Supervolt and Bounce bugs, and the Maths behind it
is the supervolt considered a bug?
is the bounce considered a bug?
i.e. have the author planned them or they just happened without him intentionally planning them to?

None of them are considered bugs. However, I'm pretty sure bounces were not intended, and the alovolt was supposed to work in both directions.

the word "bug" means a fault in a program caused by bad judgment/ignorance/inattention.
you said you thought that:
- bounces are bugs (i.e. not intended);
- supervolts were planned, so they are not bugs;
- bug concerning supervolts is that one side doesn't work correctly.
if the latter point is correct, then tell us how did Balazs had planned us to use the left supervolt, if to use the right one we had to press both direction keys at the same time?

Supervolt was a bug in Across, not in Elma (i.e., in Elma it was intentional). I think regular bounces were bugs in Across too, Jappe?

so both bounces and supervolts could originally have been something unplanned.
what makes me curious, are the reasons behind results of both these phenomenons:
- why does the pressing of the brakes under pressure makes such a violent push in a direction perpendicular to the ground?
- why does the simultaneous pressing of both directional keys produce this strange volt? after such a delay? of that intensity?
what could have been the maths behind it all?

in my opinion you cant say the supervolt is a violent push to the ground as i see it as being a much smoother spin.

i've heard bounces are common phenomenon when games like this are created, because, mathematically, too much pressure exerted in one point results in the object "bouncing." haven't heard this kind of thing in a long time, though, because i'm out of "game development."

Well, simple jumping (without pressing a brake) after a short wheelpressing is ok. What about bounces... i believe it's because of incorrect differential equations, which appear in such extreme spots. Hence you get a burst of a calculation error, even with high fps.
We should go and ask Hib or mila (1)
And about supervolt, dunno really. I've asked about this earlier and got an answer that functions of volts go right after each other. Left volt is first, right volt is next. So maybe they don't cancel each other but rather work both instead blahblah. Ok, bad try, look (1) again.

mila has explained both of these bugs, however you know how he talks right? doesnt explain it very well.
supervolt is something like this:
press left and add force
press right and add force
if left button is pressed force clockwise
otherwise if right button is pressed force counter-clockwise
so if both buttons are pressed the force is double and direction to left
i also made an elma game with very simple dynamics.
it is with this spring formula, like f=mx or something like that.
it bounced like hell, completely fupped...
dont know how to explain it cos i didnt look at the numbers...so anyway...hello
