basic oxford english dictionary contains 80 000 words. 80 000^4 = 40960000000000000000 possibilities. With 1000 gueses/sec it is 40960000000000000 seconds, which is 682666666666666 minutes = 11377777777777 hours = 474074074074 days = 1298833079 years = 1 298 833 milleniums.
Some ppl say the world is here for 5 milleniums. Some that for 1000. Doesnt matter really.
Plus, there is possibility, that desired word is not in used dictionary.

with multiple parallel CPUs = ez
plus, there are many other dictionaries around. besides, many ppl are using mix between dictionary word and numbers. pass like 456apple123 is ez to crack (john the ripper), but h3ll0st4rd3st1ny is hard. anyway, i don't think many ppl are using dictionary attacks, just bruteforcing.
