Alovolt without alias

Post by Lousku »

I don't have an alovolt alias. I have no problem with simply pressing left and right simultaneously. Learned to use it, mastered it and never saw any reason to get used to an alias.

Is this really so uncommon? Until today I thought it was the standard way to alo, but apparently some people don't even believe it's possible.
then again i don't know anything

I use Logitech G15 currently. I've also used at least 4 different keyboards with no alo problems.

I always thought the same way - they usually worked perfectly first go for me.

Try alovolt alias, you don't realise how much you actually fail until you use the alias :P

Sure, I'll try, but I don't think it'll have any effect on my playing. Maybe make my fingers hurt less...

Why not? I'm not talking about supervolt, I'm talking about alovolt without the preceding normal volt.

If you have high fps and no problems, you have a crap keyboard. Before the current hoylcomp-keyboard I was easily able to press brake after pressing enter in beginning of the level, now with current one its impsy, only because theres no delay in teh.

Alovolt is a kind of supervolt (I am assuming you already know what a supervolt is).

The supervolt may be referred to as the "row supervolt." It's when the supervolt is preceded by any kind of volt (including supervolts). Conversely, the alovolt may be referred to as the "alone supervolt". It's when the supervolt is not preceded by any kind of volt whatsoever.

Thus, sometime in 2002 alovolts became more and more prevalent. In "Tricks Abound," for example, at the beginning of the level someone created a new style using alovolt. Computers of the time being "less strong," some people (about half of them, if I remember correctly) were able to perform alovolts, but some were not. That created an unfairness which lasted for quite some time, up until someone in the old bmopolauta (green-colored) forum presented the idea of the "creation of a program that upon pressing some keyboard button would send back to the game the info necessary to produce an alovolt." The problem thus vanished into history. It is unclear how many people independently had the idea for the program before Hibernatus some weeks later implemented it, though. All for all, it can be said that a new era of playing opened itself to the community. The next being, quite farther away in time, when conversations concerning fps-tweaking began to emerge.

EDIT: niN: some potentially usable stuff for the Elasto-Mania documentary. ;)

supervolt is what happens when you press left+right yes, but portal32 is absolutely correct concerning the difference between supervolt and alovolt.

Alovolt = alovolt without a precending normal volt, with or without alias.
Supervolt = alovolt with the help of a precending normal volt.

At least according to Moposite.

supervolt = the actual volt, alo = when it is not preceded by any other volt, hence when it is hard to do (without alias). Left + right or alias, doesn't matter.

nice description portal. i remember i had a keyboard at the time that would not allow me to do an alovolt without the alias (a supervolt unprecedented by any kind of volt). and when i first got into the scene was curious how the wr recs would be able to. alias was actually a really big deal when i got it, made me much better. id look into it LousQ, but then again, maybe it doesnt matter on your keyboard. nonetheless, some things are just easier, like if you have to rapidly go back between alovolting, gas, and break then only having to use one finger for alovolt makes it smoother than having to use two fingers.
