Right now I'm reading nothing. Last two books I read were Unfinished Tales by J.R.R. and Christopher Tolkien, and Tales From The Perilous Realm by J.R.R. Tolkien. I think I'm gonna start reading The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide by Douglas Adams soon.

I read them in English if they're written in English.

OF course reading is much exciting.....what does the movie leave for the watcher?....absolutely nothing....a book you can be a great part inyourself...building the landscapes and the scenes in your head.....creating the most perfect fantasy....it´s wonderfull to flote away in a fantasy-epos and forget the real world for some hours :)

Yes. 'The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide' is a collection of: 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy', 'The Restaurant at the End of the Universe', 'Life, the Universe and Everything', 'So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish', 'Mostly Harmless' and the short story 'Young Zaphod Plays It Safe'. This collection is in fact such an extremely high amount of funny gathered in such a small place that it has been known to threaten the universe to collapse upon its own hilarity. Read it.

Wheel of Time books are my favorite, too bad last volume I've red was 8 - Path of Daggers, because polish publisher hasn't issue Winter's Heart yet, not to mention Crossroads of Twilight 8O
I red Lord of the Rings few years ago, great book, I also like Forgotten Realms books, espiecially these with Drizzt.

The lord of the rings is a trilogy. Originally there are three books. but you can buy them all in one big book. If you look closely in that big book, you will find three big headlines:
Book 1: The Fellowship of the Ring
Book 2: The Two Towers
Book 3: The Return of The King

Sorry, wrong.

There are six books, often published in three volumes, with two books in each. The work that the Lord Of The Rings is, however, was written as one piece of work. Tolkien intended it to be published in a whole, but the publisher found the book too big for that (plus there were some paper strikes in England at the time), so Tolkien agreed for it to be published in three volumes.

You're missing the point. When Tolkien wrote the book (note: book, not books), he did not intend for them to be a trilogy. And of course, what the author says is the only thing that matters.

I know that... but 3 books still makes it a trilogy in my opinion, even if it weas meant to be one.

the lord of the rings movie was orginally written as 6 movies before they made it into 3, i kno this doesnt really have relevence but it doesnt matter wot the hell it was written as it wot it is produced at that count,

eg if JK Rowling had written all harry potter books at once would it be one book, or would it remain as a series of 7

You can´t say it´s not a trilogy because the auther tought of making one book first....It just came out to be an triology so that´s what you should call it....So if you like in the books it stands that it is an triology too so....

Read what SveinR said. It didn't "come out" to be a trilogy, it was made and intended as a single book, but it was published as a trilogy. What we call it is just a technicality anyway, and it's definitely not what the thread is supposed to be about.
Hehe, see the connection? The thread was written as a book thread, but produced as a thread about whether LoTR is a trilogy. Should we call it a book thread or a lotr thread? :)

Mmkay, I started on The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide, The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy yesterday. Finished it today, it was very good and very funny :) So today I'll start on The Restaurant At The End Of The Universe.

Sorry for starting off-topic LOTR-not-trilogy discussion :)

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series were awesome. Great reading, great fun. Douglas Adams was an ingenious writer, too bad he died two years ago

I don't think I'm gonna read anything for a while, not until we start reading some book at school. I heard we were gonna read "The Catcher In The Rye" in English this year, I'm looking forward to it.

I read Catcher In the Rye in school too. I don't think Holden is stupid. I think he's very cool but of course he does some stupid things. Pheobe is sweet

We saw a documentary about the author and the book. (He lives in exile now 8O ) Lots of kids comitted suicide after reading it when it came out. So be carefull that you don't relate to much to Holdens problems. :?

I love how apathic he is some times. Here's the opening passage:

"If you really want to hear about it, the first thing you'll probably want to know is where I was born, and what my lousy childhood was like, and how my parents were occupied and all before they had me, and all that David Copperfield kind of crap, but I don't feel like going into it, if you want to know the truth."

He's such a realistic, and hence, annoying, character.

Right now I'm reading "Syden" by Are Kalvø. Funny stuff. :)
