Desperado (1995): 8/10
Imdb's plot is the following: "A gunslinger is embroiled in a war with a local drug runner." Sounds like a serious movie; but it's not. Surely one of the most over the top (in a comedic yet not ridiculous fashion) action movie i've seen. Anthonio Banderas is simply great in his mariachi character. The movie score is also excellent, gets you right in the right mood. Action, humor, violence, some brief budity, great music, awesome film.

I agree!

this is kinda imdb movie rating topic, not for votelists anymore, right?

Antichrist (2009) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0870984/
Fucking incredible. I am speechless. No rating. No rating possible. A love or hate movie. I love it. But it is impossible to love. It is brilliant, brutal, beautiful.

I think I would like Antichrist too but sadly it hasn't come to theatres in Luleå ;(
http://uk.blu-ray.com/movies/Antichrist-Blu-ray/6479/ Maybe should go straight for this one.

http://uk.blu-ray.com/movies/Inglouriou ... -ray/6972/ A must-have too.

EDIT: Sex Drive Unrated - 6/10
Was ok, pretty likeable characters, funny, lol-funny at times, predictable (not that i expected anything else). Seth Green was awesome.

Ladri di biciclette - 5/10
That vote is in such a minority. I can see why this movie is rated so high if you analyze it the right way (post-WWII climate in Italy and father and son-interaction in the middle of it) but heck I just sat through 1h 29m watching a man and his son running around looking for a bike. Well, glad I've finally seen it, been wanting to do so ever since I heard about it the first time a few years ago. Anyone else seen teh? Would be nice to hear opinions from others.

I have seen Bicycle Thieves and because I am a filmmaker I have to love it. No, seriously, it is an old movie which is always hard to rate because storytelling was much different and slower back then, technical knowledge and equipment were less evolved etc. I think it is a great dramatic story, and just saying you had to watch a father and son look for a bike for the whole film is kinda plain in my opinion. There doesnt have to be a lot of plot (action) in a film to be exciting, moving, good.

Anyway, if I had to rate it would probably get a 7/10 or so, but considering the time and circumstances under which it was made the high ratings are very reasonable.

ok, my turn:

Pirates of the Carribean 3 (Worlds End or sth.):
1 Point for SFX, 1 point for Keira who is very pretty, 1 point for some cool ideas like the ship turned upside down...

= 3/10

Seriously, what a crap story.

Ye I was exaggerating, but nothing much happened really. It was quite slow paced and didn't keep me entertained. But like I said, I can understand why it has such a high rating.

The Producers (1968) - 6/10
well, the humour back in the 60's was quite different i guess, i couldn't laugh about most of the jokes. though there were some funny scenes and it was quite ok to watch. I've seen a modern version of 'the producers' in the theater one or two years ago and it was muuuuuch better.

just watched 'the usual suspects' but somehow I was too stupid for this movie, cause i really didn't get that ending when i watched it. had to read in the internet what the fuck was happening. o_O imo that twist is a bit far-fetched. dunno how to rate it. i guess some 7 or 8.

Comment: What do you get when you cross a blonde, hollywood-influenced semi-star with the role of Director? a chaotic, relatively pointless movie about roller derbies.

the main character (Ellen Page) kept swapping from being relatively pretty to mostly dog ugly, a real representation of how shit glasses can make one look, and the other characters were... shit.

The storyline/plotline was a characteristic hollywood-ized movie designed to suit the public, there was a teenager who starts to rebel, getting a boyfriend, running away from home and losing virginity etc. there was a breakup of friendship and romance somewhere in the middle, the friendship was then, predictably, magically fixed. There was a crisis to the storyline, overbearing parents and an underage idiot. oh wow.

Recommend: don't bother seeing this movie, it's a waste of time, the only good parts are watching the director and actor in the movie Drew Barrymore bash the shit through people. Still, considering the director, it still exceeded my expectations. Barely.

this is alot of some of my most favourite movies. there are more that i can't remember; maybe another day.
i recommend watching movies that i put in bold.

8 Mile: 8/10 (only gave this highesh score because i like eminem's music. i wouldn't recommend to non-eminem fans.)
Armageddon: 8.5/10 (this had quite alot of funny moments for a slightly serious movie. includes an all-star cast, and bruce willis always delivers a strong performance.)
Billy Madison: 7/10 (an old adam sandler movie. moderately funny. i can't say more.)
The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas: 6/10 (i had high hopes for this one, but turned out to be beneath my expectations. was still okay.)
Casualties of War: 9/10 (i loved this alot. michael j fox was brilliant in this film.)
Children of Men: 10/10 (just pure awesomness. an absolute must see!)
Conspiracy Theory: 8.5/10 (100% epic acting by mel gibson. perhaps the storyline got weak towards the last half hour. but mel's acting boosted my score.)
Independence Day: 10/10 (epic. will smith. jeff goldblum. aliens. explosions. INVASION!!! need i say more? just watch it!!!)
Dude, Where's My Car?: 9/10 (fucking funny as. kind of got stupid towards the very, very end, but the majority was really, really funny.)
Enemy of the State: 7.5/10 (it was so-so. very nice. didn't like it VERY much, but it was quite good entertainment.)
Happy Gilmore: 9.5/10 (classic. will never be forgotten. one of adam sandler's best movies, and quite lol.)
Iron Man: 10/10 (loved it!)
King Kong: 6/10 (meh...)
Payback: 7/10 (quite good for a '99 movie. never lost interest while watching this.)
Phone Booth: 8/10 (well the whole movie pretty much took place at a phone booth. but it really kept me on the edge of my seat.)
Porky's: 9/10 (probably one of the funniest 80's movie ever. it was way ahead of it's time in humour, and still funny to anyone who i show it to today.)
Scary Movie 3: 9/10 (this just had some very funny parts consistently.)
The Shawshank Redemption: 10/10 (pure awesome.)
Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny: 9/10 (this movie will turn your brain into shit. a must see!)
Titanic: 10/10 (epic love story with awesome effects. i almost cried at last scene.)
Transporter 3: 7/10 (same old transporter. wasn't much new compared to the previous movies. but like always had some nice fight scenes.)
Unleashed: 10/10 (the PERFECT mix of action and drama. this is the only jet li movie that i actually like because it's not constant fighting.)
Valkyrie: 9/10 (WW2 film with tom cruise. it is about the assassination plot of adolph hitler, so you know it's good.)
Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story: 8/10 (haha, i remember this. it was silly in a funny way.)
Weekend at Bernie's: 9/10 (this is actually unexpectedly a very funny movie for 1989. i was surprised at how much i actually loled irl.)

edit: just remembered some more tom hanks films:

Cast Away: 8/10 (never got bored of this. it is a very interesting movie, and somewhat educational.)
Forrest Gump: 10/10 (probably one of the best movies of all time!)

edit2:
indiana jones quadrilogy: 10/10 (best quadrilogy ever. very fun adventure movies with humour.)
die hard quadrilogy: 10/10 (best quadrilogy ever. very fun action movies with humour.)

...well, best equally i suppose :)

my opinion only of course: wow leeland, rated some highly crappy movies there.

to me, i find it very difficult to give any movie a 10/10.

10/10 means nothing but absolute perfection. sure there are awesome movies, but absolutely perfect? well of course, it's all a matter of opinion. I cant stand the retards on every single imdb forum whinging about the rankings. do they not realise that at the end of the day it's just the overall general publics opinions?

there are films that are close to perfection, one being Shawshank (which i watched for the 50th time last night). It's so highly rated because it has all the aspects of a great film, and the fact that it caters to such a wide audience.

i also watched Amelie (Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain) today. Was a nice movie indeed. i liked how all the very small details of life were explained. I found myself relating to the way she thinks fairly often, like having thoughts about how many people in the world would having sex right at this moment, among other things. It was very well shot too. the more i watched the more i liked her and thought she was quite cute. 8/10

All my 10/10's (or every single vote for that matter) are including viewing pleasure to some extent. I too would find it hard to put 10/10 if only rated the movies according to the movieproductions. My 10/10's are very good movies, like 8-9/10 but due to their stories, characters or something else they appeal a little extra to me which makes it hard to get enough of them. Like Inglourious Basterds, I have already seen it 2 times in theatres and I'm quite tempted to go see it a third time. Titanic, Matrix, Shawshank, Apollo 13... I've seen all of them multiple times and still think they're brilliant.

"Band of Brothers" (2001) 10
"Planet Earth" (2006) 10
9/11 (2002) (TV) 10
American Beauty (1999) 10
Apollo 13 (1995) 10
Forrest Gump (1994) 10
Hotaru no haka (1988) 10
Inglourious Basterds (2009) 10
Slumdog Millionaire (2008) 10
The Green Mile (1999) 10
The Matrix (1999) 10
The Shawshank Redemption (1994) 10

so don't go thinking i rate movies too high. i just have different likes :)

edit:

actually it goes like this for the matrix:
The Matrix: 6/10 (this one was quite average.)
The Matrix Reloaded: 9/10 (this one had the best fight scenes imo.)
The Matrix Revolutions: 7.5/10 (this lacked good fight scenes compared to the 2nd one.)

oh, so it's like that? i understand now.

i change my vote then.

The Matrix: 1/10
pretty shitty movie with bullshit impossible fighting, like something out of some gay chinese film. they wear stupid black clothes and glasses alot, which is just gay. and nearing the end when neo is on the rooftop and drops his guns, ad then goes into that 3d slow-mo shot, his guns are just magically gone. wtf. how can something that important go unnoticed. i suppose the wachowski brothers can just say, "it must have been a glitch in the matrix". but seriously, this sux. such a crap movie, and i don't want to see it again, because it's just plain bullshit. DON'T watch this! peace!

The Green Mile: 0/10
zero out of ten. that says it all.

pretty shitty movie with bullshit impossible fighting, like something out of some gay chinese film. they wear stupid black clothes and glasses alot, which is just gay. and nearing the end when neo is on the rooftop and drops his guns, ad then goes into that 3d slow-mo shot, his guns are just magically gone. wtf. how can something that important go unnoticed. i suppose the wachowski brothers can just say, "it must have been a glitch in the matrix". but seriously, this sux. such a crap movie, and i don't want to see it again, because it's just plain bullshit. DON'T watch this! peace!
According to moviemistakes.com, The Matrix had 151 mistakes, and Reloaded 141. That's not that much of a difference. And yes, I know you're only trolling, but still.

Ordered The Pianist on bluray for only some 8e, including delivery. Sick

OnT: Zombieland - 7/10
Not much of a horrormovie whatever IMDb says. Only one scare made me jump and yet I saw it coming a mile away :p Anyway it's a pretty nice comedy/horror.

Drag Me to Hell - 9/10
8.5/10 rounded to 9/10. Pretty intense movie, I was watching it on TV at 720p and with headset. Could hear even the tinyest sounds and it all made it come so much closer. It was a long time ago since I last sat on the edge of my seat like this. I could feel the hair on my arms and at the back of my head rise in some scenes. Seen the trailer over 20 times at work, and knew a decent amount of what to expect in some scenes but even so I shit my pants :D

Mrs. Ganush will haunt me tonight ;(

Precision: My ratings illustrate how i appreciated the movie, not a technical rating by any means.

Bolt (2008): 9/10
"The canine star of a fictional sci-fi/action show that believes his powers are real embarks on a cross country trek to save his co-star from a threat he believes is just as real." Yet again, a great animation movie by Disney. The main character, Bolt, is surely the cutest dog ever put in an animation film; he is fun, energetic, charismatic, cute and you can only love him. The hamster is mostly a great comedic relief eventhough he delievers great monologues and is by far the funniest character in the film. On a more visual aspect, the movie looks great; as you should expect from any animated movie made by Disney. As for every good animated film, some scenes are heart-breaking and you'll feel a soft tear building up in the corner of your eye, only to be swept away by the positive and inspiring atmosphere of the film.

A must see for any fan of animated movies.

Basic (2003): 7/10
"A DEA agent investigates the disappearance of a legendary Army ranger drill sergeant and several of his cadets during a training exercise gone severely awry." The movie revolves around Hardy (John Travolta) who is trying to find out what really happened during that training exercise. The movie is constructed with a series of flashback, it somehow reminded me of The Usual Suspects, which is a good thing. The film offers nothing too creative though it kept me watching until the end because i just had to know what the hell happened. Good stuff.

Dark Blue (2002): 7/10
"A robbery homicide investigation triggers a series of events that will cause a corrupt LAPD officer to question his tactics." This was a quite interesting movie. The movie really portrays the LAPD in a bad way. The movie is straight to the point, bad cop questions is methods and hopefully will set things straight. Kurt Russell is very good in his role of a corrup, agressive, cop and delievers a frankly good performance. A pretty good rental.

Year One (2009): 2/10
"Zed, a prehistoric would-be hunter, eats from a tree of forbidden fruit and is banished from his tribe." My brother rented it, i decided to give this movie a chance as i had heard some quite bad things about this movie. The movie started in a very unfunny fashion and just kept riding on this wave. The story was dumb, but many great comedies have dumb stories. The problem lies in the absolute non-sense of the story. Prehistoric men leave their tribe, then they meet Cain and Abel, then Abraham, then some Romans. There are no transitions between scenes, it just looks like an assembly of comedic sketches with no humor whatsoever. Jack Black doesn't really seem to try, he does not even seem to be playing a character. He is Jack Black in the prehistoric times.

Don't watch that, really not a good movie. And if you think otherwise, please let me understand what was funny about that movie.

Airplane! - 5/10
Hot Shots kind of humor, very much over the top and with a lot of puns. Funny but too much.

Beaufort - 8/10
An Israeli movie about Israeli forces in the old fortress of Beaufort in Lebanon, just prior to their withdrawal in 2000. The movie is about friendship, duty, disbelief and just shows their everyday life as soldiers. Though it's not a typical warmovie so if you're looking for some real adrenaline look elsewhere. What really got me curious about this movie was that it got 5/5 in Allt Om Film, a swedish movie magazine, like a year ago.
