Like you should be allowed to play elma a bit even for quite a long time but if you really start playing more and becoming rapidly better in 2009 there should be the possiblity to nominate you the 2009 rookie or improver or whatever. In the current system if you apper to the scene for example in June or July its impsy rookie prize which sucks.
Well, I can agree with this to an extent, but remember that the Rookie award doesn't have to go to someone because of their playing skills. An Improver award seems to favor playing over, for instance, level designing or contributions. But such an award will definitely be up for discussion next year.

I do think it's possible to be a contender for the Rookie award if you join the scene in June/July, for some. So then you get the dilemma (if we allowed 6 months prior to the period as opposed to 3 months): Should we nominate this person for the Rookie award now, since he is certainly qualified for it, or should we rather wait to next year so he may have a better chance of winning?
Was it cast for the mass who burn and toil?
Or for the vultures who thirst for blood and oil?

And then someone will join in May this year, and people will complain about that, then 2011 someone will join in April etc. What's the point in drawing a line if you're gonna stop obeying it every time you feel like it? And what's the point in the rookie award if you don't draw a line?

Perhaps we should hold a poll over the next week or so, in which people can vote over how long of a period they think the rookie category should extend? The result of the poll would be taken into consideration when preparing the next GAA.

As for this year, I think we should stick to the line we drew.

And I'm trying to be completely neutral in this matter. Would there have been such a discussion had there been some semi-unknown random kuski who had been excluded? I don't think so. And I have nothing against Nekit, quite the contrary in fact. However, I still think we shouldn't bend the rules just because they happen to affect someone we like.

On the contrary, i see that the aim of this ceremony is to reward that people who we like. And if the rules contradicts with the will of the scene its not a good rules.

Let's dont play in ceremonial trial juge processes with their strict rules. Let's dont play in democracy like it was in Manderlay film.

In fact there is no need in strict rules. Registration data is not a good evidence that someone entered the scene exactly in that period.
Example. One person could be regestered at April but he dont play elma since registration. But in a half a year he becomes realy be active in the scene, but according excisting rules he can't be chosed as a rookie of the next year under any circumstunces, however common sence say us that he could.
In this tricky cases scene will decide. I see three mechanism of it.
1) On the step of nomination someone rises the question of legitimity. Some oldfags should be eliminated on this step.
2) On the step of voting this type of persons will recieve less amount of points because that part of community thinking that this person is nonlegitime will not vote for him
3) Finally jury who are represent honorable trustable and clever part of scene add some pros or cons points of him.
If he won, so he deserve it.

one more question for jury.

Why period of GAA09 was defined from December 16th 2008 to December 31st 2009

The deadline of submitting scene suggestions was 17 November last year. So till that time community couldn't suggest any new candidats. Why this year period was taken started from 16 December? Where the month is gone?

Do jury really could chose Nekit as progressive kuski last year? I doubt.
But why jury denies the right of community chose nekit this year who perfectly fits into 3 month range? (17 november - 3 months = 17 august, that earlier then his registration on elmaclub)

The Second step (the jury's nomination process where the canditates to each category is chosen) for GAA08 ended December 16th 2008. The jury can choose candidates that are not suggested by the community, so notable events occuring from 17 November to 16 December were taken care of for GAA08. Likewise, for GAA09, the deadline for the community suggestions was 16 December, but the jury has taken the entire year (up to 31 December) into consideration. Nothing is lost here.

Hmm, before I actually thought it's particulary about the player's skills.

I think you shouldn't think the first appearance in #ballelma logs, nor lauta registeration date, but some approximate date from which the player has really became active and jury could think that date with common sense. And the strict limit (previous year's August or whatever) should be for this date.

I believe that Rookie category should be replaced by improvement category. Someone, not necessarily someone who just joined, has proved outstanding amelioration should qualify for it. That means, if, in 2010, I lower my TT to 39 and drive one WR, I would be a candidate; if, in 2010, someone joins the scene and bursts a 41 TT out of no where (like Kiiwi did this year), he would be a candidate; if, in 2010, Thorze stop acting like a mongo and becomes a figure of respect, he would be candidate.

Wouldn't that be a better category than 3-month-prior Rookie one?

It could be a good category, but as I said earlier:

I think this is a pointless debate, since it's obv been discussed almost every year and nothing's been resolved. So i think we should go along with what the "higher up's" decide, ofc reasonable argument's should be considered to be taken into account in describing rookie (if ever should sach arguments surface :? )....Otherwise the whole category will be a line drawn on water like now and ppl are unconfident in their opinions, voting process suffers due to confusion caused by the fuss and half of the good candidates will be kicked out because standards change in middle of process.

Golden Apple Awards 2009

Time: February 7th 2010, 20:00 EET (GMT+2)
Place: #gaa for the show, #across for talk

Jury: BoneLESS, igge, Kopaka, Markku, Raven and SveinR

GAA winners:

01. Internalist - Zweq
02. Externalist - adi
03. Battler - Zweq
04. Rookie - Mielz
05. Designer - Ramone
06. Team - WNO
07. WR - 05. Uphill Battle: 19,79 Jarkko #301
08. Style - talli's Serpents Tale
09. Replay - 07. Hi Flyer: Not finished (07zwoot7.rec) Zweq
10. Level - ChainPII.lev Chain Pie II MPFKBJKZB by Mawane et al.
11. Contest - Banana Cup 4
12. Contribution - Kopaka: Working on the new Elma Online site, made the Open Source Automated Cup Website, updates Kopasite, organized TEH Cup, GAA jury member
13. Achievement - John: Being the first to break the 36 minute limit in total time, continues to be on the #1 spot
14. Site - Zworqy's site
15. Art - Jappe2: His movies
16. Community Award - Kopaka

How the winners were decided:
For the 15 regular awards: The community gave two votes to its top candidate, and one vote to its second-highest candidate. The jury members had one vote each, and a jury member could not vote for himself (but he could choose not to vote). In the case of a draw, the candidate ranked highest by the community won.
For the Community Award: Here the community's votes decide everything.

The community votes: (when there are an equal amount of points, the one with the most 5-pointers is ranked higher, if same amount of 5-pointers then the one with most 4-pointers, etc.
I have only shown the top5 here.)

Least amount of votes for a winning candidate went to Zworqy's site for Site: It got 2 votes, and was drawn with two other sites (the decider was the amount of 5-pointers from the community).

Speeches:

Start speech:

[19:01:00] <SveinR> 20:00 EET Greetings, welcome to the 7th annual Golden Apple Awards!
[19:01:09] <SveinR> This channel is +m so only operators and voiced people will be able to talk, use #across for free talk. Stupid nick changes will result in a ban.
[19:01:19] <SveinR> The are 16 categories and five candidates in each category. The candidates have been chosen by the jury and the community, click here for more info: http://mopolauta.moposite.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=6552
[19:01:27] <SveinR> The jury consists of six members: BoneLESS, igge, Kopaka, Markku, Raven and SveinR
[19:01:34] <SveinR> The winners are determined by community votes and jury votes. In the event of a tie, community votes matter.
[19:01:46] <SveinR> If I get disconnected and won't come back for an hour, the show will be postponed to the same time tomorrow.
[19:02:08] <SveinR> -----------------------------------------------------

[19:06:32] <SveinR> Zweq does not seem to be present

02. Externalist, adi

[19:11:07] <adi_MiE> Thanks! This is my second win in this category, and last time I didn't prepare a speech because I didn't belive I could win. [19:15:57] <igge> Who, unfortunately, is not present at the moment
[19:16:10] <igge> A well deserved win though

04. Rookie, Mielz

[19:19:49] <Mielz|EF> Thanks! Im glad i won my first GAA :) Id like to thank to team EF and all people who helped me a lot, especially Morgan and Bjorn. Without their help it would be much harder for me in the beggining in the scene. Thanks again!

[...]

[20:16:50] <RamoneTAP> And as long as I keep enjoying elma I will keep making levels.
[20:17:01] <RamoneTAP> Levmaking comes more natural to me than playing lately.
[20:17:09] <RamoneTAP> Since I make much levels quite fast Belma and me seems to be the perfect wedding.
[20:17:17] <RamoneTAP> Otherwise all levels just stays unplayed on my computer.

11. Contest, team TAP

[20:10:43] <RamoneTAP> Seems zebra went offline...
[20:10:55] <RamoneTAP> anyway, zebra was the brain behind Banana Cup.
[20:11:08] <RamoneTAP> He had worked on ideas for this cup in his head for ages.
[20:11:27] <RamoneTAP> Then when it came closer to accually make it. It was me and Zebra who made most levels,
[20:11:55] <RamoneTAP> with this we had great fun. My first good teamexperiece.. we tested ideas and levels for hours

[20:12:52] <zebraTAP_> fear of the banana comeback, the banana cup 3 :)

13. Achievement, John

[20:32:48] <John--> Thanks! It was a great feeling going under 36.00 in the early morning of June 29th after being "stuck" on 36.0x for so long, I guess I can consider this feat the greatest thing I've accomplished in the scene. It's pretty amazing how Elma is always developing. Every so-called impossible limit through the years has been broken so far and although I don't see myself or anyone else going under 35 minutes anytime soon it will most likely happen one day. It fe
[20:34:03] <John--> It feels like a new internalwave has evolved recently with a bunch of exciting players. Only time will tell what they will be capable of doing. Thanks again, I appreciate it :)
[20:34:06] <John--> :p

14. Site, Zworqy

[20:42:32] <zw0r> OMG! I'm so happy! I haven't prepared anything, but I would like to thank everyone who used my site and voted for it.
[20:42:42] <zw0r> *takes a bow*

15. Art, Jappe2

[20:49:27] <Jappe2> fuck you
[20:49:34] <Jappe2> i really have nothing to say
[20:49:44] <Jappe2> during the past year i have grown to hate this scene
[20:50:06] <Jappe2> and the total inability of the people in "power" to do anything to this mongoness, the scene has gone to hell
[20:50:19] <Jappe2> so fuck you all idiath cunts
[20:50:34] <Jappe2> there was this blissfull time when i couldnt really care if you guys died or not
[20:51:00] <Jappe2> but nowadays im hoping many of you would just die a horrible painfull death
[20:51:51] <Jappe2> there are few exceptions of course, like kopaka etc
[20:52:20] <Jappe2> also i enjoy trading child porn with ramone, he always has the kinkiest stuff
[20:52:26] <Jappe2> ok im done now

16. Community Award, Kopaka

[20:54:39] <SveinR~> The Community Award goes to a kuski who by the creation and public release of his Automated Cup source code and website, first used on his own very successful cup, has led to an explosion of new cups and made life easier for a lot of cup organizers.
[20:54:49] <SveinR~> His site, which he has maintained for many years, has grown to become the biggest site for external contests in the scene. In addition to his own levels, it includes a wealth of levelpacks by others.
[20:55:01] <SveinR~> Soon the Elasto Mania world will see the release of Elma Online, and a large part of the scene will then revolve around something this guy has been working on for a long time: The Elma Online site.
[20:55:10] <SveinR~> This is a guy who for many many years has contributed to the scene and made the experience of being in it that much better. His contributions certainly has not gone unnoticed, thank you very much and congratulations...
[20:55:19] <SveinR~> Kopaka!

[20:55:45] <Kopaka> thank you everybody who voted!
[20:55:51] <Kopaka> and to sveinr for the nice speech :*
[20:55:58] <SveinR~> :*
[20:56:56] <Kopaka> I hope everyone will enjoy the EOL site once it's released
[20:57:30] <Kopaka> please feel free to contact me for any wishes/bugs ect. for the EOL site so we can make it as good as possible :)
[20:57:57] <Kopaka> I feel like I've kinda neglected kopasite lately, but I have some big plans there once eol is released :p
[20:58:28] <Kopaka> thanks again, I hope we can all enjoy this scene for many years to came, as the last 8 years that I've been here has been great! :*

End speech:

[20:59:30] <SveinR> This brings us, after about 2 hours, to the close of the Golden Apple Awards 2009!
[21:00:12] <SveinR> We hope you enjoyed it, and again congratulations to all the winners, well deserved awards to you all :)
[21:00:40] <SveinR> Thanks to all who voted
[21:01:11] <SveinR> We hope to see you again in about a year, for now, good night!

Getting the most votes from the community means you get 2p. Even if someone gets 100 votes from the community, the Jury's vote can still cancel that out.

Yes, it does appear that most of the jury members are friends of Kopaka. But well, who isn't?
