I was shocked when I found out x-moto was in Linux Debian testing repository. Wow, natively in Linux and also in windowed mode. I once again installed it (v1.1) and I feel so bad that the physics feel so unreal. Otherwise the game looks very good and has nice features. Also I couldn't map 'brake' to left alt. That's a letdown!

I don't think the physics have changed much. I love the facts that X-Moto is
  • -Free
    -Open source
    -Has many nice features
    -Looks nice
    -Natively Linux
But it all comes down to the physics, which I dislike... they just feels so unrealistic after Elma. Sad because otherwise X-Moto is extremely delicious.

Btw I was playing version 0.2.7 which seems to be the latest.

Don't you think X-Moto is full of bad ideas which prevent it from becoming as fun as Elma?

For example, any programmer can cheat (easier than in Elma)

The "download levs from game" -thing kills the interest in internals, and it kills any motivation to make fan sites with contests etc. People only play the hundreds of crappy levs added to the game automatically.

And new features were developed too quickly (quantity before quality), so now it takes minutes to load when there are too many levs, the moving polygons are useless because it's not handled correctly by the physics engine, etc.

IMHO, X-Moto is dead in the egg, we really need an Elma 2 by Balazs.

After milagros we don't really need anything other than ballelma.
Was it cast for the mass who burn and toil?
Or for the vultures who thirst for blood and oil?

Yeah, besides that very need of elma 2 you're right JP. Let's say we're lucky we don't have to play this.

Framerate

Post by Ysangkok »

If you get crappy framerate in X-Moto, it's probably because you don't have hardware-accelerated OpenGL. You can run the game with a lower resolution like this:

Code: Select all

xmoto -win -res 640x480 -ugly
This is probably a thing about X-Moto which is both good and bad. Good thing is that it will be nicer and faster on new computers. Bad thing is that it'll be the opposite on older ones.

Great idea! The pack could be called like "X-Moto - We Copy Elma"
Out of curiosity, has anyone done this yet?

I "copied" one level, called it "Tribute to X-Moto". I even got the bumpy ground wheels spinning thing to happen! Haven't played X-Moto in years though.

There must be a reason the spambot chose the X-moto thread over all others.

about the same, players have come and gone throughout the years. no one is really active tho nowadays, last wr was 03.22.2019 (not too hard to take wr since there are like 3300 levs so you just need to find the most unhoyled ones but also it takes a while for mods to verify wrs bc thats how it works there)

i can make in the future then. ofc impsy make all bc there are 3300 levs and im not that sadistic and staminatic also some of the levs are like 15 mins long (poss ff material? duno if lev poss in elma). there is one main hoyla pack in xmoto which has been out for 10+ years (aero's training) which consists of 15 levs. i could remake that or more if inspired or maybe on demand too
