this is historically not true AT ALL. you used to get shit on so bad as a new player coming to the scene, its changed now though maybe somewhere around 2010 forwards. it was good trial by fire though and many interesting personalities joined the scene while people with not so thick skin dropped out maybe. dunno if its good but id rather keep the interesting people than boring grey masses

I guess nowadays the main problem is that many new guys are suspected of being fakenickers. Which is both annoying and understandable.

Very sad update:
My main HDD crashed a few weeks ago. I lost a lot of data. Luckily I did thorough backups of my work related video data. For some stupid reason I did not do thorough backups of my private projects video data.

This means all data from FEM2015 is lost (everything that was in the preview, except veezay interview, which I recorded this year). Fuck me eternally, yes. I've sent the HDD to a recovery lab but after several weeks, a lot of €€€ and two exchanges of the read/write unit they told me it is impsy to recover. Right now they sent me the final confirmation, that's why I have waited with this information until now (besides briefly talking about it in whatsapp group).

I have the preview file in HD, but its pretty much useless, since compressed to h264 and more importantly silly layout music over almost all dialogue.

I don't even blame Seagate (3TB drive, dead after just over two years). I can only blame my stupidness.

This is a very severe fallback after I got a lot of new energy and inspiration from FEM16 and the comments and feedback for the preview.

Yet I try to be positive: Now I can start fresh, shoot more focused, with a clearer image in mind of what to achieve. I can understand that I lose a lot of trust form the elma community, this is the most unprofessional thing a filmmaker can do. Still I hope there will be some good spirit in your heads and we can carry on together.

Sorry to all people who got stoked about seeing the work in progress. I still believe in the project and will continue with it.

Not even mentioning losing respect, I think the one thing that every elman would like to do right now is give you a big proper bro hug and a pat on the back insguy!

As sla said, shit happens, and it's really really sad/annoying when something like this happens, but as you said yourself, the best you can do is put it behind you, say to yourself that it was all crap anyway, and freshen your way onto something much better =) Fingers crossed and good luck my friend!

Oh man. Yeah, I wish I could hug you right now... But it's good that you're trying to stay positive. Indeed, a second take might end up a lot better now that you've learned some things, thought about planning more, etc. It's all for the best, hopefully.

some ideas: start the film with some explaining why ppl even care about the game. some describing of the mechanichs and the flow of the game. you kinda have to sell elma to the audience for them to care. just see random ppl in the middle of nowhere doing something they don't understand might feel a bit too apart. also one thing to lift early on is the non-narrative part of elma that at least for me is one of the best parts about the game. there's no story, no 'lore', nothing. you can complete levs in ways unknown for the designer, which is a nice thing to creativity. hope you can get some new cool vids because the idea is good.

Progress: Shot an interview with AKB during his visit in Berlin. Also got some footage of him playing bass in a fancy bass shoppe.

This year I will come to FEM to continue/start over with the film. I am travelling with Ramone from Sweden via ferry and it will be very nice :) See you there!
