Promise I will, I'll even let you guys have first class tickets to our gigs :*
Problem is we all live out in the country = no access to demo recorder. so it might take a couple of weeks or so before we've got a demo together. Thanks for the enthusiasm!

A lot worse than you, I assume. I know 3 scales I think, when I improvise it sounds boring or wrong most of the time. And I cannot easily make out the tunes in a song. But I know how to play some stuff fast and enjoy it rather much. I lack consistent practising skills for one thing over and over again.

that is really great! You should look after that talant, it keeps you from never getting boring =). And I doubt you are a lot worse than me. I recently found the fun in picking out your own scales for chords. They're of course not your own, but I like to call them that :) much fun!

well.. Lets take C for example

There are several different places on a guitar where you can put your finger to make the tone "C". If you put them together then voila! you've got a scale for 'C' :D. Then you can add cool twists and bends to make them sound more proffessional. I'm nab with this so dont laugh :P

Haha, now that actually is what every musician does at times I guess. I just do like a E and then a couple of notes around the E an octave higher. or E and then ascending like this:

Code: Select all

0-3-6-0-4-7-5-8-4-7-3-6
or

Code: Select all

0-3-6-0-6-9-0-9-12
Stuff like that. Not much on multiple strings yet. I'm much better at alternate picking than at sweep picking; that's impsy for me.

Exactly what I meant, I wouldn't play that like that though, first of all I like brighter tones so I'd play that further down the A string

Code: Select all

A-string: 7-9-11-7-8-12...
And then I'd make it a whole lot easier for my by using two or even three strings so that when you are done you'd have:

Code: Select all

-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|
-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|
-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|
-|-|-|-|-|3|5|-|6|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|
-|-|-|-|-|-|1,4|-|2|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|
-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|
and then I'd just play around with them 5 notes. Thats basically an E-scale.

Hope you understood my silly writing :P

Here's another C-scale which I like. It's very simple C-blues kinda. Just play with them tones I gave you.

Code: Select all

-|-|-|-|-|-|-|o|-|o|o|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|
-|-|-|-|-|-|-|o|-|o|o|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|
-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|o|o|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|
-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|o|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|
-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|
-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|
And then you could move it all down two tapes, to give it a cool sound like this:

Code: Select all

-|-|-|-|-|o|-|o|o|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|
-|-|-|-|-|o|-|o|o|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|
-|-|-|-|-|-|o|o|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|
-|-|-|-|-|-|-|o|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|
-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|
-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|

A classic example of the pot calling the kettle black; but so did I.
Now to return to the subject that still interests me deeply: the guitar. Do you really play seriously? I'd be glad if you contribute some of what you play or what you find to this thread. :)

I tried some of your stuff, niN, but it doesn't really work out for me. Do you happen to use Guitar Pro?

I can try to make some in it that I play. We'll swap that stuff around then and see what's to it.

hmm, how do you mean "it doesn't really work out for me"? It wasn't your sound or did it not sound clean?

I explained earlier how I liked brighter sounds in scales, but this does of course depend on what the song you're playing to sounds like. I mean, it It's a ballad dark and low tones sound very nice, but in a fast rocksong brighter and higher tones fit like a hand in the glove.

I have no idea of what stage you are on, you might kil me for pointing this out to you, but I wouldn't play that E-scale you showed me earlier the way you do. I'd use the E and A string aswell. Like this:

Code: Select all

0-3-6-0-4-7-5-8

 |-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|e
 |-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|H
 |-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|G
 |-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|D
7|3|6|8|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|A
1,4|-|-|2|5|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|-|E
Sorry for this stupid code, it'd be so much easier to show you. Basically I'm playing the exact same as you are only with two strings. This is much easier to play fast etc.

I did some random recording.

This is me playing one of my dad's songs on piano.
it's called: Waltz #02

Kinda cheesy :P I haven't played this song for quite some time and I have this problem that I have to play a song all the time to keep the smoothness going.
It's a bit fast in the beginning coz I kept fucking it up after playing for 2 mins.. was frustrating

so here goes:

edit: something was wrong with last link. ill try again

I bought two new slides today. One thicker for more brass sound and one thin for the cleaner sound. I'm learning to play slide guitar atm, it's great fun :D. You learn alot about different tunings and you exceed your knowledge about tones everywhere on the neck.

(Warning: Me = veritable n00b, this is my first post on Lauta :P )

I play a load of instruments... music is my life. I play piano, violin, flute, clarinet, trumpet, horn (French horn, albeit it being German), tuba, recorder (advanced, no baby crap), and percussion, especially marimba. I'm advanced on piano and marimba, the others I'm more intermediate. I suck at guitar. ;)

I'm also a composer, and the reason I come here, is if anyone would like some original music for anything they desire (hopefully Elma-related), I can write it. Instrumental ONLY, I'm afraid.

Two contrasting samples of my work in MP3 format:
Techno style -> http://www.esnips.com/doc/0a061eb1-d31d ... 201378603/
More 'symphonic' -> http://www.esnips.com/doc/ce439b82-a542 ... rass-Choir
(copyrighted material, don't go anywhere with it)

PM me if anybody's interested, I do this for the fun and experience, it's free. 8)

i have a synthesizer at home, soooo a month ago started learning to play some Queen songs on it. (i learned to play teh instrument for 2 years, but haven't played for about 3 years so i have forgotten everything :) ) found some pianosheets in teh internet and leeeaeaarnd. never read notes so it was hard in the beginning but now i'm pretty good at it :P
and i'm able to play stuff like http://youtube.com/watch?v=YFwOe0EPOJs and http://youtube.com/watch?v=O_oFEseVTvY (well except the fast part in 3-4 s, there aren't enough keys for that on a synthesizer :D)
