Speedruns - post them there

Post by Mawane »

Today, in my opinion, I saw the sickest video ever, evenmore than EDQ2. The speedrun of Super Mario 64 played to the perfection. But it is not filmed with a camera zoomed on the TV, There are tools to help the player to make it to the perfection. The player can use Slow Motion, Save and maybe others but I don't know everything on speedruns. There is the link of the video and give feedbacks.

sad thing is that the player is always looking at ground, walking diagonaly to gain speed so, boring as hell to watch.

haha it's so true. but it's kind of funny if you played the game before cause you tried so many ways to beat the game and killing most of the players and then some pro comes along and runs through everything and ur like how the fack he do that

The sickes speedrun out there is Elder Scrools - Morrowind. This is for sure one of the longest games of all time.

The game was speedrun with NO CHEATS AT ALL in, can't remember whether it was 14 or 16 minutes, but either one. Check out the video on youtube.com if you don't believe (which you probably wont)

the best fps speedruns Ive seen and recommend:

1. quake1 ez best, example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LpUbyirG2xU

2. halflife1 in 31 min http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTUOn2EU ... ed&search= , dont ask about run speed

3. halflife2 in 1h 36min http://speeddemosarchive.com/demo.pl?HalfLife2_13657 , dont ask about the bugs, scripthelped runspeed

4. duke nukem 3d, example: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... &plindex=0
dont ask about the run speed again :P

obviously im noob in all of the games and cant say are these the best or just "45.xx headbanger recs" ;)

The length of the actual game has nothing to do with the length of the speedrun. It all comes down to the amount of bugs/glitches you can abuse, cutscenes, dialogues etc.

I remember a Morrowind speedrun done in like 20 mins, the game itself are huge, but it doesnt matter when you can fly to the last boss in minutes.

Other short games has dialogues wich you cannot skip that takes up 90% of the run wich can result in a very long speedrun.

but in order to go places in earthbound you need to complete objectives; there is no "shortcuts" so to say that cut major time. (you can skip some sanctuary places, but then you'll have to do them later in order to get to Giygas.

I know nothing about Earthbound, I was just refering to this part:
But prolly longer on longer rpgs
You cannot expect a longer speedrun on a longer game since the length of the speedrun has close to zero connection with the lenght of the game.

But nevermind, not a big deal.

Didn't read all posts so dunno if anyone has already said this but Super Mario Bros. 3 in 10:xx, Zelda Ocarina of Time in... 2:40:xx I think, and hum... Chrono Trigger in 4 hours. I mean... one of the longest RPGs in 4 hours. But Mario 64 with 0 stars in like... five or six minutes, don't know the latest time... that is incredible.

By the way I love the way to get in the Shadow Temple without the song nor the Longshot. That is great, really.

I think this topic needs a bump.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WRzsZdcSDCQ Super Mario 64 done in 5:29

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBr1OmRgFFE Super Mario 64 100% done in 1:39:02

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvH4G6Y1r60
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0oFwyl1p8NU Super Mario Bros 3 done in 10:29

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CV16cwGkBxw Goldeneye 007 done in 29:58

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_ukJe4UAxg The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time done in 2:33:25

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bo5le8a15Ik The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask done in 2:14:03

There are some more, but here are my favorites :)

By the way, they all are TAS.

Have to say I'm surprised I didn't mention this myself. The half life 2 speedrun is simply amazing. Yes, they have a scripted bunnyhop, but still, that doesn't help you that much. I mean if you give a noob that script, he'll still need several hours/days to finish the game. The amazing things is not the speed itself, but it's what they can do with the speed they get. And the thing is you can get that speed without a script as well, but in the long run it would kill your fingers to do it.

Also, when watching this speedrun, I learned a few tricks for when playing HL2DM. They make such nice use of the physics engine, and find things I would never find, even though they're quite logical. The way they stack a table making it stand upright, sit on one pair of it's legs, and then shoot a pulse rifle energy-orb on the legs above you, making the table flip around, thus throwing you up in the air stunned me the first time I saw it. Doing this enables many seemingly impossible shortcuts, just like some insane tricks can become insane shortcuts in elma. I always use this when playing dm_overwatch, it's a very neat shortcut to the roof, however it has lead to quite a few cheating accusations. :>

It would be nice to see a half life speed-run without object surfing, but I'm not saying it's cheating, it's indeed very hard.

I have no idea as to why I havn't gotten around to see the HL2e1 and HL2e2 speed runs, if they have been made, that is?

It's hard to say which is better, the HL2 speed run, or EDQ, but they definitely make up my top 2.

you can use a magic seed on the patch of dirt at back end of graveyard (close to kakariko) and go to ledge, then use TAS to jump on the wall so many times so fast you 'ride' to above the shadow temple.

i think...

i tried Speedrunning OoT without TAS once, was some 15 hours.

Yeah... played Banjo Kazooie and Tooie on Project 64, liked it but less than DK64, I stopped at Rusty Bucket Bay for Kazooie and... well, for Tooie I wasn't organised at all, because I think you need to collect Jiggies in a weird order, like some you need tricks from further levels... So I don't really know.

in banjo kazooie you have only one place, where you have to go a step back in progress to get a jiggy, that you won't get without. In Tooie you have this at all points in the game; not only because of that tooie is much more challenging, some jiggys are just WTF-complex to get. I played it on N64 back then. a few month ago i tried again on project64 and cant even get into the last level - eventhough i completed the game before by 100%
I guess tooie is about the same difficulty like majoras mask if you play it your first time.

In times, when i played wow a lot, i was impressed to the max of some webstats of raids who cleared the black temple prepatch within 107 minutes or such, gruul within 6 minutes. Just amazing :o

http://au.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=018CB08835BCDC62 LoZ - Ocarina of time 100% Segmented speed run. He's not yet finished, but it's NON-TAS! and he's running for about Half an hour better than current WR for 100% completion all Golden Skulltulla's, all heart pieces, all items, all upgrades, all temples complete.

I'd liek to see an Earthbound Speedrun, considering most people shit themselves fighting Giygas. Fyi Giygas is a baby rofl.
