Total Time competition: Trek Tracks

Post by niN »

Trek Tracks Total Time Attack - http://jonsykkel.mooo.com/nindex/

Intro,

Hello guys!

I have a pack of 59 levs made by me and the Hemlin brothers back in 2006 (polished by me recently).
The levels themselves are nothing extra-ordinary and don't expect them to change your view on elma... or anything... They're just... elma levels.

However,
I personally love the feel to the levels and the pack as a whole. They're simple with many unobvious alternative styles and quite a few hoylas in there! imo great for a total time competition! And to quote the great Thor when he tried a second edition of the pack (it's now on it's third edition btw):
"de här banorna är sjukt sköna asså!"
So I decided after mixing them up a little to host them on a website I'm working on. But first, I thought I should just host a total time competition for those who might be interested. I dunno, maybe nobody will play, I recommend you do because like I said: I think the pack has potential in a tt contest.

The concept
The pack is released, and then people will have until saturday 17th of may to get as good of a TT as they can. Winner is the kuski with the best tt.

If there's enough interest and people actually made some effort, then I will give a prize to the winner. Nothing spectacular but a little something something.

I will also give a prize to the kuski with the best overall styles. How to decide who will win this is yet uncertain. But it will be some kind of community decision at least.

Also make a movie when it's over of course!

This will start saturday 15th of february (less than a week to go!!) and the deadling to submit your TT is saturday 17th of may.

Download levels

Rules and summary
a) You MUST drive the times online in the latest version of Elma Online.
b) All times will be hidden in the EOL database until after deadline.
c) Save all your best times replays for sharing with community and video after deadline. (EOL doesn't save recs). Now, upload them here

Objective: Get a total time
Start: saturday 15th of february
End: saturday 17th of may
Number of levels: 59
Prize? yes

Seems like a cool idea! 1 lev per day sounds pretty intense if you really want to compete and get good times, especially as people probably won't be able to play every day.

And, for newfags like my, who are the Hemlin bros?

Yes you are right, a day per lev is very intense. So maybe more? how much you want guys? 3 days per lev? would be max long though. I kinda want this to be over and done in a few months, because if it lingers for too long then I guess interest will fade fast. I see your point though roope. However, maybe half of levs are easy shortish so would never need a full day to get a decent time. But then again there are some pain in the asses in there...

The Hemlin bros are Rapptor and anhe88. But they never really joined the scene. They were with me my first two years of elma and then lost interest and left. They were never remarkable and left before belma. To give them proper credit for the levs practically all were designed by the two of them but the original verisons of the levs are hard to play because of annoying backgrounds and some invisy polygon etc (you know how it is when you discover the levmaking tricks!) So I edited them all and made them playerfriendly. I didn't touch much though, so the original level is pretty much there, behind all the makeup.

ok.. If you want 3 months hoyl time then that means it would end in middle of april (am I right?) which might be tricky for me because I have plans to sail across the atlantic ocean in april... But I could always arrange for someone else to reveal the final results. Also my epic adventure is not fully confirmed so maybe I will be here for april. Either way ppl want then I can arrange.

I would like some more input on this. There must be more ppl with opinions!

3 months can be arranged then!

I will start it next saturday and it will go on until saturday 17th of may.

That if official now but can still change if people insist. However, by sunday it will be irreversible!

I don't know, 59 is quite a lot of levels for 3 months. Maybe you could pick like 15-20 best from them? Surely some of them must be better than others.

Cool lukazz! will be glad to see your magic here

kuchitsu, I kind of disagree here. Or, I don't want to pick few fav ones. This pack is nothing spectacular but together they make a cool pack, so TT contest is only option for this imo. Personally I would hate to separate some of the levs since they all have nostalgic meaning to me. And when 59 levs then it's a real hardcore motherfucking tt contest :D. Like I said, a lot of the levs are short hoyla. Kuskis will have to prioritate a bit, take the deadline in consideration and play tactical. I think that all levs can be finished in a few days (with rather bad times ofc), and then ppl can try to find styles and tactically select where to cut off seconds.

Having said that I will give until next weekend for kuchitsu to raise an army of more agreers and if he does I will obey his demands.

If not, the 59 levs will be published on saturday 15th and end on saturday 17th of may.
Tell your friends!

And as I said, if you hoyl and gimme some cool times I will give winner some prize.

The ones I've played so far have been pretty nice. Can see that "nab" levelmaking style but still quite polished. However, we noticed that in some levels you can see best times in shift + F5 (like Trek04, Trek10), while in other levels the best times are correctly hidden. Weird thing, wonder what makes this happen?

Finished all levs. they seemed very nice, only too many grav levs in my opinion.
Liked use of killers, they`re so rare, and none use them in balle levs
Lets hope there will be many players

thanks elmas :D

And yes I agree about grav. I personally dislike gravity and I actually remade 3-4 of the levs so that I could delete the gravity from them. I decided to keep most gravity levs that are there though because the levels were mainly rapptor and anhe88 levs and I didn't want to take away their personallity. And I'm sure you know that gravity was so much fun when you were beginner levmaker :D And hemlin bros never got too far in their levmaking style, so.

I was busy all last night, but I will look into the unhidden times now. All times appear to be hidden on the website so I will have a word with kopa about ingame.

Keep hoyling guys! Don't lose interest and spread the word to all mans. If we get good hoylsession going then this competition can be epic!

EDIT: it seems kopa fixed already. times ar ehidden now, correct?

Also, requested is personal TT check. I will look into making that asap!

Very nice pack, will höyl. Here comes a big issue for me:
I finished all the levels, wanted to check TT.
I go eolconf.exe and make a pack like all the other working packs I have. (no errors with patterns etc)
I start elma again go inside some trek lev, exit elma, check the .txt file.
It shows only up to 41 levels, and some says it's unfinished and some are not there and many names are at the wrong number of lev.
I tried making a stat.txt with Levstats program too but it didn't work either so I guess there's something with the levels?
Would be nice if you could login to eolsite and check so your times are counted online and check TT (only your own).

no more public, kopaka fixed it. thx for reporting bugs! Eol site has many leaks.

Everything should be fine and fun now. So far good amount of times! 3 months hoyltime still which is long time so no need to be stressed though.

I was thinking to break it up a bit to maybe release average TT every 30 days in the cup? give opinions to it pls.

Good idea I think. That wouldn't be very useful info for top players, only motivation for players below average, which is good. Any revelation that would be useful for top players would likely piss some of them off.

WR TT keeps ticking down. Awesome guys!

Lee, if you make a TT here I promise I will make TT in your contest ;)

I think we have like 5-6 tts already which is very nice. I can't see any more stats than you guys except WRs, so even I don't know exact nr of TTs, only what I've heard from chat.

I agree about revealing average TT every 30 days. Imo, would be big deadspace between start and end without any kind of ceremony, and when ppl see avg tt they might be like "hoyly shit, I am nat far behind avg! must hoyl!"

Announcement!

mans have been semi complaining, or call teh almost whining. or maybe not even that but at least annoyingly pointing out that the concept of completely hidden times is stupid!

For me it doesn't matter, I want to do it the way we can get most participants. So I am telling now that nothing is too late yet, however ofc it will still be a TT contest in the end because that is said!

As far as stats revealing goes, anything can still be done. I offer a few suggestions here:

1) I have few ceremonys every X days where I present some stats (WRTT, AVGTT, some WRS, improvements, kinglist etc etc)

B) WRTT is public all-ways

Z) everything is pubic

Please comment on this if you care. If you don't care then accept whatever way is chosen like a non-baby!

Re: Total Time competition: Trek Tracks

hmm... ok. Well, in that case I'm going to go with option 1. I will announce a few stats every once in a while.

As I've said before, all stats and active recordtables will be hosted after the contest on a new site by me. For now, enjoy the tt competition or simply hoyl for wrs! They will be more noticed after the contest, and if they're good enuff then they will be in the movie ofc.

Imo, the deadline is far to long off, you guys asked for three months hoyltime but I'm pretty sure there will be no players driving new times the last month, but heck. It doesn't really matter! Enuff of this, here's some stats:

Stats 22/2/2014

WRTT: 37:04,60, quite teh juicy min break there. 5 secs away! not that hard. Mans killed about a minute and 40 secs between tuesday-thursday which was interesting to see.

Here's a little list of WR holders right now:

1. finman 11 wrs
1. Pab 11 wrs
3. Bjenn 8 wrs
----------------
4. Hosp 7 wrs
5. anpdad 5 wrs
6. adi 4 wrs
6. ElrondMcBong 4 wrs
8. Lousku 2 wrs
8. Jamppa 2 wrs
8. Zero 2 wrs
-----------------
11. nick-o-matic 1 wr
11. Juish 1 wr
11. Zweq 1 wr

There are 7 wrs that are over a minute.

Trek50 is a bounty lev. What this means is that whoever has WR in it next time stats are given (next weekend) will get special secret prize after TT trek tracks competition is done.

More stats will come!

If you want real competition in the contest, you should show all records public like every week or so, like on moposite (=D).
That way people can get a hunch on what to hoyl to gain time.

Totaltimes should imo be hidden at all times, except WR TT.

If it were like this it would be awesome in my opinion

Waaat, why? TT, sure, that doesn't reveal any styles, but like in battles, when you see someone has a much better time than you in a level, you know there's a style just waiting for you to find it. Revealing wr's is a huge change to this contest.

At least have a poll on it?
then again i don't know anything
maybe easier not to think abouut alöl things thought than not things thought ... or something..=?

ingame the general opinion seems to be for all public. Some people say they're not sure and a few are against it.

I guess I'll make a poll and let community decide completely. ofc I wanna please everyone but it's hard when ppl have so diffrent opinions and some share, and others just whine ingame.

Poll will be made soon. After poll deadline then whatever poll decided will be permanent, period!

ps. WRTT already quite the long ways under 37 :) Good job kuskis!

EDIT: if you're playing, vote!

Stats 1/3/2014

WRTT: 35:38,72 Fucking awesome job guys! Easily under that 37 min break! 36 seemed no problem.
35 is next and not half way there yet, but judging from your superjump this week, I guess it shouldn't be too hard. Question is: will people do it?

I wont tell too much stats since a vote is going on about how stats should be revealed in the future, on wednesday we will know 100% what will happen. Until then here's a little something to enjoy:

WR holders have changed a bit!
1. finman 24
2. adi 10
3. Bjenn 6
------------------
4. Hosp 5
5. nick-o-matic 4
6. anpdad 2
6. Juish 2
6. Pab 2
6. Zero 2
10. Jamppa 1
------------------
10. Zweq 1

Now, only 6 WRs are over a minute!

Bounty was won by adi with his time 47,19. Good job! adi will be given tribute in the Trek Tracks movie which will be made after the competition. I cant say exactly how yet but he will ofc be presented as a god!

The poll has ended and from now on only the Total time will be public through irregular updates in this thread (basically what that means I will try to update around once every week, but if I'm away travelling then it might be a few days delayed etc). For those who wanted more stats then I will give a little carrot each time I share TT (something like nom said in the poll thread), but it will not be any revealing stats at all ofc because we had a vote.
nick-o-matic wrote:I suggest that you should arrange the ceremonies with total TT announcements as well as some random interesting stats announcements.
for example: X number of levs were improved, maybe some chart to show how WRTT is being improved?

But ye, because we had a vote then personal stats will be completely hidden until after deadline! So keep playing and kill the levs :)

A little note on the final gala: It will be made pretty interesting. Everything will have been hidden ofc, so I will reveal peoples times lev by lev starting from 01 ending on 59 etc.
Also, peoples TT standings will be continuously updated as levs are revealed. I will present it like a live race, imagine winter olympic skiing with gates showing times and skiers position. Where the Trek levels will be like the skiing gates.

I will also make a site for peoples to upload their best time replays for me to use in the movie. This site will be up about a week or so before deadline so that kuskis will have time to upload all 59 recs (and ofc you will be able to replace recs if you beat your time). When the deadline has passed I will start working on the Trek Tracks movie as soon as possible and hopefully I can release it within a week after the ending gala (this is very unclear yet. Might be hard because I'm working in Iceland at that time, but I will try!) And if that will be the case, then I think I will not share the recs until after the video is published so you guys can enjoy the WRs with some proper good music too! :)

Keep ahoylin! The WRTT is ticking down as usual. I will post it again on friday when I'm at the elma meeting with ramone and luther and the other swedes! Try to get it below 35 by then :) not far to go!

I thought the stats that you revealed before was perfect, sad to see it getting more restrictive.
But like in all democratic communities, the majority have spoken. :P

Okay now that I think afterward it's best to have wr times hidden, to make it more exciting and stuff. And to not make ppl see and think "omg what did I miss on that lev, I better go brain it some more". Now all players must think from scratch.

Awesome contest niN!! Very very good feeling.
The levels are fucking imba. I don't have mega motivation but I will try hoyl as many levels as I can.
My team is not playing this contest, but I co-operate with others.
