do you need grass and pictures to win lom?

Post by Juish »

i was on #across and people dont think its possible to win lom without grass or pictures.

there are 3 thing that depend points for lom
1) theme (ez major points there.)
2) playibility (Ez to make a playable lev.)
3) visual (its a bit hard but there can be a lev that has better visual without grass and pictures [EX. insane guy] than a lev with.)

so whats the problem with winning lom without grass or pictures? I think the judges may be a bit bias towards grass and pictures.

i decided to try to get high points on the bounce theme with a lev that doesnt have grass or pictures, maybe win.

Write your veiws here. u think someone can win without grass or pictures?

I think u can do it, but then u have to have alot of "art" in it, and not some sloppy things like ugly spikes or something.
And it has to be a solid level!

It is possible to win lom without grass or pictures, but I don't advise trying it unless you can make them look as good as insane guy's levels.

Go for it. I'm curious to see where you come.
Just be sure to use lots of frame polygons. That makes it look good I think.

It's Framework (internal) style levels I guess, maybe that's what devin said, I'm not sure. :] Much work for nothing in my opinion.

it can look good
also, if you make a long, skinny polygon that stretches just beneath the level it looks good

isnt there criteria on how the lev looks or something?
everyone knows that levs with no pics look stupid and some people choose to skip them.
aint possible
but after reading this thread maybe the judges will be a bit BIAS to what your saying

You can make ok looking levs without grass or pics, like someone said it needs all kinds of tricks like "frame" style and some other forms and not just boring "fat" ground. But I think lom levs needs to be more visual so at grass is a must and why not few wel placed pics.

I haven't used pics for some time but textures instead of them

You can if the subject is minimalism!

yea chux!
yea juish cool thread!
i hate making grass, so i almost never use it...
for lom theme minimalism i made a lev with no grass and very few pics, because i think a minimalistic lev shouldnt have good visuality....
if you skip any lev without grass, youre just stupid, so you dont deserve to play that lev as well... i also think you need grass to win lom, but you can get on a high rank (theme jungle in my case)without... this sucks a bit, or wait? didnt some of the winning levs have had no grass? what about that greek metropolis that won time ago...
anyway, ill keep making levs without grass, its more stylish or something, i think...
have a nice week end

2. D0205L02 Klink Klonk BarTek [CF]
...no grass

3. D0205L03 Fruit Factory MP [CF]
...no grass OR pics eh eh and vis points 22, only thing that was bad accroding to judges was playability which is completely wrong I say, it's very höyläable in my opinion

It's a good idea to use grass and pics, but you don't have to. One of the things I think makes a good level is playability. A lot of Insane Guy's levels are really good, but don't have grass.

Dude, Olliz is back!
Olliz makes great levs!
