I've played some with my friends, it's actually pretty fun. The only bad thing is unbalanced heroes, you kinda know at the start which side is going to win. But that's in 3on3 matches, maybe 5on5 could be better balanced with different kind of heroes supporting each other.

dota didn't seem to be much of a succes with me :S

I played two games when I first got it, and haven't played since. I just can't pull myself together to start a game that I can't stop after 10 minutes.
