Elastomania Level Archive

Post by zebra »

Have you ever had a situation that you are missing an important level? You maybe know the level name but can't find it from your level folder (which is messed up)? You don't bother to search the internet either? Or would you like to have a decent collection of elastomania levels?

If yes, ELA is the pack for your needs. Like the topic says, it's the ultimate collection of all elastomania levels ever existed. Yes, I know, this is very ambitious project :)

So, why another level pack? Aren't there those big elastomania level collections out there? Well, yes there are, but they all contain only someone's personal collection of levels and they are not organized in any way. ELA is organized by highly educated elma professional (me) :) and has a nice structure where you can find the most popular levels easily and see the level packs arranged by designer or team.

ELA isn't ready yet, and will be never ready. It's only a snapshot of the current situation. I need you to download the zip, examine the directory structure and all the levels in it. There are many levels and level packs still missing and there might be some errors also. I need you to find them and report them in this thread. I also want some improvement proposals and ideas how to make the pack or directory structure better.

I also need you to upload your levels in this thread so that the pack can be updated in the future. I'm mainly interested in full level packs. When posting your level pack,
1) give the direct link to the pack (.zip if preferred)
2) tell the level pack name
3) tell who has made the levels (nick and team)
4) tell where in the level hierarchy it should be placed (or if it's already there)

I have tried to remove all duplicates from the zip, and let's try to keep it like that, although it's pretty hard and there are some still some levels intentionally in multiple places (for example some GAA and LOM levels).

In case someone has a ftp server with enough space and interest (moposite/zworqy/maxdaman/who else?), I would gladly give this project to someone else, who could maintain this archive in his/her site. Otherwise we'll continue updating and uploading the pack into this thread once in a while.

Currently there are 51243 files in the pack. That means that we have over 50000 levels in it :) Download the pack below. Have fun! Note that opening the package might be very slow due to the amount of level files.

If you can't extract the 7z archive, download the 7-zip program.

Download ELA-2008-06-13.7z, 51243 files, 169 MB:

Levels: ELA-2008-06-13.7z
File list: ELA-2008-06-13.txt

Download EOL level packs: (465 level packs and 50706 levels, 323 Mb unzipped)
- Level packs with subfolders: EOL_level_packs_20221029.7z
- All level packs in same folder: EOL_flat_level_packs_20221029.7z

Why? What's wrong with .zip? Something personal?
I made a comparison between some of the most used compression formats and this was the result:

Uncompressed: 380 MB (472 MB on disk)
zip: 248 MB
rar: 239 MB
7z: 157 MB

So, there isn't much difference between zip and rar and because zip is better supported than rar, I won't be uploading rar.

But, I may upload the packs in 7z format in the future because it seems to be so much better. Any opinion on this? Everyone should be able to uncompress 7z because there are free programs for that. So, do you want 7z or zip?

More systems/programs can handle ZIPs than RARs. You don't even need a prgram for ZIPs, Windows can zip/unzip by itself. That's support.

That pack is HUGE. But is there any way to play them without having to extract every level to LEV folder?

I guess you don't want to have over 46000 levels in your lev folder. Just extract the pack somewhere else and copy the interesting levels to your lev folder. I think it's the best way to handle this amount of levels. Would be marvellous if elma had a feature so that it could read subfolders under your lev folder... but it hasn't, at least not yet.

Btw, in case you get an internal error when opening editor, that's because you have a level in your level folder which filename length is over 8 characters. I removed all such levels from the pack so this shouldn't be a problem anymore.

wont be able to extract until I gat rar :( and not in mood to extract 100 levs at the time
Use some better program than winzip. For example I use power archiver and it works fairly good.

You do know WinRAR can extract .zip files? ;s

Anyway, how people can't have support for .rar on their machines know I won't understand. Pretty much all downloaded movies are in split .rar archives for instance. Which btw is one of the huge advantages of .rar over .zip; as far as I know it's not possible to split .zip archives. Though it probably wouldn't be much use in this case.

No, but that's not the issue anyway, as BarTek complained about WinZip being slow.
zworqy wrote:ZIPs can be split. But the question is: Why the fuck would you WANT TO?
In this case there would be no point. But people may want to split a big RAR archive if they want to upload it to rapidshare for instance, which only accepts files that are 100MB in size.

But blah, this topic isn't about competing compression formats, and I think you'll agree zworqy :)

To which level pack are you referring to?
Because if you mean MLP (Mawane's level pack), it can be found from ELA/Misc level packs/Mawane's levels
Actually there are more your levels in ELA than in your own site (in your site there are only levels 1-78 ).

Ok for all of you who couldn't extract zip file, I uploaded 7z file (see the first post). You may download the 7-zip program and try to extract with it. It was very fast at least for me (just click the ELA-2008-05-11.7z file with right mouse button and select to extract).

And I would like to stick to 7z in the future because it's so much smaller (90 MB is much for some ppl)

Well, upload them here, please!

Come on other ppl too, I haven't received too many levels after the first release.
I might upload a new version in two weeks or so. After that there can be a much longer break.

Well, maybe next year or so. I won't be updating it after every new level. It's a lot of work collecting all the new levels. I don't really know if I bother. But in case I update it some day, if you want to ease up my work, you can upload your levelpacks in this topic. Anyway I kind of reached my goal already when I got all the legendary packs all in one zip file.
