Maybe now is a good time to give some extra time to watch the movies? Not even a single pair where I've seen both :(

Nice, many enjoyable movies to look forward to then IMO. All of these are pretty amazing/good at the very least. I think only standout "meh" to me is Birdman personally. Was ok but nowhere close to these others.

Intouchables VS Spotlight Spotlight suffers from the same "problems" as Zero Dark Thirty, it's well-made but a bit too heavy to sit through. To some degree I still want to be entertained and while Spotlight is a great movie the replay value and heart of Intouchables makes it my choice.
Ex Machina VS Gravity
Gisaengchung / Parasite VS The Martian
Interstellar VS The Big Short Zero Dark Thirty/Spotlight all over again.
The Wolf of Wall Street VS The Dark Knight Rises
Room VS Arrival
Django Unchained VS Whiplash
Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) VS Inception

Thanks Sveinr, just watched Wolf of Wall Street. I thought movie was 8.5 out of ten. Movie was very funny and raw at the same time. on some level I think guys can relate to wanting to live that type of lifestyle. Was better than dark knight rises for me, personally I am just not into action thriller type movies, same goes for all the marvel movies, just not that into them. Going to watch Gravity tonight, and will probably watch Parasite tomorrow :) i hear good things!

Honestly, Gravity requires a cinematic environment to indulge you enough. I watched it on notebook screen and I guess that's why I didn't find it very interesting in particular. You need the big screen and good audio. Parasite though, can be watched anywhere and anyhow and it still will be a great flick.

For me this is the first round in which I actually have seen all the movies. But the decision making is getting harder. Martian/Parasite was the toughest call here for my.

Intouchables VS Spotlight
Ex Machina VS Gravity
Gisaengchung / Parasite VS The Martian
Interstellar VS The Big Short
The Wolf of Wall Street VS The Dark Knight Rises
Room VS Arrival
Django Unchained VS Whiplash

Intouchables VS Spotlight
Ex Machina VS Gravity - idk here. Saw Gravity today and I can say that both films were good, but none were mind-blowing. I vote for Gravity, but I won't be disappointed if Ex Machina wins here
Gisaengchung / Parasite VS The Martian
Interstellar VS The Big Short - easiest decision of this round.
The Wolf of Wall Street VS The Dark Knight Rises

I fear the next round, coz I have a feeling that some of my personal favorites might hit each other

My votes:

Intouchables VS Spotlight Haven't seen Spotlight... I very much doubt I would rate it higher than Intouchables but I'll let those who have seen both decide...
Ex Machina VS Gravity
Gisaengchung / Parasite VS The Martian
Interstellar VS The Big Short
The Wolf of Wall Street VS The Dark Knight Rises I love the Nolan Batman series, but this is probably the weakest one - also I am a big fan of all the Scorsese/DiCaprio collaborations
Room VS Arrival Haven't seen Room - Arrival is brilliant though
Django Unchained VS Whiplash
Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) VS Inception Kinda tough call, but if think about which I remember most vividly and most want to watch again I suppose it goes to Inception
Was it cast for the mass who burn and toil?

**spoiler alerts**

Intouchables VS Spotlight - watched Intouchables yesterday and was okay, but not enough time to watch spotlight.
Ex Machina VS Gravity - watched gravity today and thought it was super cheesy, surprised how much people like it actually and that it made it this far.
Gisaengchung / Parasite VS The Martian - I watched Parasite yesterday, was very hard choice, but ultimately this movie was very rewatchable and i love how the dude just goes on a murdering rampage at the end. it had a bigger picture in mind that the viewer had to figure out themselves and I liked that about it.
Interstellar VS The Big Short - again surprised the big short made it over something like shutter island for example
The Wolf of Wall Street VS The Dark Knight Rises - saw this recently and really liked Leo's acting in it
Room VS Arrival - watched Room for this competition and wow what a downer movie, not for relaxing night after work. I liked it nonetheless, but Arrival just had cool concepts about the alien language and I am a sucker for 4th dimension shit.
Django Unchained VS Whiplash - I watched Whiplash and Django for this competition and Whiplash was good, but just too simple for me. I love Quentin Tarantino movies and Django fit in with his normal style of directing
Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) VS Inception - just another great Dicaprio movie

As a side note I guess elma community thinks Leonardo Dicaprio is the best actor of the 10s? He plays a big role in 3 of these movies, also shutter island and the revenant should have made it further IMO.

I wouldn't say he's the best actor atm, but he tends to be very picky about his movies, and kinda "happened" to star in a lot of my favourites :)

edit:
In fact, out of his 29 released movie credits I saw 17, with an average rating of 7.3, and 6 8+ ratings, which is a pretty darn good average o/

I would certainly say he is one of the best actors of his generation (the Oscar win for The Revenant was long overdue) - also, like pawq mentioned, he almost exclusively decides to do quality, interesting movies. He's also now obviously in a very privileged position which gives him the freedom to pick and choose his projects very carefully.

RESULTS: CUP ROUND 3

Intouchables 4 VS 3 Spotlight
Ex Machina 5 VS 5 Gravity see details below
Gisaengchung / Parasite 6 VS 4 The Martian
Interstellar 9 VS 1 The Big Short

Amazingly, Christopher Nolan still has three movies left in the competition!

Of the remaining 8 movies, all were group winners in the group stage except The Dark Knight Rises
Django Unchained and Black Swan are the highest scoring group stage movies which are no longer in the competition (they both got 18 points in the group stage - only two movies got a higher score)

Intouchables VS Whiplash very hard, diff movies and diff mood and love both... but duno Whiplash was still so amaze to me when spyed. Maybe rewatching factor is higher with Intouchables though
Arrival VS The Dark Knight Rises Not mega fan of Arrival as everyone else, but also again didn't think 3rd Dark Knight was that amazing anyway so not too hard choice still
Gisaengchung / Parasite VS Inception Parasite still a little overrated to me (don't get me wrong, still total amaze cool spy and all). And Inception was just vov
Interstellar VS Gravity Whoever gives this win to Gravity is obviously total retard.. sorry but true

Intouchables VS Whiplash
Arrival VS The Dark Knight Rises
Gisaengchung / Parasite VS Inception Inception overrated. Most of Nolan's movies always some random paradox, bass and annoying exposition.
Interstellar VS Gravity Almost retarded here. Interstellar is overrated and I enjoy the rollercoaster ride of Gravity with awesome visuals, sound effects and symbolism (although I too find it quite cheesy). So close to full retard!

Arrival VS The Dark Knight Rises
Gisaengchung / Parasite VS Inception
Interstellar VS Gravity

Wow I had no idea about this competition.

I like Nolan, but honestly his films are overrated. Why three of them in final 8? Parasite is ez best movie of the decade imo.

Have actually not seen Intouchables so cannot vote on that vs. Whiplash, but I'd probably give it to Intouchables because Whiplash was quite meh.

EDIT: How the fuck did Scott Pilgrim, Into the Spider-Verse and Grand Budapest Hotel all lose in the group stage? Best films of the decade along with Parasite and Arrival.

Intouchables VS Whiplash - I guess I need to watch Whiplash tonight. If I do, I change this reply edit: god damn it, Whiplash was so very fucking good. I thought it will be much easier deciding. I am gonna still vote for Intouchables, but at least I know now why so many people voted for Whiplash.
Arrival VS The Dark Knight Rises - I mean, Arrival was very good, but after all is said and done it was just one of the many alien movies I've seen before.
Gisaengchung / Parasite VS Inception - tough one, but Inception was a tad bit more amazing
Interstellar VS Gravity - obv, Interstellar is a masterpiece

Voting is so hard when I watched half the movies in the last week and the other half some 5+ years ago :p

Intouchables VS Whiplash - was going to watch whiplash today but probably not bothering
Arrival VS The Dark Knight Rises - Arrival had a really interesting idea but just way too boring build up, Dark Knight rises enjoyable through out and such
Gisaengchung / Parasite VS Inception - I loved the build up in Parasite but ending felt kind of random, inception I didn't totally love but remember it as a more completely movie
Interstellar VS Gravity - well.. Gravity I've rewatched some 3 times and it's equally exciting every time, I really love intersteller too, this would probably be my preferred final

The voting lasts through Sunday 6th December, 23:59 CET (GMT+1). If you post your votes after the deadline, they may still be included, as long as I haven't yet posted the results.

Interstellar VS Inception 10/10 vs 9/10
Arrival VS Whiplash 7,5ish/10 vs 9/10

both decisions were very easy for me actually this time.
