Fancy LGR

Post by Lee »

Please see latest post.

Explanation

This is designed to be the most fucked up Default LGR that no one should use. This version fails to address a number of issues with the already perfect default LGR and introduces new and useless features. The main feature of this LGR is the addition of 91 colour textures. In the first iteration the colours were picked algorithmically through a process of elimination to leave an even distribution of remaining colours. However, that did not take optics into account. Therefore the final 91 colours were selected by eye. Earlier iterations also included a variety of new masks (squares, circles, and other shapes). These extra shapes made for a rather great mask list and, from my experience, enhanced the overall level making process, and were therefore removed. However, I have since added some of these back in as they turned out to be a little fucked up.

List of impairments

:wheel: Basic:
  • Fucked:
    • Transparent corners of 'maskbig', 'maskhor', and 'masklitt' have been filled in.
    • Transparent holes in players' forarm and susp2 images have been filled in.
    • Expanded sky background for seamless tiling.
    Added:
    • Fancyboosted, of course.
    • Addition of 'masktiny' (3x3), and 'masktop' (from 'st3top' picture).
    • Addition of 'round1' and 'round2' masks (small circles).
    • qframe is now a useable texture named 'frame'.
    • 91 colour textures. Refer to the below chart to find your desired colour.
:wheel: Fucked Edition:
  • Smooth grass:
    Image
  • 'qframe' is black.
    Image
  • Different sky tiling.
    Image
:wheel: More Fucked Up Edition:
  • Object frames.
    Image
Note: This LGR is compatible with all levels made using the original Default.lgr as well as any other improved, fixed, fancyboosted, or other fucked up variants, except for the idiot version included with EOL.zip with the broken masks and stuff like that.

Dont use this lgr. changing masksizes makes so much horror. we had this trouble before for years. finally been ok for abit. but this is what causing all shit. Dont add new masksizes. its useless. ppl use default lgr (or other, buit still same 3 mask sizes. also cant change size of available masksizes. are u stupid? when ppl make levs then all old levs look shit. when players use this lgr (or any other with changed sizes of default mask size) you know how much trouble this caused for ppl who spent 100s of hours making sick levs and then they look like shit cause ppl have dif sizes of masks, named same?

sunl allready explained. boosted exists. cant change now. will only cause a mess.

if someone use your new mask mini. it will be unmaksed for others. for YEARS some idiot added a "fixed" lgr as default lgr in eol.zip

this caused: flawed levels for wc6. ppl using masktop to fill smalled gaps. but almost all players see some halfdone masking job. caused players to make levels and send for wc9 and spend maybe 100h to realize they dont use a boosted lgr. they use ANOTHER lgr.
boosted is addition to an lgr. not a new lgr. this lgr can be used if make lgr lev. and select like Lee.lgr. like trinity lgr and legendary matrix levels (now, trinity lgr is one of few lgr that change colour palette from default, so if boost it colours are wrong)

We spent years to get rid of these fucking up idiot "fixed" lgrs spread around scene, and you try do it again?

Pls do like sunl, think before you act. ty.

best regards Ramone. This is NOT enhanced lgr. its fucked up lgr.

This is also why I have to remask many levels for WC (and have in the past too) cause they use wrong mask size. so masking is outside area and lev full of maskerror. your lgr is no enhancement AT ALL. its a big ducking problem.

your skill could do so much good. so pls think or talk to someone before spead this shit.

pls delete this topic. Leek can make a new and up lgr as an lgr. not as a ULTIMATE version of default, as it is nothing of the sort. it will only make elma life AHRD!

Immensely disrespectful posts (and worse in Discord) and handled in such a disagreeable manner tbh.

Maybe the problem you're having is frustrating but I can't abide by your approach here.

New Update!

Image

This update includes new 'round1' and 'round2' masks. They are named 'round' rather than 'circle' so that they appear underneath the other masks in alphabetical order. 'Round1' mask is 5x5 pixels, and 'round2' mask is 15x15 pixels. I want to add some larger circles, but I'm having a hard time finding optimal sizes.

In my onion the ElmaOnline.zip should be updated to include this as the new default LGR. That way everyone will have it and use it.

Leek. ppl wanted to upgrade levs they sent for wc by doing sick visuals. and then they used what they though was fancy boosted lgr. Now more ppl used your lgr for this. thinking they use a fancyboosted default lgr. pls rename thread and change discription. when ppl search for it they find this. very ungood.

Hello Leek!

Very nice that you are still perfecting your LGR. But as the EOL/WC9 admins have said, there are compatibility problems with these LGR's. Please fix the following problems:
- all masks should be of same size than in original default LGR (including all transparent pixels in corners). Otherwise the levels won't look same for all people.
- all masks should be named with lowercase letters as in original LGR. Uppercase letters cause problems with Smibu's SLE if it uses default LGR.

These compatibility problems have caused problems especially with WC9 levels.

Hey, zebra! Thanks for being a shining example of how to properly critique someone's work.

I didn't know that about the 2nd point. That explains why the wrong texture is sometimes used on the elma.online rec player.
As it is, you should stop using this LGR. It was decided over a month ago now that this LGR should instead be named something like Fancy.lgr if it is to be distributed with Elma Online in a somewhat official capacity. I will think about how best to construct this Fancy.lgr and report back with a working example.

Since there are a million default lgrs out in the world now, each with issues affecting overall compatibilty, I have made the definitive default lgr. This version has only the most necessary changes, otherwise preserving the original appearance of the game. There are four changes total:

Expanded Sky
Image
My version of expanded sky has smoother curves than the other janky version, and is also the exact same dimensions as the other version. Mine is better.

Transparency Holes Fixed
Image
Most people probably never noticed this error, but it's always bugged me. Once you see it, you can't unsee it.

Kilobytes Saved!
Image
No visual impact at all, but I noticed that the ground texture is the same thing seven times, so I made it smaller to save some kilobytes on file size.

Fancyboosted
Obviously.

Also, the upper/lower case problem zebra pointed out is no issue here. This thing is good to go and should be the one bundled with EOL, and I think it would get the Ramone tick of approval. However, before releasing yet another lgr into the ecosystem, I would like some confirmation from others that this is indeed the one that people should have and use going forward.

Note that my improved default lgr is still a go and will be released under a different name. I am hoping it will be bundled with EOL too, alongside the aforementioned definitive default lgr.

My improved default lgr will now be called Fancy.lgr. This lgr name doesn't yet exist, so there will be no compatibility issues. Anyone playing a level made using this lgr will be notified in game that they don't have the correct lgr. The same can't be said for default lgrs that use fancyboost images.
https://api.elma.online/u/dzzc8knavp/Fancy.lgr

The lgr is based on the optional features seen in the first post, i.e. everything except the object frames.
Additionally there are 4 extra masks named round1-round4. Round1 and 2 are rather small but also rather useful. Round3 is bigger still and the same size as the biker's head, while Round4 is the same size as a wheel or object. I don't know how useful these new masks are just yet. I would like some feedback. Lastly, I added in qfood3-6 with arrows representing gravity directions. These are optional of course, and gravity must still be manually set.

You can start using this lgr to make levels. If you do, don't yet use the round masks or gravity apples. I'm not sure if they will be kept in, but please play around with them and feedback any suggestions or requests. Remember to use the colour chart above.

============================================

I have also made a collection of Super Mario pipes for anyone to use in their levels. This is designed to be viewed and edited in SLE. Instructions can be found inside the level below. You will need Fancy lgr. Don't open the level while online. It isn't meant to be played.
https://api.elma.online/u/zaof5c23ld/Su ... oPipes.lev

Check out this video for an example of how to use the pipe graphics.

Thanks Leek! Seems like a massive effort! I hope that this will be good and accepted as the default eol lgr.

Thanks for the effort Leek. I'll add these to steam eol. Any idea on the timeframe for finalizing Fancy.lgr? I know you're not getting a lot of feedback here, so maybe try discord #levelmaking
