First Finish Cups: FFC9 in FEM 2021

Post by nick-o-matic »

So, I decided to make a cup that consists of 10 first finish battles battled in a row. After each battle I will give points for everyone in top 15 (finishing isn't required, you just have to be in the top 15). But to the total points of the cup I will calculate only points corresponding to the best 5 placements of each player. That's because now you can miss an event or two and die in some too but still win the cup if you just pwn the other events - it's more about raw FF speed and you don't have to ride ultra safe.

About point system and keeping people aware of the total situation during the cup: I thought that after each battle I will calculate the total standings and paste the situation to the #ballelma. I'll do it manually because with my nab programming skills it would be bigger work to make the program than make the updates manually. If there will be more of these cups, things may change. After all shouldn't be so big work so I'll propably have always made all the updates before the next FF has started.

The point system could look like this:

Placement Points
1 30
2 26
3 23
4 20
5 17
6 14
7 12
8 10
9 8
10 6
11 5
12 4
13 3
14 2
15 1

About the levels: I will be the biggest invidual maker of them but for excample Jappe will surely make some and I have had some talk with FinMan and Ramone too. Also, you are max allowed to make some to there too but remember that there's room for only 10 levels.

So, you are all welcome to this (approx.) nearly two hours of intensive first finish driving at belma which (this may change if it isn't okay for you) will take its point in time on next Sunday evening (8.2.2009) from on 16:00 GMT (18:00 Finnish time)!

So, most people are fine with 16:00 GMT? So far I know only 4 people who can't play because of the bad timing (Are, Ramone, talli and tela). It's still possible to change the starting time.

Whatever the starting time will be, you should anyway come there a bit earlier because if there's some battles in queue, I have to try to estimate when the queue ends and add the cuplevels a bit in advance and then the first event will start when the queue ends, and that propably isn't excatly 16:00 GMT.

About the levels I have got 2 awesome levels from Ramone and one from Jappe and I'm waiting for another one from Jappe, two from FinMan and one from umiz. Also I have made 2 levels myself so far and will make one more too.

It will start in 6 hours!

I decided to put one normal battle not belonging to the cup after 5 events so people can eat something and go to the bathroom etc during that. That will make the cup take longer time of course, and some events are pretty long too, so I guess the cup may even take 2,5 hours in total.

To minimize that chanse I start everything in a row by changing my belmanick (you can start as much balles in a row as you want like that, can't you?). But if still someone manages to start a balle between the FF's, dunno, abort maybe yeah.

(is it btw enough that I change my nick in the startballe, or do I have to go to belmaServerConf?)

This sounds very interesting, I think I will be there! And I think the time should be reserved for these ff levels only. If someone starts own balle in between, just abort with no further reasons given. Hope the levels will be nice!

I think Jappe promised to make that job, FinMan.

Bjorn made a normal level to be battled after 5 events so those who need to eat and go to the toilet and have some fresh air may do that and others can play that Bjorn's battle as a half-time break entertaiment.

And it's only one hour till the cup starts now!

Thx everyone, and thx to Ramone, FinMan and Jappe for making the levels (and for Bjorn for making the halfway break battle)!

It was really nice to see such big amount of players taking part to the cup, you were attending with even more numerous crew than I dared to hope!

And I calculated the results now (not maybe fully correctly). Here they are:

1. Ali 139 [1, 2, 1, 3, 1, (14), (3), (5)]
2. adi 131 [(5), 2, 2, 1, (12), (12), 3, 2]
3. FinMan 116 [6, 1, 2, 2, (10), 4]
4. Jappe2 98 [10, (12), (11), 3, 2, 4, 3]
5. Lukazz 97 [(14), 6, 3, (11), 2, 4, 6, (7)]
6. Xarthok 94 [12, 1, 1, 1]
7. Kopaka 86 [8, 1, 5, 7, 5, (14)]

10. zaraptor 58 [3, 9, 7, 8, 11]
11. Kuper 48 [8, 15, 3, 10, 9]
12. Ramone 46 [4, 7, 6]
13. DCEM 46 [3, 3]
14. Bjorn 46 [(13), 6, (14), 10, 11, 12, 5]
15. ville_j 41 [15, 5, 8, 7, 15]
16. _BUILDER 40 [4, 4]
17. k0xx 40 [9, (11), (10), 10, 9, 9, 9]
18. igge 36 [15, 10, 6, 11, 8]
19. Ben 34 [5, 5]
20. -Nico-o 29 [12, 6, 11, 13, 13]
21. Lumen 28 [2, 14]
22. vadik- 27 [13, 7, 8, 14]
23. barryp 25 [11, 4]
24. Rasken 23 [10, 5]
25. Kazan 20 [9, 7]
26. welle 19 [12, 8, 15, 12]
27. $!<k? 17 [14, 7, 13]

==. terb0 3 [13]
46. gigi 1 [15]
==. Memphis [HHIT] 1 [15]
==. EngineMan 1 [15]

I will put here the levs, recs, some sick screenshots and more comments too a bit later, just posted this so you can see the results now.

Grats for Ali and others too!

EDIT:
So, I promised to give some more comments about this cup but because of being lazy I didn't do it fastly enough and now it's maybe too late.

But anyway it was a joy to arrange that cup and it was nice to see such nice performance from so many players, actually whole top 10+ did pretty well I think. Especially Ali's results were pretty awesome, he finished his 6 best results in podium. Adi wasn't many points away either.

Winners of the events:

(Warmup FF: FinMan)
01: Ali
02: FinMan
03: Kopaka
04: Ali
(Halfway break normal battle: Kazan)
06: adi
07: Ali
08: Smibu
09: Xarthok
10: Xarthok
05: Xarthok

From that list you propably first notice Xarthok's stunning winning row from last 3 events, wonder what he could have done if played all the events, don't miss FFC2 Xarthok =)

Since so many players did so well, some were unlucky. For example usually great FF player Bjorn was leading (or at least were in the tighest top) in something like every event especially at the first events but every time mongoed. Take it more carefylly next time, Bjorn :P

I think complete opposite was k0xx, calculating his line simply made me smile:
17. k0xx 40 [9, (11), (10), 10, 9, 9, 9]
Take more risks next time k0xx :D

Now I'll comment my own levels. I tried to put some effort to them.

FFC101: Full throttle: I tried to make something max ez without any deathspots to get tight battle (well, the big uphills were maybe slightly too hard). Anyway, I think it became good and it was liked too. Ali won this.

FFC105: Nommish FF I think: I just tried to make a very normal FF with some bit harder places too to separate pro players from nabs. I think it became okay FF but one place wasn't liked: the gravity part. And that's something I simply cant get, couldn't be easier! I knew people don't like gravity but I needed to get lev to continue higher without sick long uphill so gravity was needeed. And tried to make it simple! Still many claimed that they died there.
Also few missed flower, that was mistake from me, you can ez drop between flowers and wall if have really bad luck.
This was battled as the last level because mongoed battling. Also the amount of players in this wasn't as big as in the previous ones, unfortunately long battle time of FFC110 filtered many players I think :(
This was the last level from Xarthok's winning streak.

FFC110: Winner: Wanted to make something hard too, hard but not hazardous. You weren't supposed to die anywhere, maybe get stuck though. Still pretty many died, I think that those small hangs caused death to pretty many, altough they shouldn't be so bad.
This level also divided the opinions roughly. I think most didn't like it but pretty many said it's really fun too! And that was what I wanted - variation. There should be one not-so-ez-to-finish lev in this kind of cup I think. And at least top of results wasn't made from n00bs =)
Xarthok won this.

Here are the levels, recs and screenshots from the cup:
(actually I'm missing some recs because forgot to dl and didn't rename screenshots, they should be in logigal order though)

First Finish cup 2

Post by nick-o-matic »

I updated some info about First Finish cup 1 including levels and recs of the cup.
But this post is more about First finish cup 2

Yeah, there will be another First finish cup. It was such fun to arrange the previous one. I was thinking to arrange it in approximately two weeks. But I'll propably change weekday away from Sunday, I wonder if Saturday is fine? Also I'll propably put it start at 17:00 instead of 16:00 GMT.

About the levels many people offered to make level to this during FFC1. So everyone just ez make and send them to me! This request is surely also for the old makers Ramone, FM and Jappe! And it would be good if you sent them me even very early, it would always be less stress for me =)

The levels doesn't have to be fancy at all, just some basic driving is cool. The main thing is that they are predictable and not hazardous at all. You should be able to press full throttle in fast places without any worries. Even if you used tens of hours to that FFC lev and it was mainly awesome people will dislike it if they die in a mongo place.

And since so many have wanted to make a lev to there I think it would be good if you sent only one lev / person at least at first.

See you in the FFC2 :)

Niceness Mawane :)

I was btw thinking to make one event that you are allowed to practice even before the cup. The levelmaker could then play that level too. If it's success there could be more of these in future cups. But all 10 levels won't be ever practiceable, that would be too big work to practice.

Please keep it on Sunday, I have sauna every Saturday around that time (17:00 GMT still better for me than 16:00, in general). Or, Friday would be also ok for me :)
Not sure if I make a lev for the cup but if I do, I'll make it this week!

I think 17 is a bad time as its in the middle of eating time (doesnt matter for me though), so some 15 or 18-19 might be better so its either before or after.

Anyway I wanted to say that I think its way to many levels you're allowed to skip. It causes that you can take much bigger chances as it doesn't really matter if you die, you'll just skip that one. Some 2 or maybe 3 will be better imo. (ofcourse could be a problem for designers, but if there's only 1 from each like you said it's no problem.)

make it sunday pls, not in the middle of weekend ( )
also..
- increase # of results which count to 6 -7. last time i got lucky in the first few events and then kinda lost motivation and also took unnecessary risks, cos it didnt matter if i placed 3rd or 17th...
- it would SUCK to have levs available before cup, that would ez destroy fairness of teh competition (even random belma passers-by play :!: )
- i will try to make level, but weer do i send i dunno :(

In my optinion it would suck also if the levels were shared before it. Someone could have whole saturday / sunday open for those and second maybe has teh sunday evening.

After max hoyling, go to try speed zeros run on internals and answer then is it good idea. If you can finish all of them, i can think it again.

Yeah maybe Saturday was bad idea. But I'd like to change weekday from Sunday in case for someone Sundays reguraly aren't ok. Now I'm thinking Tuesday!

So it was wanted that you could skip less events. But I really dunno about that - for example in last cup actually really few finished more than 5 events in top 15. If 6 or more finishes were required it would be maybe too much about endurance and you couldn't be absent. The cup takes some 2 hours and it shouldn't be punished too hard if you have to go for some reason during that.

On the other hand it seems that for example in FFC1 there would barely be changes if more results were count. Really dunno about this.

About publishing a level or two before cup: I'd like to play some levels myself too so I could play those levs xd

I btw got already one level. It's kinda huge chain FF by talli and igge! Igge estimated that finishing it will take at least 9 minutes for the winner. But the level is nice. It's also a bit tricky. (this btw means that it would be nice to get some shorter and/or ezer levs to get all kind of levels there, its not good if all of them are superFFs :D)

I will make a level too.

I think any weekday is pretty ok if you change it from time to time and tell the actual day at least week before the cup.

And I think 5 levs out of 10 is ok so you don't have to attend every battle (there can always be netsplits and for example phone calls disturbing your runs).

zebra there's no netsplits in belma (:

You say only few finished top15 five times, but that's part of FFs, sometimes you die and get bad placement, but with so many skips those death doesn't matter as much. And a guy like xhartok could come with like 3 rounds left and win those and get good overall placements, not playing most of the events (or something like that). And if you're absent that's you're fault, tell your mom to make dinner before or after the thing, turn off your phone ect. ;)

Ofcourse it's your cup so you decide, but I just think so many skips kind of ruins the idea of FF.

ok ok. If there are no netsplits, at least your own net can disconnect you from the server.

And there can always be for example virus scanner or windows update ruining your life.

I don't like the idea of pre-publishing the events. I think that's the thing which could ruin the idea of FF cup.

I have had difficulties to make the final choice of the weekday and time. And maybe it's good to keep it on Sunday. But I think it could start 1 hour later than last time.

So: FF-cup 2 on Sunday 8.3.2009 17:00 GMT
