him with 140W for everything else, provided that the psu really delivers those 460w... psus mounted in pre-made computers are often some nonames :/

I may guess, considering the heat when it shut down, that it didn't much.

Lol. Have fun with your expensive computer that'll run as fast as a pentium 4 :)

You'll want to remove McAfee or the power supply won't cope. Oh and about 50% of the RAM too.

From what I know RAM consumes just a few Watts per stick, so it doesn't really matter (though buying 16GB is seriously ridiculous :D))), but BluRay Burner + all the other shit.. :D

maybe not as pentium 4, but probably as fast as a good old e8500 cpu xd

While I am also very much pro assembling your own computer, to be fair it is no where near twice as expensive to buy a premade one, come on. If you bought those exact same parts individually I'm sure the price wouldn't be that much different, ofcourse then you can fit it to your exact need and not "overbuy" in some areas, but still.

oh well, I'll see when I'll boot computer and after a while, lets hope it works fine, if not, then I'll think about new PSU

if not, any idea what else would be good? 600W? and must fit in computer box

(Almost) all PSUs have standard sizes, so you don't have to worry about that (always worth checking).
About power - 1. seems you have money 2. it's quite a powerful pc 3. you will probably want to improve something in some years
therefore I recommend this 850W OCZ Z Series, or if it's too expensive - 850W OCZ GameXStream. 100% power of this PSU probably won't be used right away, but too much is definitely better than too little. Also as I mentioned, once you decide to switch to something more powerful inside, you won't have to bother about the PSU. You will never have to bother about it actually. It's a very forward-looking investment, but it pays off, believe me :)

Cool, I have around 30c cpu when idle, surfing and shid. And about 45c or little more during load, never over 50. I have a big ass Noctua cooler with two 120mm fans sitting on it.

35 is when playing a bigger game like saints row 4 or something full screen high gfx osv. With stresstesting softwares it peaks at about 40 when 100% cpu usage. Its about 32 in idle, so its amazingly steady in that range.

But still looks good! I was wondering if LED fans only would produce a sufficient amount of light to keep the entire case lit. But I think I'll go for a LED stripe in the end :)

I've got a led stripe inside mine. Better lighting with stripe compared to just using led within fans ofc.

Just got my new computer today:

Case: Cooler Master Storm Enforcer
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97-HD3 Intel Z97
CPU: Intel Haswell Core i5-4460 3.2GHz
GPU: Gigabyte GTX 760 OC Edition 2GB
RAM: 2x4GB G.SKILL RipjawsX 1866MHz DDR3
PSU: 500W Zalman ZM500-GV
Other: Windows 7, AC Wireless + Bluetooth

It came with a 1TB HDD but I might swap it out for a 2TB HDD that I already have.

Why would you swap when you can have both?
Or is it some fgt small case which only rooms one drive?

Buy an SSD Lee, it's so worth the investment! The difference is way beyond normal expectations!

I wasn't thinking when I typed that. I think I meant to swap it out as my main one but still keep the 1TB. The video card is so big that part of the internal caging has been removed to make room. This means that the case can only hold 2 HDDs at the moment.

I need capacity more than anything. And high capacity SSDs are way too expensive for me.

Cooler Master Storm Enforcer:
Internal slots 6.4 cm (2.5"): 4
Internal slots 8.9 cm (3.5"): 6

120GB 2.5" SSD for the system disk (less than $100, and makes the most difference of any single upgrade you could ever wish to make to a computer)
1x1TB, 1x2TB HDD (2.5" or 3.5", doesnt matter)

Leaving a total of 7 slots for any further storage needs. There's no reason not to get an SSD for a personal computer. Really.

As long as there's slots in the motherboard you can just throw the ssd on the buttom of the case if necessary :b

Behold the most powerful shit you ever saw:

13'' Mid 2010 MacBook Pro
OS X 10.10.1 Yosemite

Processor: 2,4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory: 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256 MB (this is a bit annoying, but I can live with it)
Storage: 256 GB SATA SSD (custom install by previous owner)

It's shit, but I got it cheap (second hand) and it does what I need it to do. My next desktop will be a beast.
