Level numbers in level name

Post by Ramone »

Hi, last night, as usual I was a bit bored. So I sat and played some elma, and started to play the Max Internals; very cool levels. Fun to cruise and see what shortcuts are possible. So then I started to play Long haul, I found better and better style, just small things, but it was very fun. And finally I made what I wanted, under a minute: 58:xx :D
It was a very good run, my second time was only 1:02. So then it felt unneccesary to play that level anymore, cause beating that would take too much energy, and after all, there is not (at least not that I knwo off) even a recordlist for Max´s. I watched my replay a few times, really nice end ye
So I started playing Hi Flyer, made 1:0x:xx something in my 1st finish but I could see faster was very very possible. Played a few runs and 50:xx. Then, I realised I had saved Hi Flyer replay as: Max06ram!!!! That is, I saved over my Long Haul replay. Fucking shit... that made me mad.. I played 06 again, must get better, but I was kinda mad (got 1:00:xx few times) but couldnt beat, so after 15 mins or so I gave it up and went to bed.
Now, why did I save over it, cause the levels has no names! just:
External:
then empty, and how the hell can I keep track of the nrs of all levels? Same with other levs milagros made: Mirror and Mini Internals! And that is dam annoying, cause many levs you dotn know what nr they have. And then you save rec like: MaxFrame (or likewise) which, of course suck... and when you mistakenly save over replays like I did, it annoys. So WHY (I have asked myself this before, and when I play externals with just names and not nrs it really annoys me too, like i can remember which out of 15-55 levels I might play) did you, Milagros not write the names and nrs on the levels? You want credit by making those levs, which are cool, but are to lazt to type names? I bet with your programming skills you dotn even have to type, you could just paste. Not really much work at all, but it would save lotsa work for others. And now it is too late to change, if someone else than me even cared, cause ppl might allready have times on these levels.
So next time you see Milagros, remember, as him why, why no nrs in levels. Be sure to blame him some, make him be ashamed. Well.. not that it will affect him. Like I would be ashamed if someone attacked (if this is even an attack) me of equal.
This was just fucking annoying to me.
I mean: 01
02
03
04
05 etc
would have been all needing.
And dont defence yourself with the fact that all ppl know whick levels has which nrs. Cause we dont! I dont, and I wont.
I´ll have to beat my 58 one day though....

btw. why no one make a recordtable for max internals? They are so much better than miniones. Most levs are really cool. 8)

I cant find them either, I asked in #across once and i was told to "look on Moposite"
They must be around here somewhere...
I dream of a world where chickens can cross the road without their motives being questioned.

Guilty _o/

I agree with everything that's been said so far, it's extremely annoying to finish a level in a pack that doesn't have level numbers in the name, and then guess which number it is and overwrite another rec. The best way to avoid that is to call it minixxxx.rec (if it's a mini level rec), and then rename it afterwards, but that's a lot of work.

I don't know if this is a problem anymore, but anyway, I wrote this little program which sets the level name to the filename. Just drag&drop the levels to the program icon, or if you prefer, run levelnamer.exe from the command prompt with the levels as arguments.

Get the program here: http://albin.abo.fi/~rasundst/LevelNamer.exe
