Which key for alovolt?

Which key for alovolt?
O.k, obviously n00b q. I just used alovolt for the first time like 5mins ago and I can't figure out which key to assign it to. 'shift' is too far, and 'z' and '0/ins' make coordination awkward-I can't press 'space' and 'right' respectively. What key is most popularly used and how long until I get used to it?
Edit: I can press 'space' or 'right', except my brain won't tell my fingers too.
That reminds me, try this: While sitting at your desk, lift your right foot off the floor and make clockwise circles. Now, while doing this, draw the number "6" in the air with your right hand. Your foot will change direction and there's nothing you can do about it.

i use 0/ins key as alovolt and space as turn... it just feels better that way for me

Well, I don't think there is a key that is used very much more than others. You will just have to choose one that fits you. And if it doesn't, well, eventually you'll probably get used to it.psteve wrote:What key is most popularly used and how long until I get used to it?
Scary....damn.psteve wrote:While sitting at your desk, lift your right foot off the floor and make clockwise circles. Now, while doing this, draw the number "6" in the air with your right hand. Your foot will change direction and there's nothing you can do about it.
I really didn't understand the footy thing, because i could just draw a "6".
I use:
UPkey: Gas
DOWNkey: Brake/Taking A Break
LEFTkey: Volting AntiClockwise
RIGHTkey: Volting Clockwise
SPACEbar: Switching Direction/Lookaround (haha, with 'centered view' )
NUMPAD0/Insert: Volting Double Clockwise
I used SHIFT for alo before, but I tried this button, since more ppl used that one, and I don't know if was my n00biness back then and my superskillz now, or just better laid out buttons, but I got better results with alo now.

This is turning very much like this http://www.moposite.com/mopolauta/viewtopic.php?t=246 thread, so if you don't have anything else to say than what buttons you use, post there instead of here.
That thread could also be of relevance to psteve's original post, as he there can look at many more kuski's preferred buttons, thus seeing which is most commonly used for alovolt.

Damn, it's making me think about how the whole world was made, that simple move just made my whole life change ....psteve wrote:...while sitting at your desk, lift your right foot off the floor and make clockwise circles. By the way, i use :
Left = Left arrow
Right = Right arrow
Accelerate = Up arrow
Brake = Down arrow
Switch side = Space
Alovolt = 0 / insert ( closest to the right arrow, natural for me to choose it )
Anyone who doesn't use that is all mixed up in his head... these are the most natural commands i found

well i used to use arrow keys until i had to use a laptop, then there was no button nearby for alovolt! so i had to change it all and now i'm too used to it to go backzworqy wrote:OMG, crushed fingers... or are you a one-hand driver?sierra wrote:Gas = P

I didn't think i would use ALO, so I put it on "c" just to have it somewhere, and test it every once in a while.
Ended up using it all the time and now "c" feels perfect. I dont really think it matters that much what key you put it on, its in our nature to adapt to changes(even if you put it on left mouse you will eventually adapt to it and it will feel "natural")

Well... You know how I hold my left hand? The long finger and the ring finger barely touch space (turn), and the rest of the hand just rests under the table (I should actually take a picture of this..). That feels so natural for me, and it's impossible for me to play elma if i hold the hand like I would have to to have Q as alo (thumb on space, rest of hand resting on keyboard and ring/long finger on Q). Also, having 0/ins as alo has got to be the most natural..at least it is for me: Alovolt turns the same way as ->, so the same button is used for those. You won't ever have to press -> and alovolt simultaneously.petsen wrote:arrows as controls and Q for alo,... isnt htat the easiest?
Well ,the most natural for me is to spread out my hands on the keyboard instead of crushing them together in the bottom right corner...
That's why hardcore FPSers use AWSD instead of arrows anyway... one hand to the right on the mouse and one hand to the left on the keyboard.
And there's more keys around AWSD then around the arrows.

Hmm I'd say the reason is it's ergonomically bad to use the arrows with the left hand.. It's hurtful for the wrist. Plus the deal with there being more hotkeys around of course.zworqy wrote:Well ,the most natural for me is to spread out my hands on the keyboard instead of crushing them together in the bottom right corner...

Omg didn't think anyone else did that. The rest of my hand is under the table though, not on ittijsjoris wrote:Svein, I know the feeling, it is so relaxt to turn that way.
I rest exactly those two fingers on the spacebar and the rest are just on the table.
(the keyboard is placed right on the corner of the table)
So your left palm is resting on your dick?SveinR wrote:Omg didn't think anyone else did that. The rest of my hand is under the table though, not on it

Alo on 0/ins
Space for turning and allways some long finger on Esc because I never make perfect runs so just Esc and Enter all the time
Bad habit though since I sometimes press Esc cuz I've gotten used to it

i don't understand why some do alovolt with left hand..
my alovolt is above right volt and right af gas and use same finger as i use for right volt. At my keyboard the end button is there<--toshiba laptop.
For esc i use the left alt button, where my middlefinger is placed and space for turn. Very rarely i press esc when i want to press space.

i remember once in a 1htt battle jaytea had been driving Zig-Zag for about 1:50,xx minutes when he did a cool brutal to get one apple and he was so excited by it that he accidentally pressed Esc to save the rec! i just heard a scream from the other room and it was really funny to watch the rec afterwards

Nah, you better start streching your finger so you can reach esc without making it to an extra movement. I guess I have a hand that's perfectly made for dashing the whole keyboard without moving any finger !psteve wrote:lol jaytea, i have z as brake and x as esc and i often press x instead of z, one time it was just as i made the flat track start really good. really annoying, but having x as esc has saved time overall really.
HAving x and z for such as alo/turn and esc seems bad.. quite töntigt if you have so
