Prizepool money for future cup

Post by Bjenn »

A cup with a prizepool, where the amount of participants will decide how big of a pool of money you get.

For example, if 70 players would pay 5€ each, we get a pricepool of 350€.

If the player making first place gets the most of it, it could look something like this:
1. 180€
2. 90€
3. 45€
4. 20€
5. 15€
6. 6€
7. 6€
8. 6€
9. 6€
10. 6€
Amounts of 6€ for top6-10 could be filled up somehow. You get the point.

It could motivate teams too, if prizepools 30% going to teams. Also there should be more who gets money. First gets too much 100eur is more than enough if prizepool is 350eur. But i like the idea.

Prizes only motivate the top players who have a decent chance of actually winning noticable amounts. For everyone else to pay you would need some other motivational factor.

Ye, what Kopa said. Pointless for nabs like my to participate, just guaranteed money lost. Following the contest is some motivation but probably not enough, unless swimming in money.

I'll third that above.

Another thing would be prize pool for a battle. In a long cup there's no way for us nabs to win, but in a battle anything can happen.

I wander what would be a big enough winning prize to get a lot of good players to play seriously... 200-300e?

playing elma for money would totally ruin the fun for me. it's never worth the money. how many hours do you have to play to win a big cup? 10-20 hours per event for 10 events? so that's 1-2€ per hour. I'd rather go to work for a few days, earn the same amount of money and keep playing elma for fun.

I dunno, some of us even played Motocoin for a similar hourly rate. :D Or well, maybe it was more, but man, Motocoin was really painful as a game.

Aren't "I wouldn't participate" and "I wouldn't pay to play a cup" the same general opinion?

There's a reason chess gets played rarely for money, whereas poker does. Unless the skill difference between two players is super tiny, it's very appearant who the better player is, because the better player is going to win almost every time. Noone is going to want to make a bet if they know they are going to lose. Elma is much more like chess than like poker, in this regard.

There are prizes in 32 cup in 5 different totally randomized levels but you have to have the best time in them to get the prize!
10€ per level.

Really appreciate this post, it is my thoughts exactly. Just like chess and elma, there is little to no luck involved at all, (in poker there is) we have a clear understanding of who is better than who. I would play for money only against players I feel I am competitive with.
