Making new creature/alien invader internal pack

Post by Chris Penrose »

I started making an internal level pack which is kind of about weird creatures taking over the original elma internal levels. Please download this pack which includes the first 3 levels >> and tell me if this is a good / crap idea etc.

I will make it a contest and host it on my site once I get more feedback on the idea...

Yes, pretty funny I must admit. Just make enough those creatures so the levels are different enough. And don't make invisible polygons (In Warm Up there was I think).

I put that invisible polygon on warmup because I thought it was too hard for the first level without it, but those 3 levs have been modified since, and the polygon's not there for the finished pack.

Chuckles: I started with Apple harvest first, and still haven't finished. It's gonna be so cool.

Quite cool, but never, I repeat NEVER, add invicible polygons because you think something might be impossible
Was it cast for the mass who burn and toil?
Or for the vultures who thirst for blood and oil?

i HATE invisible polygons. 2bad some of the LOMs have them =/.. they're so pointless. why make a spot that u can't complete and then make invisible poly to get over it? just make stuff that is possible instead. most often i try some volting to get over the hard spot and hit my head on the polygon..

Like I said, I only made it because I thought the level would be too hard for a first level without it. Here's the finished version. >>

So true. Newbie level designers think some part is impossible and add some invisible helping polygons there but unfortunately only they know about them, most of the players will try some hard trick to pass the "impossible" part and die (to the invisible polygon most likely). If this annoying part is after 1 minutes playing it's 99% sure I won't ever again play the level.

Well In that case, I have to apologize on behalf of Mikey B, the [MK] lev designer, hes made quite a few levels with them. Recently though, hes realized they suck and he doesnt use them any more.

invisible, argh. if i f.ex. saw one invisible polygon/vertex somewhere when i rated top10 packs, that's immediately cancel/skip. (of course there are some VERY special cases, where it might be acceptable, but never when it's just put there to help difficult part)
