Post all your useful(?) info about Winamp here. Have you upgraded to Winamp 3 yet, what's the coolest / best / worst skin and plugin etc.

I still use Winamp 2.X. Version 3 is still too buggy. The (only) skin I'm using is called "Metampmorphosis 2". It rocks. The only kind of plugins I use is sound enhancement ones. The one I'm currently using is called "Dee2". It has loads of settings, and it's totally free!

I use winamp3, default skin. I still have winamp2 though, also default skin.

I haven't really experienced any bugs with winamp3, but it takes a while to load, because it uses way more resources than winamp2. I've also found the sound on them to be slightly different, but I don't want to elaborate on that any more.

The only bad thing about winamp3 (except that it loads slowly) is that it doesn't show the total playing time of a playlist, as winamp2 did. But this is merely because it is still new, and they haven't made it perfect yet, they just wanted to bring it to public as soon as possible.

I dunno, I've gotten some strange errors with Winamp3 before. Could be just my computer however. I use 2.xx.

I use no plugins, no skins, nothing else. :)

http://www.i-adrian.home.ro/enhancer.htm

from here you can find a very good sound enhancer plugin for winamp 2 series.

it's absolutely marvellous, i cannot listen to "normal" sound without it anymore, even if i configure internal equalizer as good as i can, it doesn't get at all as good as this plugin can do. highly recommended.

ARG!

Are you still using Winamp, I stopped using that sucky program even before versin 2 was out...

You should delete your winamp and begin to use MusicMatch Jukebox instead.

You can get it from  www.musicmatch.com

well winamp has great sound, and that's pretty much only thing i want from it. i don't really enjoy "all-in-one" progs cuz they tend to have weak areas, i rather prefer having seperate best programs for each task

I'm using winamp 2.81, which I think is the best version. Some newer versions enqueues the songs you're double-clicking on, instead of playing them. I don't like that. I also have winamp3 at my fathers house, but I'm not used to it yet, maybe I will be..

Oh, forgot to mention, there is a tiny bug I've discovered with winamp3.
(Maybe I just ought to edit my post, but what the hell, who reads it a second time)

It seems to be having problems recognizing (with CDDB) the CD's I play, only once or twice has it come up with something other than "Unknown".

2.81 IS the best version
3.0 is somewhat sucky

That's an adjustable option. You must disable "enqueue as default action".

By the way, the BEST visualization plugin is eonic2
I really mean it. Only 1,1 MB.

Not bad, but Dee2 is MUCH better. Try it!

BTW, the internal equalizer isn't supposed to do very much... the changes in it has a higher "priority" than the plugins however, so changes in the equalizer changes the sound more than you might think.

I've got the answer to the winamp3 "Studio.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows" problem. Basically, (i'm assuming you're using default skin) you have to make sure that the bit at the bottom says "playlist xxx: xxx items", where Xs are numbers. sometimes for whatever reason this bit is greyed out, and trying to add files will make it crash. So if this is the case, click "playlist" and then "create new playlist" then start adding stuff.

one thing i just hate with winamp 2.xx is if you have shuffle enabled and the press play, in winamp3 a random new track will be played, but in winamp 2.xx the same tracks start over. that´s bad.

5 is alot lighter than 3, its compatible with most 2 stuff, like plugins and skins, can't really say bad things about it, and takes only 1% of my cpu usage. i like. Image

And the new included skin is actually usable!

Well, Winamp5 is good, but pretty bad when it comes to playing CDs. It takes some 5 secs to change between each track, and has to reload the CD when it does. Does anyone know a way to get around this?

Im afraid I cannot help you since I never listen to CDs.
Always rip em as mp3s.

But I do remember the times I still did that, I couldn't use Winamp then either, but that was because every time track switched, there was some small pause in elma.

That's why I downloaded some extremely light cd-player program which did the job just fine.

Well yes, I could of course use Windows's built-in one :)

But then I don't get the EQ

I found out my elma lags a bit if I have Winamp5 shown at the desktop, as I minimize it, the lag is gone. It's perfectly fine by me.
