Games with a similar scene to elma?

Im looking for some games with a similar scene to elma. Mainly a game with these things:

- A game that can be openly discussed.
- A game with an 'official' website linking to fan sites etc.

Im interested in getting involved with other scenes

halo and halo 2 have huge community, official site at http://www.bungie.net, but there are many non-official sites with improved stats etc

they also already have their own forum, but i suppose that won't stop you from making your own

i was just about to write turbosliders

it is actually a quite similiar game - simple and competing for times. it has a bonus though - built-in multiplayer 20 palyers at a time. no replays thou

ye and there are cars, no bikes

and it has no general forum. so wtf it ain't similiar

elma scene is a typical scene built around a simple but yet succesfull game. i'm not probably aware what you exactly mean by "intimate" in this case, but in the end many scenes built around successful game is "as intimate", at least in their opinion... but it's mostly matter of popularity anyway, elma scene can't grow really big because the game itself limits the growth, there is not enough variation. but smaller is better anyway

would you like elma scene to grow bigger? how much?

kinda off-topic though...

nope I wouldn't like the game to grow bigger at all. the thing that makes the scene great is that there more or less only is one scene (plus those national ones). thats also what i meant about intimate. I don't know any other games that has one major irc channel where ~everyone hangs and one major site where ~everything important happens. I mean any of the massmarketed games could never have a scene like this.

or am I just totally wrong cos the only thing I know about other scenes is my littlebrother and his interaction with the cs "scene" which is more like you know the ppl in your own clan and then some clans you are friends with and shit...?!

Well in bigger games (which usually have their own language too, k10x) that are in turn more competetive, the top players need to exhibit more skill and talent to become 'the best'. Necessarily, they must be superior at optimizing, quick thinking and so on. In my opinion, the really sharp and talented players are unlikely to spend enough time with any community, irc chatting etc. for them to be familiar with the majority of other players, as optimizing a single thing for a long time is an inefficient waste of time (the learning curve is not linear). They quit or move on. That is why you can be friends with the elma tops - there is so few of them plus they are stuck in a rut.
